does anyone else like,,, choose a favorite character from whatever media u like than then ONLY care about that character? Like you find it EXTREMELY HARD to read/watch/make content of other characters cuz they genuinely bore you to death STRICTLY because they’re not your 1 favorite special character of that media?
okay uh. Let me know if I’m insane or not

Being a multi shipper is great because you like never run out of content if it’s a popular enough fandom.
Now I love comically large Adrian as much as the next guy, but hear me out on the potential of a comically small Adrian

okay I was discussing this with @polycrowtruther last night and I was just going to leave it at that but I do want to express my opinion on this publicly, I think it’s odd to have Kaz get surgery in modern aus to “fix” his leg. And because I don’t think I could put this any better than I did last night I’m just gonna copy and paste what I said here
me: “sorry but I just keeping thinking about this idea some people have about modern Kaz getting knee surgery or whatever to fix his leg and I’m just like. wow. how do you misunderstand what a character is meant to be so badly”
polycrowtruther: “Also you GROSSLY misunderstand what knee surgery can and cant fix” “by this point Kaz's knee is such a healed mess that I don't know if modern medicine can completely "fix" it”
me: “NO BECAUSE THAT’S ALSO WHAT I WAS THINKING,,, I feel like people completely forget what Kaz’s disability actually is, like his leg is like that because it broke and than healed wrong, it is already healed like that…I’ve never imagined there’s much you can do after that”
polycrowtruther: “Wjjejdjjfjf I'm glad we are on the same page at least lol”
me: “and it always gets me too because it feels like they’re getting tunnel vision when it comes to Kaz growing up poor in a historical time period that they kind of assume that the only thing stopping Kaz from being “fixed” is the fact medicine hasn’t caught up to what he needs yet…completely ignoring the fact there is magical people in this world who could “fix” Kaz’s leg with like probably a couple hours of work with just their hands, like unironically he lives in a world with better odds of that ~fix~ of his disability than the modern medicine and he Straight Up. Refuses It. like fuck the entire could it work thing because it doesn’t matter because Kaz doesn’t want his disability fixed 😭” (HEAVY on the last bit)
me: “also on top of that, in my experience, I still semi-chronic pain from a broken bone that I got probably medical attention for and got surgery on to fix,,, like the main symptom of his disability would still be a thing with proper medical care”
also some other points I didn’t bring up because we were both on the same page regarding this being kind of weird, again, beyond the fact knee surgery or anything else likely wouldn’t help Kaz any, it would be an probably be an incredibly expensive procedure (even with insurance) that would require weeks to months of recovering time and again, as someone who still experiences pain after surgical intervention it would not get rid of the main symptom of his disability, why would Kaz Brekker, a character who rejects literal magic healing that would restore his leg to just as it was before, go through all the hassle of surgery and recovery for something that wouldn’t even really help? Also, at the end of the day, Kaz Brekker is fictional character who is meant to be representation, who is meant for the people who probably have no course of “fixing” their disability even if they wanted too and to erase that rep in favor of unrealistic “fix” is weird behavior. Of course, there’s always nuance maybe some of these concepts come from disabled people who are doing wish fulfillment about wanting their disabilities fixed and that’s fine, it’s not in character behavior but people are allowed to write things that are ooc if it helps them feel better and I mean that very genuinely.
maybe I’m wrong! maybe there’s some form of modern medicine out there that could “fix” Kaz’s leg but again, and I know I sound like a broken record but this should really be enough to make people think twice before suggesting this kind of stuff. Kaz doesn’t want his leg “fixed.”
“She didn’t know when to stop,” said Kaz. Nina had a sudden suspicion that Genya had offered to heal Kaz’s bad leg. ” — crooked kingdom, pg 396
sure, you could argue this is from Nina’s perspective and Kaz never actually confirms that happened but there’s a lot of implications behind this one line. For one, the fact that Nina automatically assumes that it is about Kaz’s leg implies that this is something Kaz feels strongly enough about to where Nina knows that he would be upset someone suggested it. Two, this could mean people have offered to “fix” Kaz’s leg in past and Kaz has rejected it enough to where Nina knows about it, hell I wouldn’t be surprised, as much as I love Nina, if Nina knows this because she asked or tried to push for Kaz to his leg “fixed” early in their dynamic and he got angry at her. Also, even if something is told you from outside or unreliable perspective but the author never contradicts later on, it’s safe to assume the author wants you to take it at face value, if Bardugo wanted you to think there’s was a possibility Kaz wants his his leg “fixed”, she would’ve written that. but she didn’t. At the end of the day, I can’t control or police fandom and I don’t want to, you can do whatever you want forever. but I reserve the right to side eye that decision.
also another point made by polycrowtruther below that contains spoilers for a darker shore:
I’m both pro herbal medicine and pro vaccination because you can treat burns with aloe vera juice and sore throats with lavender infused honey but you can’t rid a country of polio with plants.
Don’t forget kids, jewelweed is a natural counteragent to poison ivy rashes but it won’t do shit against whooping cough
Mint for nausea, valerian and chamomile for sleep, antibiotics for fucking infections.
get your medication please, also: basil, rosemary, and peppermint are cockroach repellents. also orange peels work for other bugs
