Googling “How to nicely tell someone they need to size up their jeans” is hopeless; it’s just a bunch of babies on reddit telling me it’s mean to comment on other people’s clothes. (Which, I don’t really get. It’s not like you made the clothes; you just chose to buy them in a size 6 instead of the 8 you obviously need.) I’ll just never understand it. You’re not a size six, babe. Stop trying to be something you’re not. It’s punishing those of us with eyeballs who have to stare at your muffin top and… dare I say it - buttcrack all throughout fourth period!  Can anyone chime in on some effective tactics here?

They’re right, it is kind of mean. It is true sometimes. There’s a guy in second period who sits infront of me and I can see his like, whole buttcrack. It makes me uncomfortable. If you’re going to tell anyone to do that, can you tell him?

Celeste was thankfully warned about slushy facials by Mira. But the way that Hayley questioned if Celeste experienced the cruel joke, made her wonder if she really should be expecting it. That it was not a matter of if, but of when and where. “No, I haven’t…? Should I be waiting for it?” She questioned while idly thinking of what should be her backup dry outfit. “Well, I’m a Cheerio, and in New Directions. But I… don’t have a best friend?” Celeste gave as much information as Hayley did. She laughed though, shaking her head at the fact that she hasn’t found her soulmate in anyone yet.

“I wish I could say no, but you should. I’d leave a spare change of clothes in your locker, just in case.” Hayley liked the sound of this girl already, she seemed to like the same things she did. “Thats awesome, we’ll have a lot of overlap then! I’m sure you’ll find a best friend around here soon! Mostly everyone is friendly, there are a few here and there that aren’t though.”

“We girls got to stick together, right?” She teased, smiling at her. “Awesome. Um, you can come over to mine if you’d like.” SHe offered. Delilah rarely let people come over to her house because of her mom. It wasn’t that she was ashamed of her mom, she just didn’t want people to think she wasn’t talented on her own and try to use her to get closer to her mom. “We can head over there after school.”

“We do! We have to have each others backs!” Hayley chriped, missing the subtext. “Your house sounds great. We can head there straight after 6th period, I don’t have practice today!” Hayley had never been over to Delilahs house, they’d been kind of friends a while. She was kind of interested to see it to be honest. As long as it wasn’t a serial killer house or something.

“I don’t think that anyone thinks that you’re a mean girl.” Eyes moved down to look at the table. “Well, what if I invite them? Maybe for a Wednesday service? Or a Sunday evening service? We could always make a pact, if need be.” When she asked him about him questioning his sexuality, he nodded. “Yeah. I’ve kissed a couple of guys, but I realized that I wasn’t actually into guys. I’m comfortable with my sexuality though. You’re allowed to question it. God wouldn’t love you any less, and I’m sure you know that.”

“Oh, good. That would tank what little reputation I have in this school.” She hummed noncommittally. “You could try, they do like you, maybe you could convince them. You’d do a marriage pact for me? You’re so sweet ‘Miah.” She looks up at him. noticing his downcast look. “You’ve kissed guys! How did I not know that? I’d hope he’d still love me. I don’t know if he could at this point, I’m done some terrible things”

“Thank you so much, you obviously look amazing in it too.” She smiled at the other blonde, definitely already adoring her the sunshiney nature. “Hayley,” Celeste repeated feeling the name make her mouth smile as she said it. A name that does that suited her perfectly. “I knew you I saw you somewhere other than the gym.” Celeste realized and instantly felt better about the types of personalities she’d be surrounded by in the club, for she had no clue. “You know Hayley, I’m already liking it here. You’re a sweetie. Tell me about yourself.” She leaned in playfully and said in a hushed voice, “And I might tell you a thing or two as well.”

Hayley smiled shyly. She enjoyed the compliment. “I’m glad you like the school! It’s great, most of the time. Have you been slushied yet?” She asked with genuine sincerity. She just wanted to give the girl a heads up, just in case. “Well theres not much, I’m a cheerio, I’m in the New Directions, and my best friend is Jeremiah. Now you have to tell me about yourself! I’m expecting you too!” She giggles.

