too much of water hast thou, poor ophelia, and therefore I forbid my tears || hayley + amada

FRUSTRATION  constricted the entirety of her form and, once again, Amada was left choking on false hope. Strong hands guided her to rest on the sand slowly, gentle and yet assuringâ I have you, the actions conveyed. Their gazes locked: I have you. Amada looked away almost immediately, shielding her glassy eyes behind a curtain of chestnut hair, lip all but trembling. âYou can go.â She didnât need the pity, didnât appreciate it. Her voice, usually so stoic in these last few months since her accident ( much like her demeanor ), held a bit of contempt now. When her aide lingered for a moment, silent, hesitant, Amada continued: âPlease. I just want to be by myself for a little while.â It was as close to pleading as she would get and the other woman let out an involuntary sigh. Amada still didnât look at her when she explained that she would be watching her from the boardwalk, adding on that she had fifteen minutes, before walking away.Â
When she knew that was finally alone, Amada let out a trembling gasp that traveled throughout the entirety of her frame â the amalgamation of all kinds of intense feelings flooding within her. Freeing, almost. Terrifying, most definitely. Breathe. She told herself as she locked onto the ocean before her. Breathe. She reminded herself while her heart raced with, for the first time in her life, uncertainty. The water was gorgeous today, clear, calm â the sound of it hitting the shore nothing short of therapeutic. The beach wasnât as packed as it usually tended to be; a sprinkle of people tanning, playing volleyball, swimming or lulling in the ocean and she was contented with the little privacy she had. God, she missed this. A part of her yearned to run to the water, to feel it against her body, to be swept away with itâs current and beautiful chaos and never been seen again. Then she looked at her left leg â what was left of it â and the reality of her newfound situation came crashing down on her again.Â
Fuck, she was tired. She was sick of the sadness rising up around her like flood waters, spilling into the passageways of her nose and mouth and throat and lungs ( there had always been empty spaces within her, but she was born a child of the water â and while people looked for drink and smoke to occupy their voids, Amada looked to the sea ). It hit her like a tidal wave because despite her best efforts of trying to block the agony that came with her life being completely rerouted and irreversibly alternated, Amada couldnât find the strength to let go of who she used to be.Â
âAmada?â
â        Shit,â In the not too far distance, her eyes unintentionally landed upon a very familiar figure. Having been in a world all her own moments before to realize any sooner, Amadaâs body tightened, right knee drawn up to her chin as she instinctively turned to look away. She knew it was too late but in this moment, she wished to be swallowed whole by the earth. Anything to not be seen by Hayley of all people. Please donât look at me. Not like this, not like thisâŠÂ Â
Of all the things Hayley expected to run into on the beach, her ex girlfriend and first love was probably the last. Suddenly she was transported back to two years ago when they were real and raw and on the edge of a total collapse in their relationship. Hayley felt herself rooted in the sand, unable to move or free herself from the hold Amada always seemed to have on her, even after their prolonged separation.Â
Once she got over the initial shock of seeing the other woman, she slowly got out of the tunnel vision she had and began taking in what was really in front of her. It was when she saw it that she staggered back, throat tightening and hand reaching out momentarily before she dropped it back down. âI... uh.. hmm.. well...â she rasped out. Pathetic. Get it together, Hayley. âYou...â she swallowed a couple of times over, âyou look good.â You fucking moron. âNot that um.... I just... I mean....â she beat herself up mentally, gripped her jacket tighter and then cleared her throat.Â
âHi,â she settled on saying after a moment of silence, trying very hard to catch up with the fact that her ex-girlfriend was sitting in front of her looking the exact same (if not more beautiful) than when theyâd last seen each other, except for the very clear fact that there was one limb missing from the equation. And fuck, was it hard to breathe in here or what? âItâs uh... itâs been a while...â
