The Seattle Seahawks opened up a spot on their 53-man roster for free agent running back Fred Jackson by shipping Christine Michael to Dallas on Sunday for an undisclosed draft pick. The Seahawks reportedly traded RB Christine Michael to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. (AP Photo/Elaine Thompson) ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news via Twitter , with NFL Media’s Albert Breer writing Seattle received a conditional seventh-round pick for Michael.

The Seahawks have not yet responded to a request for confirmation by seattlepi.com

Michael was the Seahawks’ top draft pick in 2013, selected No. 62 overall out of Texas A&M. A naturally explosive runner, the 5-foot-10, 220-pounder struggled with ball security and picking up the nuances of the passing game in Seattle, which led to him playing just 14 games over two seasons.

He leaves the Seattle with 254 rushing yards on 52 carries.

Former Buffalo Bills star Jackson will seemingly fill the backup role held by Robert Turbin the past three seasons after Turbin was placed on injured reserve by the team on Saturday. Undrafted free agent Thomas Rawls will be the Hawks’ No. 3 back.

Tracking the day’s roster moves. The Seahawks have until 1 pm PT today to cut their roster down to 53 players, and have already started telling a few players that they won’t be retained.

– In the run-up to the deadline, Seattle will apparently waive Robert Turbin with an injury designation. The backup running back suffered a high ankle sprain — believed to be a five-week recovery timetable — so Seattle apparently feels strongly enough in the abilities of Christine Michael (who they’re apparently trying to trade, per a report) and/or Thomas Rawls, Rod Smith, and Derrick Coleman to be the backup options. The signing of Fred Jackson was also a signal that Turbin was quite a ways away from coming back. Seattle could potentially bring Turbin back once his injury has healed, so waiving him is preferable to placing him on the Injured Reserve, as Turbo’s a free agent after this season anyway.

Reggie Wayne out in New England, WR asked Patriots to release him

If Reggie Wayne ‘s going to continue his NFL career, it won’t be in New England. Wayne was cut by the Patriots on Saturday after only 12 days with the team.

There is an odd side to this story though: Wayne actually asked the Patriots to release him.

Patrtiots coach Bill Belichick explained that the parting was mutually agreed upon.

"Obviously, Reggie’s time here was brief, but it only confirmed what I already thought — he is a true professional who represents every positive attribute a player should emulate," Belichick said. "Our parting was mutually agreed upon and I am personally grateful to have worked with one of the great NFL players of the past two decades."

The former Colts signed with the Patriots on Aug. 24 and suited up four days later for the New England’s Week 3 preseason game against the Panthers.

I do expect that Seattle will look to make a trade and/or work the waiver wire once it’s all said and done, so this is a little bit of a futile exercise, but it can give you an idea of what to expect.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles traded quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, clearing the way for Tim Tebow to potentially be the Eagles’ No. 3 quarterback.

Tebow, 28, helped himself with a solid performance in Thursday night’s preseason finale against the New York Jets . Playing the second and fourth quarters, Tebow completed 11 of 17 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw one interception.

Barkley, 24, started the game against the Jets, an indication that he was still ahead of Tebow on the Eagles’ depth chart. But Barkley completed just 4 of 9 passes for 45 yards in his two quarters of work against the Jets.

If Barkley remains on the Cardinals’ roster for at least six weeks, the Eagles will receive a seventh-round draft pick in next year’s NFL draft, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Eagles don’t have to submit their final 53-man roster until Saturday at 4 p.m. Coach Chip Kelly would decide to keep just two quarterbacks, but that seems unlikely because of starter Sam Bradford ‘s injury history. Kelly has also stressed depth at quarterback after using two starters each of the past two seasons.

The Seattle Seahawks offense had been less than impressive this preseason, scoring just one touchdown through the first three games. You’d have no idea that was the case after the Hawks’ first drive Thursday night against the Oakland Raiders at CenturyLink Field.

It took just two plays to go 63 yards to the end zone, Seattle’s first offensive touchdown since August 14. The drive lasted just 39 seconds.

It began sour with a 1st-down run by Christine Michael for no gain, then sweetened when Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson dropped back and saw that rookie wideout Tyler Lockett had completely beat his man on a go-route.

The result was a 63-yard touchdown pass to the third-round pick.

Lockett has now scored three touchdowns this preseason — a kickoff return, punt return and a receiving score.

Last week, a disappointing performance by the offensive line (and the offense as a whole – including Russell Wilson) left Seahawks fans slightly outraged, worried, and concerned. But fret not! Alvin Bailey, who replaced Russell Okung at left tackle due to injury precaution last week, was the consistent weak link on the line. With so much hype surrounding Bailey in the off-season, I was surprised to see such a discouraging performance from him. The good news? – Okung’s injury was minor and he’ll certainly be ready. Bailey will be the backup.

With the recent release of center Jeanpierre in the first wave of cuts, it looks like the Seahawks have settled on their starting five (Russell Okung, Justin Britt, Drew Nowak, J.R. Sweezy, and Garry Gilliam) and that means Nowak is most likely going to be Seattle’s center. In thanking fans for their support over his nine-year career, former Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson also took a parting shot at general manager Doug Whaley in an interview with The Buffalo News.

"There’s only one person in that organization that I haven’t gotten honesty from, and that was [Whaley]," Jackson told the newspaper.

