i don’t think eating jackie was as much of a bad thing to do as most people make it out to be. obviously cannibalism is wrong in a regular day to day context, however, when you’re with you high school soccer team in the middle of winter in the canadian wilderness, your coach is missing a limb and depressed, you’re running out of your only food source that your schizophrenic teammate killed in the weirdest way possible; is eating a person, who is already dead, truly that unethical? i also don’t think that eating jackie was when the yellowjackets started becoming objectively bad people (it was watching javi die).

maybe this a hot take but i’ve seen a surprising amount of people act like eating jackie was the most deranged thing they could’ve done.

i’m going through a phase of old b&w movies and god this one was so fun. there’s something about the camera quality of old movies that make everything so dreamy and romantic and not just in b&w, for example, in gone with the wind (1939), though i despise it, the technicolor of it all plus the grainy look it has makes me hate it less. you can also see it in movies all throughout the 20th century and early 2000s.

regardless, the romance in this movie is so lighthearted it feels like a breath of fresh air. especially because old movies always flood in misogyny, but this one didn’t. not to mention veronica lake’s hair looks fabulous, as per usual.

i think this has become one of my favorite movies and maybe i live under a rock, but shirley maclaine and audrey hepburn’s performances are truly so underrated. i’ve always been someone who’s in love with tragedies, anna karenina being my favorite of all time, so when i found out that there was an old tragic b&w movie starring shirley temple and audrey hepburn i was immediately willing to download a plethora of viruses in order to watch this and boy was it worth it.
