She is a mutant who was born in Maui, Hawaii and Loa possesses a molecular distortion power that allows her to move through solid matter by disabling binding forces. This causes the matter to crumble, or break down around as she passes through it. The markings on her body are physical signs of her mutation, and not tattoos.
This basically means she can ‘phase’ through stuff like Kitty Pryde but unlike Kitty whatever she phases though is destroyed or crumbles to dust. So think Kitty but very deadly powers that Loa doesnt like to use. She pretty much hangs around the x-men as a student or background character but she has some highlight moments and when she is with Namor it really shines in my opinion. Namor and Alice (Loa’s Grandmother):
The very next panel shows us Alice’s grown up son who bares a resemblance to Namor. It was first hinted that Loa may be Namor’s granddaughter in Namor: the First Mutant (2010) when her powers manifested as she went to save her father from a villian. Namor shows up to help and has a talk with her grandmother whom Namor knew way back dring WWII back when Alice and Betty Dean were friends.
Loa joins the X-Men and then Alice dies before ever revealing or confirming that Namor was indeed Loa’s grandfather. Loa is given her Grandmother’s Atlantean amulet which later allows her to breathe underwater. She helps rescue Namor from Hell and later in Fear Itself: the Deep (2011) she helps Namor when he loses his confidence after Attuma attacks Atlantis along with Doctor Strange.
I would really like more Loa and Namor moments but Marvel just let that very good and interesting plotline fade away and no other hints were given about them. So this is all just speculation that Loa is Namor’s granddaughter. She seems like she would make an awesome princess of Atlantis and she is always a cool character whenever she shows up.
