"The World Turned Against Me' Not that I ever thought that it was on my side in the first place. I never really expected the world to open all of its doors to me and welcome me like the prodigal son. I never expected the fatted calf or the coat of many colors. When I was at my deepest place, in the darkest hole of my life, It never dawned on me to expect someone to reach down with an open palm and pull me up into the sun. I didn't wallow in that dark place for long. At least I never thought I did. It was a place of self- introspection for me. But even that was a dark place, at first. I couldn't find my way up. I cringed from the glaring brightness of the sun, because the dark was cool and collective and it was a beautiful distraction. Like a magnificent man made drug. But it was also a placd where my thoughts landed. All of the demeaning, deranged, derogatory and self deprecating thoughts that held me down. Yeah, I did it to myself. But I did it thinking, I'd think, do and say all those things about myself before someone else could. I would say and think and do all those horrible, self defeating thoughts about myself and then, I would grow this thick, inabsorbent skin and know one could hurt me. No matter what they would say or do or wrote. No side eye. No neck jerk. No shade, No finger. Damn that all judgemental finger. No one could shame me. Ever. So even if the world turns against me, and I'm not saying it does, because the world is a breathing, living sentient being. It has no soul. It cares not for my well being and has no expectations of me helping it along the way. But thats just the way we get along. I leave it alone and it lets me stay here. Everytime I get a notion to uplift myself. It says, "I'll be that cushion when you fall or that bounce when you succeed. I'll never get in your way. You do that enough. Ill never be more than what I am. But you. You can be so much more."
