Guys obsessed with IQ who make crackpot theories of everything should get into TTRPGs. Go ahead and design a world buddy. And yah gotta be nice to people to get them to try it. That's better, little guy.
Still thinking about how in a book called Three Body Problem there is a big reveal that a mystery is solved by a three body problem.
A nightmare device for spooky season: Grocery store brand bagged salad, batteries included.
[as it's getting darker] damn this dawn is gonna be so lit
A nightmare device for spooky season: Bidet, Jedi mode.
A nightmare device for spooky season: Box set of Rambo DVDs. If you use the chapter select it inserts those events into your real past.
A nightmare device for spooky season: Plastic skeleton that does a little dance. But instead of a motion sensor it dances when it detects when your cancer risk has gone up by .1%.

Morning Routine
Yeah, it was right after the promotion that I decided to start waking up earlier. My work hours hadnāt changed. At least, not on paper. Not that any of my duties were written down. I didnāt get to my level by filling out a checklist. I drove solutions. I moved the world. Seriously. If I had to grab the whole damn earth and shove it two feet to the left because thatās what my client needs, thatāsā¦
Does the cat come to me because I lie on the couch, or do I come to the couch because the cat will lie on me? Is there free will or only Cat?
RPG Idea: Make a Blades in the Dark hack to play in a faster, one shot style version of Delta Green!
Blades in the Dark, famous for its heists and capable, resilient characters, has a lot of parallels to Delta Green. Thatās a Call of Cthulhu spinoff famous for its scheming elite operatives and madness rules. If you made up a setting document for the modern USA instead of Doskvol, you could do all kinds of spooky missions and cult infiltrations!
Other considerations: the Attune skill would be less āinteract with ambient magicā since magic isnāt natural in our world. But I do think it makes sense that anti-mythos agents could have training to (for example) resist possession, or threaten a vampire, or anything like that which they might do.
Itās a different play style from Delta Green, but I like the idea of combining the mystery/horror genre with the high-speed action of Blades. Gaining stress in the presence of the otherworldly things you fight, or resisting consequences by gaining madness, would be right in the spirit of both games. And with a large but secret organization, you have access to the resource management side and any alternate agents you want to play while others heal!
One inspiration I've taken from Blades while playing DG is the flashback. I think in every ttrpg you do some amount of "retcon" to keep things fun, but DG has currency for making that part of the story: bond score. For minor things you might just do willpower ("you stayed out late to meet a dealer") but for serious items or intel you can do just about anything by sacrificing your home life. You neglected your sick mother to go to an antique auction in Hungary. You rented a bulldozer as a business expense but you're a psychiatrist...
Normalize this response
It'd be in the truest spirit of Lovecraft's style that if you're writing homage fiction, include eldritch beings from other unrelated works of fiction in the lists of blasphemous names.
"She began to speak, calling upon the epithets of the outer gods, harsh sounds not meant for the human tongue. Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, Yog-Sothoth, Azathoth, Shuma-Gorath, Hastur, Ungoliant, Tzeench, Slannesh, Pah-Wraith, Redjac, Ideon, Qull of the Five Inversions, Mxyzptlk, Dormammu, Lavos, Jenova, Zeromus, Kyuubey, Xeelee, Ghidorah, Ogdru Jahad, Vorlon, Dagoth Ur, Hermaeus Mora, Sheogorath, Abeloth, Waru, Mnngal-Mnngal, Zonama Sekot, Phaaze, Unicron, W'rkncacnter."
