This pair of E-units (631 was an E6 trailed by an E3) is backing the Chicago-Omaha “Cornhusker” from 47th St. coach yard past the 16th Street tower to LaSalle St. Station, preparatory to its departure. The diamonds it just crossed are those of the Illinois Central’s mainline to Iowa, and the “St.Charles Air Line” that was jointly owned, and ran over all those bascule bridges one sees in southward views from Roosevelt Road.
