“Yeah, it kinda depends on where you’re born that makes you luckier or not, at least financially anyway.” Tink’s mind wandered for a moment. “You know those YouTube videos that ‘beauty gurus’ post every year where it’s just them opening everything that they got for Christmas? Yeah, that’s what this conversation makes me think of right now.” Biting her lip, she thought more deeply while Hayden spoke his third sentence. “You’re probably right though; they may have other things going on in their lives. We don’t see what goes on when the camera is shut off.”
As Hayden grabbed her hand, Tink’s mixed thoughts cleared away. It was almost relieving, as she was beginning to feel somewhat scattered from the sudden bounce between feeling bitter to feeling regretful. When Hayden spoke, Tink next reaction was to feel a bit confused due to the very formal greeting. She wasn’t used to being addressed in that way, but Tink didn’t comment on it. Unless Hayden had noticed the way her eyebrows had instinctively scrunched after his words had registered in her mind, then it didn’t really matter too much to her.
“That’s true,” she agreed. “So this works then, I guess.” She chuckled quietly, but her mouth quickly returned to a grimmer appearance. “No, yeah, I understand. Personally, I’m not much of a children person, but I tolerate them. If I didn’t, then I think the world would completely disown me around this time of year. Now that I think about it though, that wouldn’t be too terrible though,” she joked, the mood surrounding Tink brightening faintly once again.
Hayden wasn’t a person who kept up on modern social media trends, but thanks to the occasional family blabber, specifically his nieces; he knew the kind of feeling Tink was kind of talking about. He considered discreetly trying to hide the shopping bags in his hands; but perhaps that would draw more attention to his wealth than hide it. So he left them alone, and if her attention was drawn to it later, then so be it. “Well, if you think of it, showing off all those fancy things helps no one in particular, especially if it was deliberate,” he said, shrugging. “Human nature, I suppose.”
“I’m the same way,” he agreed. “The only issue I have with children is either because they’re being incredibly noisy, or if they’re disturbing me. Other than that, I have no issue.” After all, there was no time in his schedule to actively avoid children wherever he went. At Tink’s musing, he grinned a little bit, sharing in her lighter mood. “People would say it’s a crime to not tolerate them because everyone starts out as a baby, then a child; which would make it hypocritical. Sometimes such conversations make me feel like the case of Benjamin Button should happen to a few people.”
