JKR was just silly to cling to the plot as she originally invented it. Think about it, if Tolkien had clung to his original plot, we’d never seen Faramir. Or, if George R.R. Martin had clung to his original plot, we’d have a love triangle between Jon, Arya and Tyrion (eww…).
