Had to stop reading a fic where Ilya called Shane a coward (quote “I never knew how cowardly you were,”) upon learning Shane was suicidal. And it's just—🫩🫩. Ilya would never think that of anyone with suicidal ideations, let alone Shane. I get fanfics exist to explore characters outside of canon, it's just beyond irksome when someone fundamentally does not understand the character that they're writing about. The same Ilya who loves his mom so so much, who told Shane that he didn't want him to think his mother was weak, that Ilya, yeah he would never fix his mouth to say a suicidal person was cowardly. Someone tried to justify that line by arguing that Ilya was desperate to provoke a reaction from Shane and still no!!! He would never go so far to say that shit regardless of his desperation. The Ilya that I know just wouldn't. Ilya can be an asshole, he has his moments where he's not perfect, but he's not cruel.
