As your brother [ gn! reader ]
He's extremely proud of your accomplishments but owing to his sharp, sarcastic tongue, he can't put his feelings into words. Usually, he seems pretty aloof and dismissive but if you look closer, there is a gentle look in his eyes and a small smile on his lips when he's with you.
He's a protective brother. If he ever learns that you've got a crush, he'll meticulously gather information about that person to make sure you'll be safe and happy with them. He has higher standards for your partner than you do.
If you show interest in learning something in particular, he gets you proper guides to help you with it. Despite the grumpy face he usually dons when visiting you, he shows genuine interest to know more about you and your health; if you're enjoying learning and if there's something you need.
He doesn't particularly like when you hang out with Masamune. He knows that you'll not come to any harm but he'll prefer you to not take after his wild instincts. When Mitsunari walks into a wall and apologises to it, he points the sight to you and tell you not to be too scatterbrained. It's all warm banter.
If you're free spirited and have a knack for getting in trouble, Ieyasu just sighs and tries to have a conversation with you himself. It's not easy for him by any means because he has difficulty being honest. Understand that he's harsh because he loves you. He practises his speech in front of the mirror before telling you to keep it moderate... Just don't make enemies or break your bones or jump in a river with crocodiles in it for the fun of it. Otherwise, you're the only energetic person he wholeheartedly enjoys being with.
As a father
He can't keep his composure when he holds his baby for the first time. Tears roll down his cheeks as he vows to become strong enough to protect his child. Maybe... just maybe he's been struggling for so long to see that exact moment. The feeling of their soft hands wrapping around one of his calloused fingers makes him forget himself. He keeps finishing his work as soon as possible to come and look at them. Even though there are nannies, he likes to quiten them if they cry.
Once, a patient told him that babies like when adults play peek-a-boo with them or make funny faces. So, when he's alone, he tries to stick his tongue out or pout to see if the baby reacts. He blinks when he successfully makes them laugh for the first time. Despite being caught a few times, he doesn't stop. Everyone has decided not to ruin his bonding time with his child so they never bring it up either.
He doesn't want his child to be lonely and feel as helpless as he did once. They can pave their own path in life with his support. They don't have to succeed him as the clan head if they don't want to. He wants them to have the choice he never did.
His child will be spoiled most of the time - with just the right amount of discipline because Ieyasu a good mix of both is important. Their reasonable demands are satisfied. The importance of hard work is taught to them at a very young age.
