Had a great time with MC YOGI, a former Hanna Boy, who came for a book reading and reception on November 17th. Students, faculty, staff and friends enjoyed meeting MC YOGI and sharing this special night together. Next time let's do yoga!

We are ever grateful that MC YOGI included Hanna Boys Center in the story of his Spiritual Graffiti journey and came home to read it out-loud in person to all of us. Like so many young men, his story includes a tale of overcoming adversity, second chances and finding true strength from within.

The sun is shining over Hanna and we are feeling blessed. Our boys came home this weekend! THANK YOU to the Alumni, families, friends, staff, board members who came to celebrate Hanna at our BBQ on Sunday, Sept 17th. We have many more pictures to post and stories to share about this special day, but we will start with this photo from Chapel with Father Greg and some of our Alumni, coming home.

We remember and honor all that America is and can be on 9/11. Here are two shining examples of that in our Hanna family: Hanna Alumni Jesse Linden from the Class of 2014 just graduated from Basic Military Training in Lackland, Texas. He is going to attend Tech School in Monterrey to train to be an airborne linguist with Mandarin as his target language. We couldn't be more proud of him as he heads off to protect our great nation.

Cameron Halkovich, from the Class of 2013 will be deploying for his next tour with the Marines. Cameron visited campus recently and reminded us, "It's amazing how much you miss Hanna when you're gone." We reminded him that he always has a home at Hanna.

Hanna recently received a generous donation of 28 Ambush Comp bicycle helmets from members of the Active 20-30 of Santa Rosa #50. The gift was facilitated by Brian D. Sosnowchik, President of the Santa Rosa Club, in partnership with NorCal Bike Sport

The Ambush Comp helmet is great for our students because it can be used for trail rides, enduro races, and anything in-between. It's extremely lightweight, ventilated, and comfortable - and of course safe. The boys also liked the style! We are so grateful for this generous and practical gift.

Don't miss the KRCB Health Connections Special: ACEs - Adverse Childhood Experiences. Hanna Executive Director Brian Farragher provides expert insight and commentary along with other trauma-informed care experts. In just 30 minutes, you can learn how stress and adversity affect brain development and genetics in traumatized youth, and hear what we can do in our communities to build resilience against the effects of trauma.

It's Friday so enjoy the success of some of our recently graduated seniors -- Yuerra moved into his dorm at Sacramento State! He got a visit from his Hanna "moms" Trish and Brooke who came to make sure he was settled in with all the necessities, including - you guessed it, laundry soap!

Next is former Development intern Kyle! Kyle stopped by our office to check in with our team after successfully completing the first three-week training section of his 14-month course curriculum at Universal Technical Institute. Diva our helper dog loved seeing him in his uniform looking ready for action.

These Hanna boys just left us in June and here they are already shining like stars due to their incredible strength and desire! Thank you to our generous supporters who help make their success possible.

August 21st was not only the ECLIPSE, it was Back to School Day for Archbishop Hanna High School, which first opened its doors to students in 1949.

Our day opened in the chapel with a morning prayer from Father Greg for all students, staff and teachers. Our special guest speaker, kicking off the school year, was Chairman of the Board, Tullus Miller. He helped explain the role of the Board, why he personally cares so much about Hanna Boys Center and challenged the boys to care about their own futures and be vested in what happens to them.

Next, we all joined together for a healthy morning breakfast in the cafeteria to prepare for a big day of learning. As always, staff and students joined together to enjoy the food and each other's company.

Then came the distribution of Back to School schedules and the start of school. Staff from all over Hanna gathered with students to celebrate their achievements and the new school year. Mr Bilberry, our Science Teacher, helped explain the science behind the day with a demonstration for all.

Even though we didn't get to see the eclipse through the cloud cover, it was another great day at Hanna!

Victory is sweet for Hanna student, Jordan, who applied for and received a full scholarship to Santa Rosa JC’s Summer Health Careers Institute. On Aug 17th, he passed his Health Careers course and will receive both high school and college credits.

Jordan has spent the last five weeks of his summer touring local medical facilities and job shadowing multiple positions in the health care field. As part of the program, Jordan and his classmates delivered simulated babies, practiced suturing on pig’s feet and even became CPR certified.

This is the definition of dedication and focus. Most definitely worthy of a yellow rose for victory. Great work Jordan! #Hannaproud

Our FFA students are at the Sonoma County Fair with their lovely lambs. Please show your support today and watch them in the ring. On Sat, Aug 5 the students will be selling their lambs at auction at 9:00 am. As always, thank you for supporting Hanna's Agricultural program. There is so much for our students to learn about caring for animals, responsibility and business skills in this life training program.

American fighting ISIS says he's on a mission for 'justice'

Hanna Alumnus Kevin Howard graduated from Hanna Boys Center in 2005 and joined the military in 2008. Hanna teacher Mario Alioto was thrilled today to see Kevin featured in this video and article on ABC News on a mission against ISIS as a volunteer fighter saving those in need.

"I think the future in not just the Middle East but any conflict zone ... you have to educate the local people," Kevin said. "I can kill 100 terrorists with these bullets, but with one book you can eradicate a whole city’s worth of terrorism."

Summer Sun and Sand Art

Fridays, summer sun and sand art and pastels. It's all part of the learning and therapy here at Hanna in July. Take a look at some students showcasing their work for us. They are learning about colors, textures, application of medium, and still art, in addition to having fun and taking pride in the results.

Destination Races 2017 Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon was a great success for the community! Hanna Boys Center had a wonderful time supporting this event as a major volunteer with our staff, supporters and our Boys. From handing out water to distributing lanyards, Hanna volunteers were found at the historic Sonoma square and on the course during the beautiful weekend. Our kids were so proud to support this incredible event.

Come attend an introduction workshop to Rainbowdance(R), an expressive therapy for kids age 2-7 created by Dicki Johnson Macy, founder of Boston Children’s Foundation. This is the arts therapy that is currently being used at Sonoma Charter School for K-3rd graders. This interactive workshop, led by Dicki Johnson Macy and Hanna Institute Assistant Director Nick Dalton,  will cover not only the science and research behind Rainbowdance, but will also include the experience of enjoying what it is to be a kid again!

Hanna Boys Center to host renowned UCSF physician, who believes childhood traumas can lead to disease

Dr. Bertram Lubin will be at the Hanna Boys Center in June to talk about how childhood traumas can lead to disease.

A nationally renowned  Bay Area physician, known for his impassioned belief that childhood poverty leads to   disease, is bringing that message to the Hanna Boys Center in Sonoma next month as part of an ongoing networking series.  

Bertram Lubin, associate dean of Children’s Health at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, will speak from 7:30-9 a.m. June 8 alongside Barbie Robinson, Sonoma County’s director of health services and Dayna Long, another physician from UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
