Harry makes his way over to you, your name slipping from his lips once he gets close enough to speak. Your head snaps toward him, eyes wide and afraid. Your gaze softens, however, when you register the handsome features of his face.
āHarry,ā you breathe, and then youāre scrambling up from your spot in the booth, throwing your arms around his neck and crushing him in a tight embrace. Heās a bit surprised at your sudden display of affection, but he returns it, nonetheless, hugging you close with his fingers digging into your back.
āHey,ā he says. The greeting is muffled as he burrows his nose against your shoulder. āYou okay?ā
You nod quickly, pulling back and peering up at him shyly. āIām fine, Iām fine. Iāthank you for coming.ā
āOf course,ā he grunts, because havenāt you realised by now that he would do anything for you?
āWhyāre you out so late?ā he asks, his tone tinted with admonishment. He canāt help itāheās worried.
āMy friend and I were working on a research project at her place,ā you reply. āAnd I got hungry on the way home, so I figured Iād just stop off here, butāā
You break off, swallowing heavily.
His hands reach up to cup your face, tucking your hair behind your ears as he studies you carefully. Thereās a thin sheen of sweat coating your hairline, and your bottom lip is swollen, like youāve been chewing on it relentlessly. Fear brews in your eyes, but thereās something else, too. Relief.
āYou sure youāre alright?ā Harry presses, earnest.
āYes,ā you say. You wrap your fingers around his wrists, squeezing them softly. Your next words are quiet, barely audible.Ā
āHeās still out there, isnāt he?ā
Harry nods, flattening his mouth into a thin line.