Whaley did not provide an explanation for Jackson’s surprising release when pressed by reporters Monday on the topic. Fred Jackson told The Buffalo News that his release "was a tough pill to swallow, especially because I felt like I can still contribute." "We thought for us and at this time, we had to make this decision," he said. "There are a lot of circumstances that go into that, but we will keep that in-house for competitive reasons.

"We also let everybody know that everybody was on board. Reluctantly because of the magnitude of this player and what he means, not only to the Buffalo Bills, but to the community of Buffalo — him and his family. Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive end Frank Clark was accused of trying to punch Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers after a sack during Saturday’s preseason game in San Diego, though video of the play seems to show otherwise. Seahawks rookie DE Frank Clark was accused of “attacking” San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers Saturday night, but video shows Rivers was the instigator. (Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images) Several Chargers players took issue with Clark in The San Diego Union-Tribune following the game, accusing the 2015 second-round pick of “attacking” Rivers after a second-quarter sack by defensive tackle Jordan Hill.

On the play, Clark pushed Chargers center Chris Watt back into Rivers as Hill beat left guard Jeremiah Sirles on the outside. Hill and Clark converged at the quarterback, taking Rivers down for a 9-yard loss. Clark then appeared to stay on top of Rivers for an extended period, causing San Diego tackle King Dunlap to pull the 6-foot-3, 272-pound defensive end off of the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback.

That earned Dunlap a 15-yard personal foul call for entering the post-play scrum, a point of emphasis for league officials this season. After the game, Dunlap defended his decision to the Union-Tribune.

If one thing stood out in the Seattle Seahawks’ 16-15 win over the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium Saturday night, it wasn’t the hype surrounding what was supposed to be the starters’ showcase game of the preseason. (AP Photo/Lenny Ignelzi) Seattle got the victory to improve its preseason record to 1-2 and quarterback Russell Wilson and the Hawks’ sort-of first-team offense played into the second half — but consistent offensive production was lacking nonetheless.

Richard Sherman returned to the ‘Legion of Whom?’ for the first time this preseason and Marshawn Lynch touched the ball, but neither ended up playing an influential role in the game’s outcome.

Sherman was rarely targeted, as expected, yet did display solid run defense and notched a couple of nice tackles. Lynch played a whopping three downs. And the Wilson-led offense controlled six drives into the third quarter, four of which finished with booming punts from Jon Ryan. Three of which were three-and-outs. The final two ended in field goals by kicker Steven Hauschka.

Even after the Seahawks – Chargers preseason game concluded, the hits kept on coming. On Saturday night, after falling to the Seahawks, members of the Chargers offense took aim at Seahawks rookie defensive end Frank Clark , who they claim attacked their quarterback, Philip Rivers , when Rivers was sacked by another player in the second quarter.

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers were "visibly angry" with Clark. The newspaper also reports that one Chargers player alleged that Clark attempted to punch Rivers after he was sacked by Jordan Hill .

After Rivers was sacked by Hill, Chargers left tackle King Dunlap pulled Clark away from the action, which resulted in a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. Dunlap said that he didn’t see what Clark did, but he just wanted to protect his quarterback.

"That guy was on top of Philip, and that’s our quarterback," Dunlap said. "I protect the quarterback at all costs."

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune , other members of the Chargers offense yelled at Clark.

SAN DIEGO — In the exhibition game regarded most like a dress rehearsal for the regular season, Seattle’s defense and special teams looked pretty well groomed for opening night.

Wright has long been valued for his coverage skills, but he knows the glaring hole on his resume. “I felt like I gave up too many touchdowns last year,” he said. “I felt like people were scoring on me.”

Wright is one of Seattle’s more unique players, even just physically. His legs look like they were ripped from a horse’s body, and his arms dangle like tree limbs. This natural construction comes with some benefits for an outside linebacker, namely that Wright has the size and wingspan to make life hellish for NFL tight ends. It’s the trait the Seahawks value most about Wright, former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn once said.

With no end in sight for strong safety Kam Chancellor’s nearly month-long holdout from the Seattle Seahawks, a Tuesday article from a former NFL general manger raises an intriguing (and until recently all-but-unthinkable) question: should the team consider trading Chancellor? Could the Seahawks wave goodbye to SS Kam Chancellor? (Scott Cunningham/Getty Images) Such an idea would have seemed ludicrous a month ago, when news first leaked that the 27-year-old three-time Pro Bowler was considering a holdout. But as Chancellor’s standoff with the team creeps closer and closer to the start of the Seahawks regular season, a drastic solution seems possible.

First, some background.

In 2013 Chancellor, a fifth-round pick out of Virginia Tech in 2010, signed a four-year extension worth just over $28 million that keeps him under contract through the 2017 season. But after developing into one of the NFL’s most feared defenders and seeing “Legion of Boom” secondary teammates Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman sign extensions that dwarfed his own, Chancellor decided to hold out from training camp in order to reportedly try and force GM John Schneider to at least restructure the deal to include more guaranteed money.

In an interview with Rolling Stone that was published on Thursday, Wilson admits that he "banged" his head during the game, but also added that there was no concussion because his recovery water healed him.

"I banged my head during the Packers game in the playoffs, and the next day I was fine,” Wilson said. "It was the water."

The Seahawks quarterback also claims a teammate’s knee was miraculously healed after he drank the water.
