Ascension - Episode 1

I don't know much about the background of Ascension - I think it's a joint venture between CBC and SyFy? Anyway, the gist of the show is that in 1965 Earth sent a secret generational space ship to reach a new home, and the series picks up 50 years later (2015). My first impression is that it's Battlestar Galactica type story telling without the alien wars. Helps that Tricia Helfer is in it I suppose. So far I'm right. The first episode opens with the mysterious murder of Lorelei Wright. We're also introduced to a B plot on Earth that concerns the creator of the Ascension idea. Not sure how interesting that will be. I liked the way the show launched right into the story. Most of the background info / set up was accomplished very organically within the story. I like it a lot so far. Beautifully shot, too!