“No judgement here. I mean, you probably feel kind of defeated with everything going on. It’s understandable.” When she spoke about her parents, Jeremiah’s face fell. “I know,” he said softly, continuing to listen to Hayley. “What if..your parents visited a different church? They could visit my dad’s church, and he’s accepting. I have a cousin that’s gay and he accepted him with open arms and tons of love.” Hand went to her back, rubbing it gently. “It’s normal to question your sexuality. I’ve done it.” He propped his head on his fist, elbow on the table. 

“I cant have people thinking I’m a mean girl! Its hard enough to keep it off me with this uniform” She fidgets with the edge of one of her skirt pleats. “They wouldn’t. They’ve been going to that church since before I was born. I guess I’ll just have to marry a man. They’re alright, too, I think” she leans into his comfort, looking up at him “You’ve done it?”

“You think?” Brown eyes stayed on her as they continued to sit there. Taking a moment, he slid his book away from him before situating his body to face hers. When she said that things ended between her and Sydney, his face contorted into concern. “But why are you still having to hide?” He reached over taking her hand, wanting her to know that he was there for her.

“Don’t judge me, but I’ve had a few too many angry snaps at people to truly know.” She’d even had to remind herself to be nice! As if nice wasn’t her only personality trait! “You know my parents. You know the church we go to. You can tell me its forward all you want, but my parents will disown me if they find out their only kid is gay” Hayley sighs, slumping back onto the table. “If I even am, thats still kind of in question.”

It’s not that old then is it? It’s what, 4 years old, right? I know both of them, so I think I’ll be okay, but I’ll keep one just in case.

Well, technically four years old. But it used to be a normal highschool before it was performing arts school, and I think thats when the teachers used to go here. Slushying was a thing back then too- which is like, can we all just grow up? I’m tired of the pain of red dye number 6.

“Hey, Hayley!” Delilah smiled shyly at the blonde, walking up to her when she spotted her in the hallway. “I was wondering if you wanted to help me study tonight. That math test is going to be BRUTAL and I need all the help I can get.”

“Hey Delilah!” Hayley beamed back, excited to see her friend. Shutting her locker she turned to face the girl. “Of course I’d love to help! It will be awful, but we can get through it together!” Hayley has a split second where she considers saying I’d probably just make you flunk further, but she reminds her brain to shut up before continuing, “Do you want to come over to my house, or should I come over to yours?”

Flipping through his history book, Jeremiah had been studying for the upcoming test later in the week. He felt someone sit down beside him, and out of the corner of his eye, he knew exactly who it was. His best friend. With her question ringing in his ears, he turned to look at Hayley.

“Hey, Hales. I was just studying for History, but I can finish that later. How are you?” He could tell that there was something off about her, but he figured she’d talk about it with him whenever she wanted to. Closing his book, Jeremiah turned to look at the blonde, wanting her to know that she had his attention.

“I think I’m alright.” Hayley brushes a lock of hair from her face. She doesn’t really want to distract him from his work, but she just really needed her bestie right now. Plus, she knows that if he really had to study, he would tell her. “Things uh, ended with Sydney. She wasn’t happy we had to keep hiding”

Hayley flopped down at the table, leaning back and sighing. To say this week had been hard was an understatement. Hayley was struggling to find interest in anything, and she really just wanted to be at home, curled up in her bed with netflix. She’d already done that three times this week, pairing it with a side of crying into a pint of ice cream. 

She was trying something new, and so she sat down next to her best friend, trying her hardest to appear chipper. 

“Hey ‘Miah, hows it going?” She asked, secretly hoping that Jeremiah wouldn’t ask it back, even though she knew he would.

self para: regionals

To say Hayley had been nervous would be an understatement. She hadn’t had the best of weeks, yet another bad grade had come her way (goodbye dreams of passing chemistry) and to make matters worse, she broke it off with Sydney. She was not all there emotionally, and thats why the nerves had hit her harder today. She was used to competing, between being on the cheerios and the ND for two years. This was her third regionals, and as usual, she was swaying in the back. Yeah, she wasn’t overly confident in her ability to sing, but shes never even had a one line solo. Maybe she could ask Mr. Evans about it next meeting. 

