I … Oh man, this is nerve-wracking. I actually did a piece of fanart for Downfall a few weeks ago, but I never posted it because I wasn’t sure if it looked good enough. Well, that and I’ve never actually played the 2009 version because I wanted to wait and play the remake without any preconceptions. All I know about Joe is what I’ve seen of him in The Cat Lady and what I’ve allowed myself to read about the game’s storyline.
I’m really tempted to post it and see what Mr. Michalski thinks of it (I could definitely make a similar, higher quality piece with what he’s describing, the flowers and fire-axe.) I just have mixed feelings, since even though you’re technically allowed to use SFM in commercial products (like a game cover) I DID use assets from Valve in the original render …. Granted, they’re heavily modified in the final image (and even then, the model I used for Joe is a fan-made model,) but … I really want to avoid trouble with copyrights and such. I wish I could submit a piece using what I’m familiar with, but at the same time I don’t want to invoke the wrath of a company like Valve.
That and if I did do I cover in this style, it might give people the wrong idea about the game (the image is a 3D render, which might lead people to assume the game is in 3D.)
… You know what. Fuck it. Here it is. Even if I can’t submit a cover, I can still submit a piece of fan art without infringing on anything.
Mr. Michalski, The Cat Lady helped me through a really rough patch of my life. I love your work, I can’t wait for Downfall in October, and I really hope you continue to make more games. I don’t know if I captured the feeling of the Downfall at all, but regardless, it was a lot of fun to make.
