Look, I understand that you're going through some shit, and you know I'll always support you, but I just had to fight your shadow-self in the kitchen. Yeah, I was getting breakfast and the enfleshed eidolon of your existential alienation was shooting, I don't know, some sort of beam.
It banished the Froot Loops to a far and sunless realm. I really wanted those.
#also i recognise that the self that walks in darkness is not inherently any more true than the self that walks in the light#but i've gotta ask: is there something going on that i should know about#like#pronoun-wise?
Shout out to that one Disney short they made in 1995 to play in front of A Goofy Movie by the French Disney team which directly parodied The Exorcist because early 90s Disney just did whatever the fuck they wanted
hey. hey what
HEY. WHAT.
It's called "Runaway Brain" :3 Disney has a love/hate relationship with it because it's extremely beloved and held in high regard but also it does NOT fit their modern image so they can't promote or release it to any wide capacity because it would 100% terrify children.
Oh some of you didn't know about this, huh?
Anyway
being a Bandit is pretty great. Just got a new place with a couple friends, in Doghammer Cave (long history of hammering dogs there). It's pretty nice for the area! Zero bedrooms zero bathrooms, but it's got a falling spikeball trap in the entrance and a couple big linear multipurpose rooms full of barrels. I put a couple gold coins in each barrel. Really makes it feel like home.
Our leader is Klade Doghammer (long history of hammering dogs). He's the only one of us with a name. He likes to sit in the last room (our house has a last room because it's linear) at a desk with a half-finished page of notebook about how he'll get revenge on the town someday. My best friend Female Archer Bandit said the people in the town don't even consider us human. She says if you stay a bandit long enough they kill you for money. Sometimes when she and I are alone on watch late at night I get a funny feeling in my bandit parts. I think I just heard the falling spikeball trap go off. We didn't invite anyone over today but I hope it's someone friendly. Being a bandit is pretty great.

See a lot of people excited about KHIV in late 2027, and I’m sitting here like “yeah, the mid-2030s are pretty late into 2027.”
I've spent a silly amount of time trying to learn to see Magic Eye illusions the past few days. It's like, I can definitely get my eyes into a position where I see a blob of added depth in the image, but I can never tell what that shape is supposed to be.
"Watching my dad (a GP doctor) watch House is more entertaining than the show"
GOD, I wish more doctors were more like this redditor's dad
been ages since I saw a rage comic!

oh.
Branson how much consideration do you put into general sex appeal when designing characters? I know you made some Rude Tales characters with that in mind specifically but what about your comic characters?
The more I draw the more I like challenging myself to "draw sexy" which is not something I had any talent for growing up, despite being raised on Jessica Rabbit, Lola Bunny, and John K's, uh, "whole deal." But it's good to make art with sex pouring out of it like tazatziki spilling out of the back of a cheap gyro.
Plus, it's not especially challenging to find people online with a lid for whatever pot you've drawn. People get horny for the Mucinex monster, it's gonna happen basically no matter what you do. Why, I give it several minutes before somebody says some shit like "bold of you to imply the mucinex monster isn't dummy thicc" or "excuse you that's my comfort jack-off fixation, thank you very much" in the replies to this very post. It won't be especially funny but it will be sort of beautiful.
imagine that your favourite band was on a generational run of albums, putting out 10/10 after 10/10, four singles a year you'd bet money on becoming classics of the genre. now imagine that between every record they also released a full length album where they covered jingles from cereal commercials and songs by white youtube rappers about five nights at freddy's, and these releases got a hundred times the promotion and airplay as their normal stuff: that's what it feels like to enjoy magic the gathering
the problem is i really do love staying up until one billion o'clock. it just cant be helped
can you reblog and tell me which of your ocs has the stupidest name
it's not that unusual, in translation, to come across something that has a dedicated word or expression in the source language but requires a lengthier explication in the target text. sometimes, however, it's the other way around! not so much found in the process of translation as found waiting for you in translation.
a very satisfying case, in the very first chapter I picked to translate, was
Gideon would have immediately made plans to ... do up all the buttons on [Harrow's] shirts, making sure that each button went into the hole above the one it was meant to go into.
which is a long description for something that Finnish has a word for:
[Gideon] olisi heti ottanut asiakseen ... napittaa kaikki [Harrow'n] paidat juoponnappiin.
(lit. button her shirts into drunkard's buttons)
No i didn't "forget to pack a toothbrush and a phone charger" its called on site procurement. Solid snake does it too

If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.
Reblog to save for later. Your WIP will thank you.
Ooo, useful for game masters (and maybe players) as well, in the right kind of TTRPG.
