"i love how i don't need to turn around and i know exactly who's here." lux mused, stood in the kitchen as she was finishing up cleaning dishes. the brunette grabbed the nearest dry tea towel and dried her hands, then she turned on her heals to face him. "to what do i owe the pleasure of this visit then, lucien?" she asked her brother, head tilting to the side slightly.

A CALMING PRESENCE. She supposed that she was such, in some sense. Empathetic by power, Ramiel had felt many emotions in the time she'd walked among humanity, and throughout it all, she'd kept her control over it all and offered aid when it was most needed. Granted, this probably was not entirely cause for her to give that aid, but Rollo was alone, and she'd rather find those alone after battle than the masses who cried over their wounds or bellowed about their victories in the feasting hall.
" I like to offer those who need it a sense of peace among the trials that life throws. " She'd always been a healer of sorts. Though unlike her sibling Raphael, Ramiel found comfort in tending to those who needed her. She was the guardian angel of Women bearing children and birthing them, so aiding them especially brought her a great sense of comfort and joy. However, she would always tend to the warriors who'd valiantly fought.
She took a step closer, and her fingers moved to pick up the front of her dress. She moved and sat herself down beside him, feet bare as she dipped them into the water beneath the pier and watched the gentle lapping of the waves. " I suppose I should be glad that I am not a man in this instance? " She wasn't 'man' in any sense of the term, truly, but perhaps telling him what she truly was would not bode well just yet. She could offer small hints, she supposed --- the rising of a wave on the horizon, the darkening of cloud above, the gentle patter of falling rain before low rumbles of thunder echoed over the land; they were all things she could make happen, but for now, she'd sit with him and allow her grace to continue its mending.
rollo let out a low chuckle at her remark, shaking his head slightly as he watched her settle beside him. "aye, that certainly helps."
his eyes drifted down to where her bare feet disturbed the water. in times like this, most people filled silence with useless words, especially after a victory. they drank way too much, boasted too loudly of their success and wins, and tried to drown whatever memories the battle had left behind. she seemed different. more content simply to sit away from everyone else; that alone made her different.
"i have known few people who offer peace freely." the burly viking male admitted after a moment. "most people want something in return." rollo mused, glancing beside him to the other for just a few moments, then it shifted toward the darkening clouds gathering overhead. the change was subtle, but he noticed it. A sailor always noticed the sky.
"the gods send storms often enough, but sometimes i think they enjoy watching men struggle against them." he explained, reminding himself of the familiar times where he'd seen boats capsize from the rough waters, and even when floki's boat he'd made for himself and his brother would rock intensely across the waves.
"you do not seem like the others celebrating in the hall. no drinking, no singing, no boasting about how many enemies fell beneath your axe... and you do not seem to be the type to want to want to bed the heroes either." the viking man leaned back on his hands, looking out across the water once more.
"perhaps that is why i do not mind your company." he said, a slight tilt to his head in thought. for a moment, he simply listened to the waves. "tell me, woman who i have not seen before... what brings someone like you to sit beside an old warrior when there are easier people to spend your time with?"

THE MAN MIGHT NOT be one of those under her father's domain --- he did not worship her father, nor did he probably believe in that of angels or demons --- however, Ramiel had walked among them for quite some time. Always hidden among the people, always performing her duties, and one of those was the protection of those who stepped into battle. As Yahweh's Thunder and Mercy, Ramiel oversaw much that came in the fighting of humanity. She watched as men were slain and others ascended to victory, and this battle had been very much one of those.
Now, men tended to their dead and wounded; others nursed their own wounds, both physical and emotional, and it appeared that this man was of the latter. Her footsteps were slow and soft against the wood, almost giving the appearance of floating as she came to stand just behind, with her eyes looking out at the water before them. " It's remarkably peaceful to watch in the height of the sun... " Her actions were subtle; the gentle waving of her fingers allowed for her grace to brush against him like the warmth of a mother's love, settling over stinging wounds and aiding their healing more quickly than they'd normally mend.
rollo lived by the ways of traditional vikings; raiding settlements, took anything of value and brought it back. his gaze remained on the water, following the glimmer of sunlight across its surface. at first, he paid little mind to her presence, assuming she was simply another soul seeking a moment of quiet after the slaughter, or someone wanting peace from all the drinking, eating and celebrating victory.
without shifting his gaze or turning to her, he responded. "aye," he grunted. "it is." as the strange warmth settled over him, easing the ache of battle from his body, his brow furrowed. he shifted slightly, testing sore muscles that no longer felt quite so sore. it was an odd feeling, one he could not explain.
his eyes drifted toward her then, studying her for a moment. "you have a calming presence, woman." words sounding reluctant, like he didn't want to admit it.
most people avoided warriors after a battle. They saw the blood, the scars... it was a lot for some people, but people in this settlement seemed used to welcoming their men and women back after their ventures. yet she stood there... as if none of it troubled her.
rollo looked back toward the sea and exhaled through his nose. "perhaps that is why you find it peaceful." he said, a faint smirk touched his lips. "or perhaps you are simply wiser than the rest of us." for a moment, he watched the waves in silence. "either way, i think i prefer the sea to the company of men today. it was a lot."

rollo sat back against one of the wooden posts of the pier, staring out on the calm water. he'd not long come back from battle where they had raided. the viking male sighed softly, the cool air licking at the wounds his body had endured. after a few moments, he brought the tankard to his lips, the warmth of the mead slightly burning as he swallowed and complete unaware he wasn't alone.

ivar's attention had been fixed on the stranger ever since he'd arrived in kattegat. everything about him was wrong, or at least to ivar it was anyway. the strange clothes, the strange words, the way he looked at the world as if none of it made sense? nothing added up to ivar, and that both interested him and excited him.
while the others around whispered that he was cursed or touched by the gods, ivar simply watched. as he was seated at the far end of the great hall, crutches beside him, he motioned for the young man to come closer, blue eyes sharp with interest. "tell me..." ivar began, a tankard of mead before him as he gently slid it over with two fingers. how does a man dressed like that find himself in my village?"
his gaze swept over stiles once more before a small, knowing smile appeared as he leaned forward. "and do not insult me with a lie."
โ Mhmm, I know someone else with a big ego, might even be looking at them right now.โ He could feel the seamed blood on his cheek drying; it made his nose wrinkle in disgust. โ I heard about the time you knocked out Hughie and left him on the floor of a gas station bathroom, and I bet the titles were covered in piss, too. โ It's fun for the first couple of minutes.โ
"you've been watching my ego, aye? how kind of 'ya." billy smirked, looking to him. "probably, but y'know... kid had to learn shit the hard way. he knew what he was getting himself into with all this, just had to make sure he a fuckin' weenie. still, he shown he was good enough to help with things even if he was laying in someone's stale piss." he explained with a slight shrug soon following. "fun for the first couple minutes, then what? as far as i can see, i ain't seeing any complaints from 'ya."
