I am a diagnosed autistic with a hyperfixation on The Eurovision song contest and something has been bothering me these past couple of days.
Joost Klein, the representative of the Netherlands has been disqualified because of (allegedly) an altercation between him and a camerawoman ?(basically a paparazzi) who filmed him without his consent and kept on doing so, despite him asking not to be filmed multiple times.
We don't know if that was a physical or verbal altercation, but based on what I have read, it was a threat of physical action. However, the said action did not take place.
What I did notice on different interviews I've seen of him (and also the last press conference he had, the one in which he said "why not" regarding Eden Golan) is that he covers his ears with earbuds in 90% of these occasions.There are also instances of him covering his face with something, the most prominent instance being the press conference in which he had covered his face with a flag of the Netherlands. He also answered an autistic fan on reddit about what helps him when he "gets overwhelmed by all the noise and people areound him". Also, the simple fact that he said "why not" during that press conferences shows how he speaks his mind without second thoughts. A very neurodivergent characteristic (for this also take a look at our witch queen "bambie thug" for example. She stated she has ADHD)
What if the blue guy this year is actually autistic?
And y'all need to pay attention, this guy did BIG! He literally performed in front of hundreds of thousands of people shouting out his song (which is amazing btw🥹) having done the same thing couple of times in the days prior, giving interviews and practicing with shit ton of people in between. If this is actually the case and he is autistic, This would've been a nightmare
Autistics might not even realize it themselves, but being exposed to noisy and busy environments for such a long time overstimulates their brain little by little, and at some point everything goes blank, and meltdowns start.
This is what happened that night. After being hyperstimulated enough and reaching the point of explosion, He encounters a paparazzi who keeps following and filming him. He keeps asking the lady to leave and to stop filming, but she doesn't listen. And at some point he starts having a meltdown and what allegedly happened, happens.
And before you say anything, i know it's not the smartest move going shit angry a mere day before representing you country in the biggest music contest in the world but if what i assumed happened is actually what happened that night, This would be really sad. Like, SAD SAD.
Meltdowns are no joke, and neurotypicals can not fathom the shame, hatred and self-loathing autistics carry on their shoulders because of this. If this was the case, i hope he doesn't blame himself.
