Hello, I love your blog! In a few months I'll be moving to a new city for a new job. I've moved around before, but I've always moved with family members (which makes it easier I think) and this will be my first time living completely alone in a new place. I'm also a bit of an introvert and can have a hard time finding friends. Do you have any tips on making this transition a bit smoother and staying social? Thank you!
Living On Your Own (For the First Time)
1. PKW. Phone, keys, wallet. Every time you go anywhere. Check twice. The worst part of living on your own is having to rely on yourself to never forget to lock yourself out or leave your wallet at a sandwich shop in a mall. Make absolutely sure you have duplicates of your keys (I would get a couple made) and give one to a friend who lives nearby who you can count on. I also like to keep an extra set inside the apartment itself in a secure place, just in case. Your landlord can let you in during office hours, but giving a key to a trustworthy friend helps you 24/7.
2. Cleaning routine. You donât have to sit down at a writing desk and draft this out, but spend a few minutes coming up with a basic cleaning regime for you to follow. Itâs definitely easier to do a little each day, but if that doesnât work for your schedule set aside at least an hour and a half during your time off to get your apartment spotless. I donât know about you, but whenever I deep clean my apartment I feel like Iâm living in a hotel for a day, and I absolutely love it.
3. Make a âmovingâ shopping list. This is everything you will need (minus food) for your first week at your new place. First aid kit, cleaning supplies, tape, cat food, etc. Your first week moving into your new place will be stressful enough, you donât want to be halfway through setting up your living room and realize that you forgot to buy trash bags.
4. Secure yourself. Iâm not the most agile or fast person in the world, and I do live in a mid-sized city that has a good deal of crime. The apartment complex I live in is very safe, but I still like to double lock my front door at night. It might be smart to keep some pepper spray or a baseball bat somewhere in your apartment, just in case.
5. Stay social. Even the most anti-social person gets lonely. Make sure to hang out with your friends, not just your co-workers, your actual friends. Get out off your apartment every few days and go see a movie, get a cup of coffee, go people watching at the park, etc. Itâs easy to get depressed if youâre living alone and doing the same things the same way every day- allow yourself to mix it up.
6. Meal prep. It can be stressful and seem useless to cook complicated or âfancyâ meals when youâre living on your own. Plan your meals for the week and make a list before going shopping. Get yourself enough food to make a variety of dinners that will only take you fifteen minutes. If you do want to go crazy and make steak and mashed potatoes for yourself, make enough for two meals. Also, nobody is going to think poorly of you for stocking your fridge with a couple frozen dinners.
7. Customer service. Living alone means that you are going to be doing a lot of talking to customer service representatives. Get comfortable talking to people over the phone. Tell the rep what you need as quickly as you can, and try to be polite because customer service at a phone center is a garbage job that doesnât pay well. On the flip side, donât be afraid to ask for a manager if youâre upset or unhappy with your service. Take their survey at the end of your phone call, tell them how unhappy you are. Itâs someoneâs shitty job to look at all those surveys, no complaint goes unheard. Companies with great phone service: Verizon, Apple, Amazon. Companies with awful phone service: USPS (literally the worst), electric companies, health insurance companies.
8. Guest space. This is not required, but itâs a good idea to have some sort of space for a friend to stay the night. A friend of mine had a bad breakup, showed up at my apartment with ten minuteâs notice, and then fell asleep on my couch after an hour of crying. It as 7:30! Whatever, she needed it. Keep an extra blanket and pillow in your closet, I like to keep travel sized shampoos and conditioners in my bathroom cabinet on the off chance a guest wants to use my shower. I got these at a hotel for free, but theyâre available at CVS and other pharmacies.
9. Toilet paper. Donât let yourself run out of toilet paper! I like to buy more when I notice I only have one roll left. The same deal goes for paper towels.
10. Enjoy. Living on your own is simoltaneously exciting and exhausting, but an all around must-have experience. Enjoy the freedom to forget to make the bed, to decorate your bathroom however you want, to have ice cream for dinner, to watch reruns of Friends and cry when Rachel decides to move to France. Make sure to give yourself lots of space to move at your own pace, but please remember to eat three meals a day and to go to the doctorâs for a checkup at least once a year!
Making Friends
First things first- we as humans are social creatures. We seek out social interaction, even the most antisocial person in the world still needs the occasional stimulating conversation. Donât stress about making friends, itâll happen one way or another.
The best friendships are created organically, but that said, there are some things you can do to quicken the process.
1. Friends by proximity. Be social and inquisitive when meeting your new co-workers and that openness will help you create fast friendships. Ask lots of questions, people love it when you ask them lots of questions about things. Remember elementary school? Remember how easy it was to make friends then? Youâve got this.
2. Places. Hang out at places that you would normally hang out with your friends. Scope out cool bookstores and cozy coffeeshops, and be on the lookout for similar-minded people. Find reasons to talk to these strangers, whether that means asking them for directions, what theyâre drinking, etc. The next time you run into them, youâll be able to start up a conversation.
3. Events. One of the quickest ways to make lots of new friends is to join a group that meets weekly that does something thatâs important to you. This could be anything from a book club, to a Dungeons and Dragons game, to volunteer work. Go to your local library and read the bulletin board looking for groups that interest you. You may have to get on the internet to find something close by. At the very least youâll have a weekly social event to go to where you wonât feel out of place.
4. Neighborly. This next one depends on you, but if you have cool looking new neighbors introduce yourselves to them. Hit them up at random and say something casual like âI was going to go out for a drink, wanna join?â Planning things in advance puts pressure on acquaintances, so try to be spontaneous.
If any of my followers have any ideas, please chime in! And good luck!

