If You’re Feeling Weary.
Lately... I've felt as tired as the last summer crops in the garden. Faded as the tomatoes. Lazy as the sound of late crickets, shifting registers as the night cools. Every year I wonder why I feel so weary during this season, and then I remember.... It's Long Summer.
The fifth season, or Long Summer as it's called in China, lasts the small handspan of time between the ending of August and the equinox of Fall. It is a time of the earth element. Of slowing down to embrace the quiet that comes with the last breath of heat, the calm that precedes the changing winds of Fall.
After a summer full of late nights and long days in the garden, seemingly endless output and fiery upheaval, Long Summer is a time to deeply shift the ways we've been operating. It's a moment to slow down. To stretch out like cats in this last patch of sunlight and soak in all the late nourishment of the season.
So if you've been feeling weary recently, embrace the invitation of this short season. Take a sacred pause for integration. Rest fully. Come back into balance. And find your footing again so you'll be rooted and ready for the winds of Autumn to begin.
