Can
What is your opinion and /or experience with drug use and serious commitment in a relationship? Is it possible? Can there be a future?
I have absolutely NO IDEA why anyone would believe that I would have the wisdom to answer such a profound question, especially one that likely impacts most of our lives. Yet here the question is, in my inbox, alongside other not-so-important queries like "you seem to be a bright person, how did you get so fucked up?" "How much heroin should I try for the first time?" "I know exactly who you are IRL!" "What religion do you identify with? " "Please post a picture of yourself." I don't think I have the key, but I do have an opinion nonetheless.
🗝 I have come to the conclusion that there is no possible way to maintain a stable healthy relationship that is equipped with the tools that allow it to last, stay strong, continuously evolve, while remaining committed to one another when one or both parties are actively abusing drugs. Seriously, people are unable to be honest with themselves about their use, how can honesty spill over into a couples dynamic. It can't. Not to forget, we are talking about drug abuse and nobody in that situation is in a frame of mind conducive to establishing a true partnership where both parties work together toward a mutually beneficial goal. Even when the goal is scoring dope and a partnership can be beneficial in accomplishing the task, but when two people who are working together are also competing, two is usually one too many when it comes to dope.
🗝 Think about this. While many people will claim to have experienced success, it is always on a short term basis. EVERYTHING is possible within limited time spans. One user, one clean always devolves into two using or evolves into both clean. Only in the latter scenario will the relationship be capable of progressing into anything serious. People whose minds are not fogged or preoccupied with drugs have difficulty with this, for users it is next to impossible. Even when a couple makes it out and are clean together, more often than not, the relationship ends as that support system becomes a reminder of a time better off forgotten.
🗝 Only the strongest and most committed of individuals will ever remain together. While this applies to EVERYONE, when drugs are thrown into the most complex of interactions among individuals the results are devastating, disastrous, and almost always spell certain doom.
