Yoru is silent for a long time, her hands firmly on the page. Blood leaks out through her fingertips. She’s trying not to think about how much this ghost looks like the stories she heard as a child, how she looks like the demons she used to be afraid of. When she still let herself be afraid.

When she speaks it comes out quietly, treading softly across thin and cracked ice.

“I don’t want to hurt anyone.”

She’s not good at talking, but maybe if she talks the ghost will realize what everyone else has and go away.

Her head stays in place but her eyes flick upwards. She’s spent her seven years at Hogwarts finding the secret corners and the cracks she can fall through, this particular windowsill being one of them. No one bothers to disturb her anymore. No one living, at least, but being pestered by ghosts isn’t new.

“I’m looking at the pictures.”

Maybe that will drive her away. The page is open to a section on evisceration, and the curse is playing on loop within the pages.