Nerves running through her body, she barely managed to make it on time to get to the bus for regionals. Sitting on the bus, she regretting her Starbucks iced coffee, her hands literally shaking. She kept to herself for the ride, opting to put in her earphones and listen to some Selena Gomez for the ride. 

The time in the green room ticked by slowly, and Hayley spent far too much time doing her eyeliner. She knew her parents were in the audience, they always came to support her, whether it be a cheerios competition or even her old dance recitals. 

Those minutes on stage felt like magic to Hayley. All her nerves melted away, her focus on the dance steps and her small vocal parts. Maybe if she had a little more faith in herself she’d pursue a career in the performing arts, but for now she’ll take what she can get. 

Coming off of stage gave her such a rush. and she couldn’t stop fidgeting in her seat, anxiously waiting for the results. She hoped they would win, or at least place high enough to go to nationals.

Celeste’s smile beamed back at the other blonde in a Cheerios uniform. It brought her such joy to see another teammate. It was like that meme with the two Spidermans pointing at each other. “Thanks,” Celeste swished the fabric of her skirt once more for good measure. “I’m absolutely obsessed, red is so my color.” She chuckled then playfully and gently bumped her hip into the other’s, bringing their matching skirts together for a second. “I’m Celeste Lowell. I’ve met you briefly…” She introduced herself, but her voice trailed off and her eyes squinted as she tried to remember the other blonde’s name.

“Red is 100% your color, you’re rocking it girl!” Hayley gushed. She caught onto the girl struggling to remember her name. Its  “I’m Hayley! Hayley Fernsby. I’ve seen you around a little this week. I’m in glee, and obviously, the cheerios.” She gestures to her own uniform for effect.” Its nice to meet you! I’m sure you’re going to like it here.”

Celeste was practically walking on air as she strutted through the halls of McKinley. She had done it. In her first week in a new school she had successfully joined the most talked about cliques in the school. Cheerios and New Directions. Next on her list was the Debate Team because she could never pass up the opportunity to express her sacred anger. Being passionately angry? Sign her up. Her matte red lips were in a smirk as she thought of how she totally nailed her glee audition with a sweet angelic rendition of Phantom of the Opera’s Masquerade. Out of pure happiness, she twirled in her new Cheerios skirt, the red and white fabric swirling through the air. She placed her hands on her hips at the end of the hall. “Don’t you just love a queen that achieved her goals in less than a week? And in this case, the queen is me.” Celeste winked at the poor stranger who had bared witness to her…well, glee.

Hayley vaguely recognised the girl. She’d seen her at cheerios, and possibly glee- she seems to be spending more time sleeping in glee at the moment. Never one to forget her manners, she smiled at the girl. “We stan a queen like that” Hayley says, giggling. “Don’t you just love the cheerios skirts?”

Yup, it started way back when some of the teachers here went to school. You’re going to want to start carrying a rainjacket or a spare change of clothes, anyones open game. Unless you befriend Tommy or Stacey, they’ll get you on the no hit list.

It’s not unnecessary if they’re making fools of themselves and breaking rules, is it? We like to keep things fun, and sometimes that requires making sacrifices. Every party is basically a BYO sitch, but I will have a few bottles to pass around. Trust me - I’ve already told all of the boys that their little Falcon Punch concoction is, like, strictly off limits.Yuck.

As long as we aren’t just kicking them out for being them. People are allowed to like things that we don’t. I remember that Falcon punch, but I don’t remember the rest of the night. I’d really like to remember who I hooked up with next time I do.

Place: The Birds of Prey date

Time: 25th Feb 5pm

People: Hayley and @sydweston

The date started off well, with Hayley picking Sydney up in her little mini cooper. 

They headed out to applebees, opting not to pick breadstix because they’d been there one too many times. Sydney had a pasta salad and Hayley had a chicken sandwich. 

After eating waaay too much, the two of them tensely held hands as they walked into the movie theatre. 

Hayley had picked the movie-birds of prey, and was a little bit of a fanatic about it. 

Sydney was just mad that another date had gone by where they still had to stay secret. 

Afterwards, Hayley slyly snuck Sydney up to her room and they had a fun night of shenanigans.
