I forgot how fucking good this is. After the demon is destroyed, Mithrun is catatonic-- the demon ate all of his desires, and all he had left was his desire to destroy the demon-- or so he thought. Kabru gets him moving by reminding him that we change, and form new desires every day. Then, Mithrun says he actually wanted the demon to kill him-- his desire was actually for death. He says he feels like vegetable scraps left on the cook table, useless.
Senshi only overheard the part about scraps being useless, and shows up to say HELL NO! You can make delicious broth! Some scraps will root in water! You can compost! Scraps are valuable, don't throw them away.
And Mithrun laughs so hard he cries.
I haven’t read this essay in… twelve years? I think? But someone (ETA: that someone was @whetherwoman who deserves the credit) linked it today and rereading it was a) a treat and b) honestly really helpful. If you, like me, want to write smut but often find it difficult, this essay may help a LOT.
I think Caleb is actually SO annoying to be sick around because he doesn't let you do ANYTHING. Like carry you to the bathroom and turn on the sink for you afterwards type of overbearing. This is his ideal situation, you needing him for everything and depending on him for your most basic necessities. No, no, don't argue with him that you can walk by yourself. Back to bed with you, he'll take care of everything.
