STARTTLS
We have now added support for starttls to harakirimails servers.
So SMTP traffic from supported servers will be encrypted :)

Harakirimail iOS 1.1, just submitted to apple :)
SPDY
We have just enabled spdy on Harakirimail :)
For those who wonder, spdy is a protocol developed by google to speed up the delivery of web content.
So if you are using a browser that supports spdy, Harakirimail should now be even faster! ;)
more info here:
http://www.chromium.org/spdy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPDY
and of course you should listen to Security now (our favorite podcast) where Steve Gibson explains spdy:

Gigazined aka slashdotted A few days ago harakirimail was featured on gigazine. And our traffic increased 17x.
The two first images are from google analyctics and our network traffic. The other two images is our memory and CPU usage.
Our node.js based stack didn’t even break a sweat. although we had some errors, that was not nodes fault, but rather our sloppy coding.
Node.js = awesome ;)
Today we made some changes to our servers, we now serve all our static content through nginx (and node node.js). And at first we saw a huuuge improvement in pingdom. We dropped from 350 to 54ms. However we celebrated a bit early, as it turns out pingdom rotates from where they check servers. So the 54 ms ping was from the US (where our servers are). So after a few pings from around the world our avrage went up to the same level as before... However we still think it was a good idea to offload the static content to nginx, even if we did not see a huge improvement in latency. I leaves more node.js power to do harakirimail stuff and lets nginx do what it's good at :)
(you can check out our status page here: http://status.harakirimail.com/)
So we just launched our iOS client for Harakirimail. You can get it here:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/harakirimail/id633675820
Something we added was a custom url scheme. So what does this mean? Well it means that you can enter a special url: harakirimail://inbox/myinbox and if you have the app installed it will open that inbox. So instead of typing http:// you use harakirimail://.
This means that other apps (or websites or you can try it yourself by typing in a harakirimail:// address in safari on your iOS device) can launch our app by linking to harakirimail://, or go to a inbox by opening harakirimail://inbox/<inboxname>.
We have implemented this on https://harakirmail.com using the apple-itunes-app meta Tag or smart app banner. Basicly it is a tag we have in our html. And if you visit harakirimail it will show a banner at the top asking if you want to download the app or open it if you have the app already installed. And if you visit a inbox on the website on an iOS device it will ask you if you want to open the app and if you do. The inbox you visited on the website will be opened in the app, neat huh :)
(read more here: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/AppleApplications/Reference/SafariWebContent/PromotingAppswithAppBanners/PromotingAppswithAppBanners.html)
For the moment we support two paths:
Open a specific inbox in the app:
harakirimail://inbox/<inboxname>
ex: harakirimail://inbox/myinbox
Open a specific email in the app:
harakirimail://email/<email-id>
ex: harakirimail://email/51ab87a42f9f80af680023b2
In the future we will add more paths as we update the service.
Cheers!
/Harakirimail team

Firefox VS Chrome
Here's some intresting numbers, the majority of visitors to harakirimail are using chrome (on windows). There are 3x as many chrome visitors to the website than firefox visitors. But our chrome extension has less than half as many users as the firefox extension (and the firefox extensions has been out for two days). Interesting :)

Harakirimail for firefox is now available for download in the firefox addon gallery.
Your app status is Waiting For Review
We just submitted the harakirimail ios app for review. So if everything goes well you should be able download it from the app store soon :)
SSL Labs report on harakirimail.com
ssllabs.com report on harakirimail.com.
Test your own ssl site here: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest
You can now use harakirimail.se as the domain when you use harakirimail. So both [email protected] and [email protected] now works :)
Firefox extension v0.2
Now the extension works just like the chrome version :) Right click and insert a random harakirimail address. Opens in a background tab. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/harakirimail/
Firefox extension! (alpha)
We have just released a firefox extension for harakirimail. It can generate random harakirmail addresses. But does not yet open the inbox automatically. Check it out here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/harakirimail/
