I work with delayed children.

I work with babies who aren’t “typical.”

I spend my day with babies who are on the autism spectrum, babies with Down syndrome, babies with cerebral palsy, and babies who are a year old but since they were born at 23 weeks they function as a 7 month-old.

I have babies on my caseload who were born at 23, 24, and 25 weeks gestation.

I have babies on my caseload whose parents grieved them when they were born because they are atypical.

I have seen it all in my field- all the disabilities, impairments, delays- and I have not ONCE met a child who is unhappy.

Stop saying it’s humane to abort atypical babies due to a condition discovered before birth. I am SICK of our ableist culture pretending to praise and admire people with disabilities who have successful lives while saying we should kill babies with the exact same disabilities to “spare them.”

I am so sick and angry with our world. Jesus, help us.

One of the atheist’s objections to Christianity (in religion in general, really) is that there is only one kind of math and one kind science but there seem to be a whole range of different kind of religions. But the existence of a fake check doesn’t negate the existence of the bank, if anything it is a clue that there is a real one (I can’t remember/find the original quote this came if someone can send it to me that will be great). Likewise, if religion can be forged, there exist something to be distorted into a lie. The various different religions around the world is proof of how every human being is spiritual in nature. 

I see the same argument from agnostics: the number of different Christian denominations doesn’t seem to make a compelling case for Christianity since its members can’t even agree in the true religion. Well, the thing is, people’s free-will get in the way, people are fallible so they’re bound to misunderstand the tenets of each other’s denominations and even how they argue with each other. But the truth is out there.

And even then, the sciences continually change and are influenced by new discoveries or current social pressures and conventions. There may be “one kind of science” but there are imperfect and even immoral people speaking with authority on it. It’s just how the world is regardless of what subject you are speaking on.

Disability can happen at any time, sweetheart!

Your perfectly healthy, abled kid can be in a car accident that paralyzes them from the neck down

Your lovely neurotypical toddler can contract a rare disease that leaves them with irreparable brain damage

Your child can lose motor skills from a sports head injury

Your child can become deaf or blind from an illness, an injury or a recessive gene

Your child can suffer an accident that costs them a limb

Your child can develop a brain tumor or a heart problem or a myriad of issues that will disable them long after they are born a healthy, abled, neurotypical baby.

Just because your child was not born disabled does not mean they cannot become disabled.

If you would abort a fetus because you don’t want to deal with a disabled kid, you shouldn’t be having kids at all.
