I feel like an alien

I am not but there seems to be a consensus that the sharp upturn of my eyes make me different

otherworldly

I am your neighbor

I cry like you and laugh like you and love like you and hate like you

I am not someone strange, I am your neighbor

as you pull your eyes into slits and taunt me,

do you see me

windows to soul

so i've been told eyes are the windows to the soul

look into my eyes, tell me what you see

do you see the exhaustion from years of listening to you laugh yourself to death while you make dog jokes and pull your eyes into slits?

do you see the resentment towards you, the blonde hair doe-eyed girl, gorgeous, kind and clearly God's favorite, who has everything I could ever want in life. I resent you for making me feel less than myself and i don't even know you

do you see legacy; the sharp upturn of my eyes are as real and tangible and inherited as this jade bangle on my wrist and the black silk of my hair and this tongue in my mouth which allows me to say words the same way as my mother

do you see the desire to be seen, recognized, loved for more than my eyes

i am no alien from outer space, some mystical creature beyond belivion. I am just an Asian girl with eyes
