On Sunday, at Aniplex Online Fest 2023, Aniplex revealed a new teaser trailer for Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: -Walpurgisnacht Rising- (Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten).
The trailer revealed that the anime film, which continues the Puella Magi Madoka Magica main timeline after the events of the 2013 film Rebellion, will debut theatrically in Japan in Winter 2024.
Aniplex also revealed a new key visual for the film and announced that director Yukihiro Miyamoto, who directed the original 2011 television anime series, its two film adaptation, Rebellion, and spin-off Magia Record is returning for Walpurgisnacht: Rising at SHAFT.
He is joined by the previously revealed staff, including the original creators Magica Quartet, chief director Akiyuki Simbou, writer Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), and character designer Aokiume. Additional returning staff includes character animation designer Junichiro Taniguchi, who served as Chief Animation Director on previous projects, parallel world designer Gekidan InuCurry (Doroinu), who created the iconic, unique looks of the Witches Labyrinths, and composer Yuki Kajiura.
All of the original Japanese main voice cast from the series and Rebellion are set to reprise their roles:

The anime was originally announced back in 2021, but in 2019 at Anime Expo, Homura's voice actress, Chiwa Saito, foreshadowed the sequel, saying that "the actual series has not ended yet" and that she was looking forward to everyone seeing Devil Homura, a reference to the ending of Rebellion, again.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica aired in 2011 to critical and audience acclaim. It became a cultural phenomenon and spawned two movie adaptations, Beginnings and Eternal, the sequel film Rebellion, and multiple manga and video game spin-offs. It is credited with popularizing mixing dark, postmodern tropes with the magical girl genre.
The newest Arknights music video is called "Beautiful & Lovely" and primarily depicts Franka and Liskarm standing next to each other the whole time. Wow I wonder what this is supposed to imply about them and their relationship.
Holy shit HDWR 105 is sooooo good. I love how much care and detail Tamifull put into miwa and tamaki's breakup. The pacing of the conversation and the varying degrees of acceptance/denial felt so real. And the crying panels!!! Ahhh this continues to be my favorite ongoing yuri
Imogen spent a week not sure if Laudna was alive, watching all the friends she was with get into relationships or hook up, so yeah she kissed her first chance she got. You fucking bet this unhinged horse girl sorcerer wasn’t missing her shot with spooky beautiful who she’s been pining for at least for months probably for years. Perfection, no notes.
Meanwhile Laudna has gone through death and destruction and relapsing with a necromancer and thinking Imogen was dead and suddenly everyone is back and shes angry and hurt and scared and Imogen wants to kiss her? She’s at her worst and Imogen wants to kiss her, and maybe has wanted to kiss her? Uhhh, alright!!!! Yes!!! and then immediately backtracking and saying wait no Imogen, i let the necromancer back in I’m a bad person and Imogen immediately comforting her and launda kissing her again. Perfection, no notes.

This might be my favorite volume yet because despite all the ups and downs they've been through, we get to see Miwa and Saeko have a really good, stable friendship. The cooking/snowball fight scene was so adorable 🥺 This "commentary track" seems to imply more heavily than others that they'll end up together, but for now I'm really enjoying the depiction of lesbian platonic intimacy.
The emotional consequences of Saeko's horrible middle school years were hard to read. Yuria taking care of her was really sweet. Yuria is a good girlfriend, though it's troubling that Saeko just wanted a head pat and didn't seem to talk to Yuria?? 😔 The trouble over their future in the currently serializing chapters was already brewing here. I think it's gonna come to a head soon, maybe as early as ch 105. I am worried for Saeko :(((
Saeko's mom coming to understand that her daughter will never be what she wanted, but rather will forge her own life for herself was I think a very real portrait of what good, supportive cishet parents of queer children have to struggle with. If only more came to the same conclusion...but I'm glad Saeko has her mom, and I'm glad this story has a parent who really wants to support their child.
AHHHHH!!!!!! miwa did it!!!! I know tamaki is traumatized about her voice, and miwa shouldn't have said that. That said, tamaki *was* getting angry with miwa, and I think it's reasonable for miwa to feel intimidated there (esp after how tamaki used the same tone to basically force miwa to have sex).
I think miwa was pretty gentle with tamaki, and didn't come to blame tamaki for her low sex drive or anything. Just expressed that this type of relationship doesn't work for her! And that's ok! Again we see the language of compromise when tamaki thinks they can compromise on their v incompatible sex drives, but miwa stays true to her needs and pushes through. I'm sure Saeko's advice in the previous chapter helped miwa have the strength to not let this turn into another shitty compromise.
Anyway MIWA DID IT!! I'm really proud of her for accepting herself and what she wants from a relationship, rather than sticking around and continuing to feel like shit bc she has a high sex drive. I wonder if we'll see saeko and yuria in the next chapter (mirroring how 103 was split between the two couples)
