Karlsson's injury is a freak accident and hearing those say Cooke did it intentionally have no clue what high level hockey is like. As talented as these players are, even thinking they would or could cut an opponents achilles is absurd.

But aside from that, in today's NHL, why are these professional athletes not taking advantage of the cut resistant socks on the market? At $40 a pair, I'm pretty sure they, or their club could swing some. Your body is your job and if it means surgery on a cut achilles or some stitches for a laceration, put the damn socks on! Bauer makes 'em, so does Reebok as well as a number of other non-hockey companies.

The quality of every piece of equipment you wear is important, even your socks. Accidents will still happen, injuries are part of the game, but that's no reason to take even the most basic precautions. Play hard, play smart!
