                                                ❝PERHAPS I’M hoping it will know better than to stand in my way. ❞ Comes the answer & she’s ashamed to say it’s more a disgruntled complaint then the impressive threat she were aiming for. ( Though as far as ancient RUINS go, not many are liable to QUIVER with fear. )

For Lara she RESERVES a much more pleasant disposition, turning to offer a hand as they scramble over the wall. ❝ It’s a tad SLIPPERY on this bit, watch your step dear. ❞

Lara reaches out, taking River’s hand as she steps over the wall at its lowest point. This woman, though they have their....disagreements when it comes to their work, has become very IMPORTANT to Lara. She’s found herself opening up more and more to the elder and it’s surprised even her.

“THANK YOU.” Lara says, and she means it. Even when she’s past the slippery surface, her hand lingers a while in River’s own.

“Lead the way, Professor.”

Lara’s not got her shotgun - so there’s no shooting her way out. She has to find them another way and....well, his idea of through the door ISN’T going to work.

“Going through the door is too obvious, they’ll catch us and kill us the second we step out.” she pauses, studying her surroundings. When she finds what she wants, Lara’s smile broadens. “Those rocks up near the top. They’re loose. You get me up there I can pull them out.”

                        ❝ —Don’t be absurd, ❞ She scoffs in RESPONSE, crossing her arms against her chest defiantly. It does nothing to help her case of course ( Nor does the scathing glare she RESERVES for the wall in question. )  

                                ❝Of course, EXTREMELY excited dear. I’m merely suppressing it until we locate the gold & get the hell out of here. —Coming? ❞ & with that she’s off, PURPOSELY stepping over a ruined section of the wall as if the action proves her superiority to it.

“Well, the way you’re looking at it will burn a hole. What else is a girl supposed to think?” She teases as River steps over the wall. Lara has half the mind to tell River off, but she’s learned quick enough that it never works and it’s best just to let the elder do as she will at this sort of thing. That and, if she’s honest, Lara  quite likes the view she’s given hen River does step over the wall.

“--Coming.”

Yet it takes her several seconds to actually move, finding a quick way around the wall

Thank you for that rant, I think shipping kind of makes people abandon logic. I got frustrated the first few weeks Rise was out due to people saying they were "queerbaited" and that Rise was stupid for not focusing on Sam again.

Yeah, that had been my line of thought entirely. Shipping seems to be a huge catalyst in people saying she was “cast aside.” I won’t go into the whole queer-baiting thing.

 It seems to be a recurring theme with fandoms mind you.  I’m not sue why I expected anything more from this one, heh. Hopefully that’s something that will improve with time.

Okay so this has really been pissing me the hell off tbh.

POST IS PROBABLY SPOILER-Y

I just finished RotTR and went into the tag to reblog a few things because Lara tbh and noticed there’s a lot of game/writer/producer bashing because Sam isn’t a main character in it.

While I love Sam and would have LOVED to see more of her (because hell, they’re great together,) I seriously went into this not expecting to see her at all because of the way that the last game ended.

Let’s summarise TR 2013 for Sam

-Sam was taken by Mathias against her will. -Sam was hurt. -Sam was almost completely possessed by a psycho-bitch sun queen before Lara got a chance to rescue her.

& post TR?

-PTSD. No doubt about it. -Despite Lara stopping her, Himiko still managed to get some of her soul into Sam. It lay dormant for several weeks until they went to Mexico. She became cold, distant. Acted funny. Snapped at Lara. -While in Mexico, a storm hits and Sam jumps off the boat and into the sea. Lara tries to save her but she kills it by STABBING IT IN THE EYE. -Sam is AGAIN captured against her will after someone realises she’s possessed. She kills one of her captors with a Machete. -She becomes catatonic. Sees Himiko when she looks into a mirror.

& the AFTER EFFECT?

-When they FINALLY get home, Sam is distant/refuses Lara’s help. Insists she can handle it herself. Accuses Lara of running from her own problems. -Assaults a man who asked for directions while on a run. This resulted in her ARREST and subsequent residence in a mental institution. -When Lara visits her, Himiko reveals that she’s latched onto Sam. Lara is mortified.

It would be totally unrealistic if Sam was to go back to adventuring with Lara. Especially going to such a dangerous place. I mean, psycho sun queen and then ARMY OF THE DEAD??? I mean god knows what that did to Lara, imagine what it would have done to Sam.

So yes, while I would have liked to see Sam, I didn’t expect to. I don’t expect to see her and Lara on an adventure together again. Don’t bash the writers for showing that not everyone is all sunshine and rainbows after a trauma. Don’t call it ‘sidelining’ a character because she’s UNDERSTANDABLY not on the adventure with Lara because of past events.

She wasn’t “sidelined”, she was institutionalized because she was a danger to herself and those around her.
