Hi! I'm Orion (they/them as well as bone/boneself), and this is a sideblog where I dump all my otherkin and copinglink stuff.

I'm in a lot of fandoms and listen to Will Wood, Bo Burnham, and Lemon Demon. I'm the shy gifted (autistic) kid you knew back in elementary school, but now I've got creative burnout, half a dozen unfinished writing projects, and probably depression.

what kind of hell dimension do we live in that ai wrote a kid's suicide letter and the systems dispersing this news are so infested with the kin of the ai trying to guess what you want to see that we don't know what's real or not because the ai running the algorithm doesn't care about facts? and when it finally shows you something true IT IS IN THE MOST WATERED DOWN BULLSHIT LANGUAGE. and then you turn to the age old reliable source of information, actual inter-personal connection, AND THE REALIZATION THAT THINGS HAVE ENDED UP FAR WORSE THAN YOU EVER IMAGINED HITS YOU.

Please know that even though I've never been very religious, I'm praying for each and every one of you in my own way to my god. I know things look dark right now, but please don't give up.

If it's alright, I'd like to make posts starting tomorrow to tag some of my mutuals and anyone who comments they want added, just to make sure everyone is okay. I might not do them on a regular basis, but I want to have a way of reminding myself and you guys that we're not alone.

For the longest time, I've felt that the otherkin label didn't fit my star-angel identity- so I decided to do some research. And I thought I'd found a term that maybe fit me but it was a new age religion and I'm not very familiar with those. So, I did more research. But I couldn't find any resources that weren't heavily biased or contradictory. So, I decided to check tumblr to see if there was a community on here who I could ask about it.

But the first post I saw was a big long bullet point list about all the reasons why new age religions were racist and ableist and stuff and I'm internally thinking "no, I thought maybe I was on the right track" then I thought "Maybe someone disproves this stuff in the tags" but I was wrong and all I got instead was one person in the tags rambling about how people who believed in the new age religion I identified with were all stuck up pricks because they never actually went out into the world and did good

And I start crying because I'm trying so so hard. I don't believe what I believe because I want to be special, I believe it because I need to believe that I have a home I can go back to and that I am worthy of love and respect. I believe I'm a star angel because I don't want the end of this life to be the end of me. I want and, in certain ways, need to believe that I get to go home when everything's said and done. Because this world doesn't feel like home. I just want to go home.

And so, it felt scary, seeing someone tear apart people with certain new age beliefs. Because even though I don't believe all the same things they do, it still felt like they were attacking me.

First of all, I'm so sorry that you dealt with that disappointment and feeling of being attacked. Figuring out your community and finding your people can be super rough, especially when your hopes are dashed like that. I hope that you're able to find peace, self-understanding, and a robust support network.

Second of all, does that word happen to be starseed? Because as someone who knows somewhat about that stuff from skeptic circles, I can promise you that the parts of it that likely resonate with you (reincarnation, having a purpose, having a home elsewhere, nonhumanity) are all beliefs that you can have, find, and be respected for outside of New Age circles.

You already pointed out that the harmless beliefs are tangled up with the harmful ones--and the fact that every other source you found you recognized as heavily biased or self-contradictory is a good sign that you know something's wrong!--and that can be difficult to deal with, catching strays because the harm-tainted version is most popular.

You may want to look into Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG), essentially the concept that people can have personal belief systems not validated by external texts, religions, or what-have-you. It's your personal truth, gained by experience, intuition, and reasoning, and you don't need to rely on other spiritual beliefs to build a framework that works for you.

You hit the nail on the head. Thanks for the advice! I was having a rough time, and I'm really glad someone took the time to respond to my concerns.

And yeah, the term was starseed, and I've since decided to distance myself from the term. I don't know all the ins and outs of any contreversy surrounding it, and it didn't align with my beliefs exactly anyways. It just felt off.

I'll definitely look into Unverified Personal Gnosis whenever I get the time, but I've got some stuff on my plate right now that might distract me for a while.