đTo make a travel altarđ
Here Iâll show you my personal travel altar and give you some ideas for making yours!
đ Travel Altars đ
Some witches like to have a little box, bag or tin where they can carry some items like candles, miniatures, coins, etc, and use them in rituals or prayers! This way, you can take a little bit of magic with you everywhere!Â
You can also use the little tin to put images of your gods/goddesses or a little portable shrine!
This is what mine looks like:
đ Items đ
Some ideas for a portable altar are:
~ Little candles, tea light candles or birthday ones work perfectly!
~ A mini box of matches or a lighter. You can cut the working part of the box of matches and stick it to your tin if the full box doesnât fit, and just take with you 4 or 5 matches and replace them periodically.
~ Salt on a tiny bottle or a little sachet! McDonaldâs ones work just fine.
~ Other spices or herbs of your choice, maybe rosemary or lavender or others that fit your needs.
~ Iâve seen many make tiny tarot decks, and personally iâve made a runes set! it fits on a tiny glass bottle.
~ Little bottles or containers with water, it may be sea water, rain water, etc! for some ideas you can check my Water Correspondences post!
~ Some crystal chips, these can be from one that broke recently or some you bought. Clear quartz is always a good idea, but you can take as many as you want! When youâre making your portable altar, think on where youâre going, and what crystals or herbs you may need there, that can helpâ„
~ Iâve also seen many people with tiny altar cloths, small figurines or even altar tools! like chalices, pentagrams (like the one in the image above), athames, wands and many more! You can make these yourself with some cloth and polymer clay or ceramic! (ceramic will be better for water containers, and polymer clay is perfect for offering dishes)
~ Other items related to your craft. Sea witches can take seashells, mirrors, dolphin figurines, etc. Kitchen witches can make a little recipes book to take with them and cooking ingredients. Crystal witches can have a travel altar only made for carrying gemstones. Dragon witches can take with them dragon figurines, dragon trading cards, candles and coins as a treasure. Possibilities are endless!
~ All these items should fit perfectly on an altoids tin, a little cloth bag, a mini backpack, or a wooden box! Choose whatever makes you feel comfortable!
~ You can personalize your travel altar as much as you want: if itâs a bag, embroidery! if itâs a tin, polymer clay is useful for adding details! or hot glue for gems, seashells, rocks. You can also use dried flowers or leaves.
đ Hope this was useful and inspiring for you all!đ
Remember that my ask box is always open for questions. If you need advice or help making these or just want some ideas for your personal altar, iâd love to help!Â

About a week ago, i had the urge to figure out how to hand knit Jessica Jonesâs Infinity scarf. i looked to see if anyone had the pattern. i couldât find it. some people said it was a type of seed stitch but it didnt look like it to me. So, i played around with some samples. made swatches. i figured out this stitch pattern. now, i just âmadeâ this pattern up, but then i wondered if this pattern had a name. I FREAKING FOUND THE NAME!!!!Â
So, if youâre knit savvy, or know someone who is that would want a Jessica Jones grey infinity scarf, the stitch pattern is called âribboned stockinette stitchâ look it up. just make it as wide as you want and as long as you want and connect the ends to make it infinity.Â
Youâre welcome  Â
update: thank you to @thigm0taxis for letting me know its also called half linen stitch

Some Hurricane Irma preparations
Seeing as how the hurricane is destined to hit the east coast of Florida and possibly other parts of the US hereâs a checklist of things youâll need in case of a power outage.
Flashlights, (battery operated) lanterns, candles
Canned foods such as chili, soup, chef boyarde
Peanut butter and bread
Water both in bottles & gallons
Dry pet food for your pets
Charcoal or firewood
Matches and lighters
Batteries in AA, AAA & 6V
Tampons, pads, and deodorant
A portable phone charger for each member of your family
Bags of ice + coolers
Toilet paper
5 Gallon gas can
A waterproof wrist watch
First Aid Kit
Bug Spray
Books, playing cards, and board games (trust me, during a power outage it gets boring AF bc time feels like itâs running slow)
Also somethings to do before the Hurricane hits you
Make sure to do all your laundry - thereâs nothing worse then having no fresh clothes to wear because of no power.
Set all your Soundcloud/Spotify playlists on offline mode - some good music will help make the hurricane less dreadful
Now is the time to finish up that jug of milk and empty your fridge of anything that could spoil/rot without refrigeration.
Hours before the hurricane hits, If you have a bath tub fill it up so that you can get running water for your toilet.
Make sure you have cash on you and that your wallet contains your state ID
