Legit question: what do I do about the 30-50 feral hogs in my front yard?
some dnd backstory ideas that give your character a reason to leave home that isnât âeveryone in my family died.â (just to say: i have nothing against those backstories (i use them a lot), but its fun to mix it up!)
family/friends/personal
someone close to you is sick. you need to adventure to find a cure
someone stole something important from you and you need to find it
youâve received a message from a long lost relative and are trying to find them
someone that you love has been kidnapped (maybe you have to earn money to pay a ransom or complete some deedâŚ)
adventuring runs in the family! everyone is expected to complete one quest in their lives
your family/culture sends people out to complete certain tasks when they reach a certain age as a rite of passage
another playerâs character saved you in the past so you feel indebted to them and travel with them, protecting/aiding them
thereâs a magical drought in your hometown and you have to fix it
your hometown doesnât have a lot of jobs so you have to travel and send money back home
some childhood friends and you made a âscavenger huntâ where you try and complete a checklist of certain tasks (ie. defeat a barbarian in hand to hand combat, steal x amount of gold, slay a dragon, etc) in an allotted amount of time
quests/jobs
a god/patron has sent you on a quest to do something for them
youâve been hired by someone to complete a task (and you get sucked into the big adventure along the way)
youâre on a quest for knowledge. maybe itâs to learn the best ways of fighting, maybe itâs something more academic related
your priest received a vision from your god and they sent you on a quest
youâre writing a book about the world and different cultures and you need first hand experience
youâve found every map youâve come across is shitty, so you decide to become a cartographer and make your own
youâre a detective who helps solve crimes and need to travel to solve a particular case
youâre a collector of a certain object and travel across the land to find it
youâre apart of an adventuring academy and have to complete a quest to graduate
youâre an artisan and you travel with your wares, trying to sell them. alternatively, youâre trying to spread word of your business and gain new business partners
you worked at a tavern your whole life where an old bard would sing songs of their adventuring party and that inspired you to go and do some adventuring of your own
feel free to add some of your own!
Honestly I get so bored of âMY PARENTS ARE DEAAAADâ backstories. Not to say it canât be done well, but it makes it a lot easier to give a character some⌠character⌠if they have family and friends to bounce off of.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the Cascade Kingdom can be seen in the skybox of the Cap Kingdom. Zooming in on the Cascade Kingdom texture using the gameâs camera function, we can see a small graphical error where a rectangle above one of the bushes is mistakely colored in with a gradient. Note that this is not a cliff, as the texture is made from Cascade Kingdom assets and no such cliff is present in that worldâs skybox.
However, this finding is really minor and is not the real reason I wanted to show you this. Please read the attribution line on the bottom of the image. I have taken this screenshot myself, on original hardware.
Thanks to the incredible support I have received after starting the Supper Mario Broth Patreon, I was able to purchase a used Nintendo Switch from a reader who offered me to pay for it in installments. I now, for the first time in many years, own a Nintendo video game console; and for the first time in the history of the blog, I can write âscreenshot taken on original hardwareâ in the attribution.
I cannot express how much this means to me, and how grateful I am to all of you - every single reader who has been with me along the way - to be able to play Super Mario Odyssey, a game I have dreamed about playing since it was announced, but was never able to. I will do my best to find as many unknown details about the game as possible, and post them on my blog - I am certain there are thousands of findings to discover.Â
Thank you so much, everyone. I could not have made it this far without each and every single one of you. I hope you will enjoy the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey content as much as I will enjoy discovering it for you.
Supper Mario Broth remains some of the most wholesome content on the internet
I donât know nothing bout no costume design, but Iâm having a fucking blast

Annnnd here are some drawings I did while working on the finale.
I tried to put a lot of answers in the finaleâs intro and I wanted to include a new fire elemental and slime elemental to give closure on Flame Princess and Slime Princess (The other elementals are accounted for in the intro.)
Also seen here is a new Lumpy Space Princess, and possum named Clover that I came up with for a pitch that eventually turned into âThe Moe You Know / The More You Moeâ, the original drawings of BMO as the King of Ooo, the finale-era Ice Thing and Turtle Princess that I drew on a plane, and some Shermy and Beth notes (I changed Shermyâs sword design so it could fold up and fit in his little bag)
sakurai, please... i have so many great assist trophy ideas...

i took too many sleep meds and broke my âno social media argumentsâ rule and went off on some white lady on facebook last night, and i thought of an interesting analogy.
so imagine youâre a farmer; like born and raised, youâve been getting up at dawn to check the chicken coops and milk the cows since they day you learned to walk.Â
now imagine someone thereâs someone who has lived in the city all their life. straight nyc, has never stepped foot in rural land ever before, and they come up to you, and they say, âi know what itâs like to be a farmer.â
of course your immediate reaction is, âum, i think the hell not?â right?
but the city slicker refuses to let up. they insist, âno, i know exactly what itâs like to be a farmer, and you telling me that i donât is prejudice against me.â
so you say, âhow can you possibly know what itâs like to be a farmer? have you ever done morning farm chores? have you lived somewhere thatâs completely cut off from other people? have you ever even planted a plant?âÂ
and they say, âno, but iâve seen movies and iâve heard of farms, so i know what itâs like to be a farmer,â and if you try to explain that, no, you donât know what itâs like to be a farmer, that knowing about farms and living on a farm are completely different things, they just get angry at you, and refuse to believe that they couldnât possibly know what itâs like to be a farmer.
but then thereâs another person, another city person, who comes, and maybe theyâre from a slightly smaller city, and theyâve actually visited a farm or two, and they tell the city slicker, âno, there are differences between cities and farms and i will explain them to you, since thereâs no one else to do it.â
so of course youâre like, âyou know, iâi can actually tell them what itâs like to grow up on a farm, since i actually live on a farm, and youâve only visited a farm, soâŚâ
but the one whoâs visited a farm talks over you, and tells the city slicker some things about what itâs like to live on a farm, and sure some of it is right, but itâs not completely right, because they still donât actually, you know, live on a farm.Â
but now the city slicker is like, âoh, yes, now i understand completely, and i now i really know what itâs like to live on a farm. in fact, iâm going to be an advocate for farmers, since farmers canât speak for themselves.â and then the city slicker goes on and tells other city slickers this third party information about what itâs like to live on a farm, meanwhile youâre still trying to insist that, no, youâre still missing some key aspects of what itâs like to live on a farm!! but no one is listening.
and while this is going on, there are some people around you who are saying, âactually, i donât see terms like âruralâ and âurban.â i think weâre beyond that. isnât it actually worse for society for us to categorize like that? why canât we just see that cities and farms are exactly the same?â
and youâre like, no!! that doesnât make sense!! because they arenât exactly the same!! the experiences of a farmer vs the experiences of a city person have fundamental differences, and itâs not wrong to recognize them, itâs just true!!
and then of course there are the ones who are just like, âi think we should just burn all farms to the ground, fuck farmers.â
and at that point, you just develop a drinking problem, because theyâre just never going to get it.
thatâs what itâs like to be a person of color. yâall are city slickers refusing to believe that you may not actually know what itâs like to live on a farm.
but hereâs a secret:
itâs okay not to know things.
the problems arise when you refuse to admit that you donât.
open your city slicker mind.
visit a farm.
listen to a farmer.
and most of all, realize that farmers are always going to know more about farms than you,
and itâs okay.
that is all.
