On a recent trip to Chicago, Kirby visits his favorite hatter and his favorite shirt-maker.Â
âFirst stop in Chicago: Optimo Hats. Best hatter in the United States, and one of the best in the world. A destination in and of itself.â
âBespoke shirt master class with Joe Hemrajani from MyTailor.com. In all my travels, one of the most knowledgeable shirt makers out there. A great example of how those whose primary business on the "internet" is in now way associated with low quality. Joe makes some of the best shirts, and at an incredible value.â
Our Workwear Sweaters are based on the durability and traditional style worn by MĂĄirtĂn Beag. His wife's knitting skills are apparent through the ornate patterns that resulted in a very durable sweater. Read more about the Workwear traditions on our blog:

We love Inis MeĂĄin Sweaters for many reasons: their traditional styles, their hardy durability and especially the history causing the brandâs inception.
Inis MeĂĄin Knitting Co. is as much a story about a small island's rich tradition in knitwear as it is about one man's resolve to save an island.Â
The middle island of the Aran chain, Inis MeĂĄin is often overlooked, receiving just a small fraction of the Aransâ tourism. Herein lies its charm. So undiscovered over the past century, the island and its customary way of life are incredibly well preserved. The islanders, unable to rely on tourism, must still support themselves by farming the islandâs rich soil, raising lamb and cattle that graze the islandâs abundant grassy fields, and fishing the treacherous seas that buffet the islandâs ancient limestone walls.Â

Anything made from G.J. Cleverley is a masterpiece at the pinnacle of craftsmanship. But their accessories cut from Russian Reindeer Hides  are truly exceptional for many reasons. The pre-revolutionary hides of unique look and resilient durability are so much more than beautiful they are rich in history.
A fierce storm brought down the Danish Brigantine "Christina" carrying leather and hemp December 10, 1786. Â The ship destined for Genoa sank off the coast of Plymouth, England where the hides would rest until 1973, nearly 200 years later, to be discovered by a group of amateur divers. Extraordinary luck and layers of sand preserved these leathers from deteriorating from salt water.
âThe way leather was worked by the Russian tanners was an art form,â Mr. Carnera of G.J. Cleverley said. âThey were laid in pits for a long period of time and tanned using only natural vegetable oils.â They had been cured in baths of rye or oat flour and yeast, hand embossed with a varied cross-hatching before being soaked in wood liquor, hand curried and then soaked in seal oil and birch tan oil. The result is a unique finish that cannot be replicated.
Cut from 200 year old Russian Reindeer leather, these are some of our favorite holiday gifts. Each rare and elegant accessory is handmade in London by G. J. Cleverley.Â

Because we carry a wide variety of brushes for shoe polishing, we often get questions on which brush to buy. For instance the Yak Hair Brush is a spectacular brush to add to your polishing line up but when would you want to use it? The density and properties of yak hair make for the perfect finishing brush. The Hanger Project Yak Hair Brushes are super dense and very soft. Because yak hairs are wavy, these brushes have to be made by hand.
Another question we often get is comparing one brush to another. Which is why we made the short video below comparing two of our best selling brushes. Both of these great brushes have an intended use. Which is also why one is not directly better or interchangeable for the other.
The Horsehair Polishing Brush is an essential brush that is great for the steps in-between the whole shoe shine process. It buffs shoes very well and is usually the first brush we recommend buying to start a shoe shine kit. For more information on the horsehair brushes click through to their blog post.
The Yak Hair Brush is the brush you want to finish a shoe shine and really bring out the shine of a pair of shoes. It is also a great brush for touching up a shined pair of shoes before and after wearing daily. The benefits are hard to realize without seeing the brush in action. Watch the video below to see the differences in these great brushes.

At the Hanger Project we believe that quality products speak for themselves. Which is why our Shoe Polishing Brushes are made of 100 percent tail horsehair. Ordinary brushes are composed of a mixture of both tail and mane hair. The mane hair is more brittle and will result in bristle loss through every day use. Nothing takes away from the ritual of cleaning your favorite pair of shoes than using a low quality brush that is makes a mess.
We are committed to providing the best quality for our customers, which is why all our brushes are the finest quality tail horsehair that almost don't bleed any bristles at all. See the difference in this great video:
The Simonnot Godard "Fil de Bouche" are premium hand-woven pocket squares that were crafted over 100 years ago. Available in extremely limited quantities, these beautiful pieces of craftsmanship have been kept in perfect condition and are masterpieces of an extinct French textile tradition.
Although Suede can be the very difficult to clean, using a waterproofing spray on a clean shoe will keep the suede from getting dirty in the first place. Using the Saphir Super Invulner waterproofing spray will provide a protective coat to a shoe almost instantly. Just spray liberal amounts to the outside of the suede, nubuck, or any other leather shoe and let dry. Now your shoe is covered with a protective, anti-stain treatment that will bead off liquids, preventing them from soaking in on contact.

How to clean dirty boots:
1: Wet and scrub the boots with Saphir Leather Cleaning Soap thoroughly shampooing the dirty area of the boots. We recommend using a large dauber and in a sink you donât mind getting dirty. The great thing about the Leather Cleaning Soap is that it will prevent the leather from dehydrating and is much gentler than saddle soap. This product is great for use on most if not all leathers.
2: Rinse off the soap thoroughly. It is fine for leather to get wet just be sure to pat the shoe down to remove excess moisture. Excess moisture will result is a undesirable water spots when dry. We also recommend you lay the boots down on their sides to dry, this way gravity will not affect the shape of the drying boots.
3: We waited over night for the boots to dry out completely. Once dry, use Saphir Nappa Balm and a dauber to condition the shoe. For style purposes, we chose to use Nappa because it is wax free meaning it wonât affect the texture of these great boots.
4: Since Cowboy boots are hardy and can go through all terrain, we wanted to condition the soles as well. Using the Neats Foot Oil for the bottom of a shoe will make the soles stronger and flexible for continual use, day in and day out.
5: Finally we used the Saphir Edge Dressing to enrich the color of the sole back to a robust shiny brown. We like to pay extra attention to the welt. After all, the attention to detail is what will end up standing out when finished.
Thatâs it! Check out our shoe guides for more recommendations.

If there is one shoe shine technique that stands out above the rest, it would have to be the mirror shine. Although achieving this awesome shine is a dedicated and sometimes lengthy process, doing this shine well will result in a luxurious finish that will last miles longer than your standard shine. Hereâs how:
1. Start building a foundation of pigmented wax to give the desired colored accent to your shoe. Apply small amounts of wax to the hard surfaced tip of the shoe. Let the wax dry. Then use a chamois and water to smooth out the wax and create shiny base layers. Repeat 3-4 times.
2. After the foundation is in place, use a dried out clear wax polish in the same way as before: apply sparingly to the tip, let dry, and use a damp chamois to smooth out the wax. This last step should be repeated at least 10 times to really make the shoe shine stand out. We recommend repeating this step until the pores of the shoe have completely been smoothed out.
Remember to always use a wax polish!
