āYouād struggle to pour water out of a boot with the instructions on the heelā
God DAMN thats some Shakespearean shit right there
Lmao.
That is one eloquent-ass FB comment.Ā
Christian normativity in a nutshell.Ā
i'm jewish too but what did you mean by "how forgiveness works in judaism"? like forgive never forget kinda concept?
In Judaism, itās not the obligation of the person who is wronged to forgive. Forgiveness has to be earned by the person who commits the wrong. So if people treat Jews like shit, itās theirĀ responsibility to apologize to usĀ and try to make it up to us. Ā In other words, demanding forgiveness from the victim is notĀ acceptable in judaism. Itās their choice, not obligation, choice whether to forgive or not.
agnellina:
And there are some things that you cannot ask forgiveness for within Judaism specifically because the person who has been wronged cannot grant forgiveness.
The examples I most commonly see are: 1. murder, because, you know, itās a little difficult for a dead person to accept anything let alone forgiveness and 2. in some interpretations, unjustifiably spreading gossip because, to paraphrase my grandmother, once words pass your lips, they no longer belong to you. I suppose itās possible with gossip (whether true or false) that you COULD find everyone who has heard it and tell them that you were incorrect or that it was unjustifiable. But in most cases, itās really impossible to truly know how far your words have travelled once theyāve been heard by others and by that point whatever damage to the person has already occurred and canāt really be remedied.
I never really thought about this as a Jewish thing, but it actually means a lot to me to know that my response to having been harassed online is potentially in this category. Iāve been told countless times that I should forgive my harasser, but I wonāt, not just because he has never tried to rectify any of the harm he caused me or actually asked for forgiveness, but because I donāt think I get anything out of forgiving him. It wonāt changed what has happened or make me feel any better about it.
Rodeph Shalom Synagogue in Philadelphia
Built in 1927, Rodeph Shalom Synagogue is an outstanding example of the Byzantine style of architecture. Both the exterior and interior walls are covered with painted and carved geometric designs executed by the DāAscenzo Studios⦠An earlier version of Rodeph Shalom was designed by Frank Furness in 1866.Ā
I've been reading a bit about "Messianic Judaism" or this movement called "Jews for Jesus" and obviously from what I read, it's sounds nothing less than Christians trying to sugarcoat Judaism -- at least that's the impression I get, but I don't wanna jump to conclusions, so I just wanna ask those with more knowledge, how are they generally viewed by Jews and what should a Non-Jew do? - With gratitude, a Muslim follower. uvu
Thanks for the ask.Messianic Judaism is not Judaism. Jews for Jesus arenāt Jews. They are, in fact, an evangelical movement that exists to trick Jews into converting to Christianity while still believing that they are Jews. Theyāre insidious, grotesque and detestable. While I have sympathy for children raised as Messianic Jews who donāt know that they arenāt practicing Judaism and are in for a rude awakening one day, adults who do this knowingly and willingly make me rather furious. Itās one thing to proselytize honestly, itās another to use insidious deceit. As far as Iām concerned, they deserve nothing but contempt.
They literally have made, as a direct statement, that ālying for Jesus is not a sin.ā
Can you possibly source that? I donāt doubt it but i have the urge for pain rn
Unfortunately not.Ā It was told to me face to face by one of them after I ripped his points to shreds.Ā
Egypt: The White Desert, Farafra
I fell in love with a mermaid
Why Iām Going To āŖ#āSelmaā¬
Long ago, I dedicated myself to a life of serving Judaism and the Jewish people. I believe in the power of Judaism to make a difference in our lives and to make a great contribution to civilization. I am always aware, however, of the hate that fuels those people who attack Jews simply for being Jews. Nine years ago, the Jewish Federation in Seattle was attacked and Pamela Waechter was murdered for being a Jew. Since then, I have met people who donāt remember that attack or other attacks on Jews. I worry a lot about people who fail to notice the existence of targeted hatred against Jews and the anti-Semitism that fuels the hatred of Israel. My own experience with other peopleās failure to take anti-Semitism seriously leads me to notice my own response to hate acts against other minorities
Recently, I read Ta-Nehisi Coateās Between the World and Me. While I did not agree with every idea shared by this gifted writer, his book opened my eyes wider to persistent injustices against African American citizens. I thought that I was aware of institutionalized racism, but there is much I failed to notice, or I looked the other way before I read this book. I suspect that many of us do avert our eyes, because to see it is to have to respond to it. It is easier for all of us to look away.
This weekend, the NAACP is organizing a march through the South. Iām going to stand on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma this weekend and then march to a rally for economic justice in Montgomery this Monday, because, as a Jew, I believe it is my responsibility to remember when we were slaves in Egypt. It is my duty to work to end hatred against Jews, African Americans and all others who are targeted. I am delighted that Rabbi Jason Rodich, whose Emanu-El portfolio includes social justice work for the congregation, and his husband, Fran, will join me this weekend to represent Emanu-El at the March. We will be joined by other rabbis and clergy from around the country. I pray that this coming together will lead to greater awareness, justice and peace and that we Jews can and will recognize and respond to hate against others because we know just what that feels like.

Iām back. Ā Sort of. Ā I wonāt be making any personal posts, but am going to open my inbox (off anon) for people who might want to ask questions about conversion or w/e. Ā I canāt pretend to be an expert on everything, but Iād like to be a resource. Ā If I donāt have the spoons, I wonāt log in. Ā I know that the risk of being harassed by White supermacists and antisemites is always going to be here.

Other findings of new report: 50% of Jewish students unaware of anti-Israel boycott movement; connection to Israel up after Gaza war
Of the three-quarters of students who reported hearing anti-Semitic comments, the most commonly heard statements were that Jews have too much power (52%), that Israelis behave ālike Nazisā toward Palestinians (44%) and that the Holocaust was a myth or exaggerated (37%).
Jews are not unique in feeling discomfort on campuses, said Sasson, who referenced recent racially instigated incidents. What is different, however, is that āthe protection of Jewish students from harassment is not on the radarā of university administrations.
In addition, visibly Jewish students are routinely cornered and harassed by campus missionaries of various kids. Ā (Source: personally been followed around by Mormons and Evangelical Christians even and sometimes especially after requesting to be left alone.) Ā My campus was also visited by theĀ āGenocide Awarenessā project, a few years ago, which is an anti-choice group comparing the Holocaust, Armenian genocide, slavery and lynching, etc. to abortion. Ā This was permitted because the group was invited by a Christian student organization.
Denmark be like āI know nothing about these religions and feel the need to shove my head up my ass and say Iām protecting animal rights when Iām actually just violating right to religious freedom!ā
Oh my godā¦..theyāre such idiots. How do people this dumb pass laws?????????????????? Halal slaughter is literally designed to minimize the animalās painā¦..this is so islamophobic and antisemitic.
āAnimal rights come before religionā
More like,Ā āExcluding, alienating, and attempting to drive out the religious Other comes before animal welfare (and common sense)ā.Ā
The law doesnāt just ban kosher/halal slaughter, it mandates that animal slaughter happen in the most inefficient, painful way possible.
⦠Because āugh those gross foreign Jews and Muslims ew.ā
How many bets they do NOTHING about conventional slaughter, which has been proven to be less humane than kosher or halal? How many bets?
No bet.Ā I got chased off of a forum I used to moderate by a Swedish animal rights activist, who called Jews āviolent savagesā and āatavistic barbariansā and other, less kind things.
