My friend was very surprised by Wada's portrayal in the live-action film, since in the manga he is quite sweet and understanding (with an underlying sense of frustration with Satomi).

Justice for Takoyaki King Wada.
Before I go on my (potentially) year-long hiatus again, I just wanted to briefly talk about something while I was re-watching and re-reading some stuff.
I dunno how many of you subscribe to the "Kyouji decided to punch the daylights out of Cocaine Alien because he specifically hit the passenger side of his car" headcanon, but I personally do. I think it adds a bit more nuance to Kyouji's decision to hold himself at a distance from Satomi at times (other than going to prison for said crime).
Because if you think about it, while Kyouji really loves his cars— he's probably more likely to shrug the crash off and deal with it through other means that doesn't draw attention to himself. This time, though, he went out of his way to beat up a guy in broad daylight.
The very same 39-year-old yakuza that lets stuff just happen to him up til now.
Anyway, I'm rambling too much. I just wanted to point out that the live-action movie has Cocaine Alien hit the driver's side, while the anime adaptation is the same as the manga.
Why? No clue. Why am I even bothering with this? Also no clue, but I just found it interesting. It does make it so there's a way for Kyouji to exit his car more easily (and slightly more believably). In the past my friend and I had a field day imagining how Kyouji managed to get out of his wreck of a vehicle without additional injuries.
hey ya’ll! (*´∀`)♪
just wanted to pop in and say I’m neither dead, nor, god forbid, fallen out of love with the Wayamaverse.
grad school is close to killing me, though, haha— I didn’t expect stuff to ramp up so fast, so I’ve only managed to just get merch here and there.
I’ve briefly considered running away like Junko did… (hope she has fun with hot yoga and the salon appts).
Anyway, just wanted to say how happy I am that the fandom has gotten a bit bigger since the anime release.
Peace! ✌︎('ω')✌︎
Maybe I’ll ramble again some time in the future. Or die from sentient paperwork, whatever comes first.
Recently domestic fluff KyoSato has been on my mind...
It's just so nice and peaceful to think about...
(*ノωノ)
Also I’m really sorry for just disappearing off the face of earth again. I swear I don’t mean to— lotta stuff happened and grad school is funny 🕺. But my passion for this series hasn’t waned one bit. I’m turbo slow but I’ll eventually get there (side-eyeing my backlog of half-finished drafts from when I was last on here 🥲).
Looking forward to the next chapter of Fami-Res that’s coming out soon.
A lot of people think it’s likely that Kyouji’s VA was changed from Nakamura to Ono (unless the TV anime PV just had weird audio quality).
Would be a shame if that is so, but I think Ono will be able to bring out a different sort of charm to the character and I’m okay with that.
Nakamura does really well with highlighting the “slyness” of Kyouji, while Ono would probably highlight his weird “boldness” more. But that’s just me.
I’m so happy that Karaoke Iko! and Captivated, by You are getting animated after anxiously waiting for the countdown.
I honestly thought Karaoke had less of a chance to get animated considering it already had a live-action adaptation. Onna no Sono no Hoshi was probably the most speculated one since the countdown used a lot of its volume colors (and it had an OVA previously)— but I’m excited either way 🥹.
They’ll be exhibiting on November 9th and 10th at this year’s Animate Girls Festival.
hii i just stumbled on your blog searching for more famiresu iko fans ! I love your posts and I was wondering how you would translate satomi's thoughts from chap 12 p 14 (after kyouji asks him what he wants him to be)? google trad's been no help for the part after him thinking he doesn't want kyouji to be yakuza anymore lol. no problem if you can't translate it of course. Have a great day!
My translation is gonna be hella rough since it might lose the nuances, but after Satomi considers asking Kyouji to quit the yakuza business:
• “Even if I have all the power in the universe to get Kyouji to abandon it/turn a new leaf”
• “He’s not someone I can take responsibility for…”
(Take it with a grain of salt, but this is the gist of it. Thank you for your question, and have a nice day.)
hiii! just stumbled into wayama recently and saw ur posts on famiresu iko ch 12! i was wondering, are u reading the jpn raws? since afaik the english translation is still only around ch9! have a good day 💗
Hi there, and welcome to the Wayama-verse, so to speak. ⸜(* ॑꒳ ॑* )⸝
I mostly follow Korean and Chinese scans/translations. KR scans tend to be out pretty much on release day (I’m able to sort of glean some context only through the art) and CN scans can be a bit delayed, but I’m able to understand it.
Have a great rest of the day. (*´∀`)♪
Have you noticed that Kyouji has been progressively stepping more and more into the light?
(This particular topic has probably been beaten and thrashed to death by this point, but it's my blog and I wanna talk about it, dammit. )
A rare disheveled AND tired Satomi.
Fun fact, Kyouji is kind of being an ass (debatable) for choosing to wait where he is in chapter 12 of Fami-res.
If you are attentive, you would notice he is waiting at Kamata Station, which is technically "right," because, well, they do meet somewhere around Kamata Station usually.
But, surprisingly, no, in the latest chapter he is waiting at the East Exit, and not the West Exit— as compared to their other meetings below.
(Chapter 2)
(Chapter 9— I know it's a reused background but bear with me.)
If you look up the actual IRL surroundings of the two exits, it's more obvious the location has changed.
(Area right outside of Kamata Station West Exit)
(Kamata Station East Exit— it's the one with Kamata Station in English right under the sign)
The reason why it's a dick move to wait on the East side of all places is if you look at the layout for the station:
It's just jammed right into traffic. 😭
I guess it's to really highlight the dynamic change between Satomi and Kyouji. It's their "final" meeting, and there's a karaoke contest, too, so it's a lot of looming over them.
Kyouji is dressed in his yakuza attire and is a bit more aloof than usual. Just a lot of "distance" even if they're still friendly.
It's always so jarring to see how tall Kyouji is compared to the other people around him (his torso is long, his shoulders are broad, and his legs are somehow even longer).
If I attempted to stand over two bags like he is doing here, it would probably barely even fit (lol).
😔Get yourself someone willing to use their legs to protect your food, ya'll.
Y'know, I might be reading too much into this piece since it's very likely made to be taken as a gag that references the overarching story in Karaoke Iko! (people going to Satomi for invaluable help/advice = going to see a "priceless" piece of art), but...
It's very sweet that Kyouji considers (the portrait of) Satomi to be as precious as the Mona Lisa, and willingly becomes a guard for him.
Kyouji's type is someone who is reliable (attentive + decisive), but Satomi is like the complete opposite of reliable (lol). Might be a lingering thing from when he was still basically couch surfing.
Although, I guess you can say that when Satomi has set his mind on something— he usually goes through with it.
