Mavis Dracula || Twenty-Six (One Hundred and Twenty-Six) || Hotel Owner || Free Spirited || “Magical”
Trigger Warning: Death mention
Ever since she was a baby bat, her dad, Dracula, would always tell her stories of how scary humans and the outside world were. He would describe what they could potentially do to them if humans were to figure out that vampires, werewolves, frankenstein’s, and all sorts of monsters were real, and to say the least, it use to frighten Mavis. But once he finished with his stories, her dad would always reassure her that he was there to protect her from anyone and anything no matter what.
There were a lot of truths to the stories her dad would tell, as he didn’t say them to just intentionally scare his daughter, but rather because he spoke them out of experience as Mavis’s mom, Martha, was murdered by humans who were terrified of the fact that vampires were real. Rather than giving her parents a chance or seeing that they didn’t mean any harm outside of being supernatural beings who need blood in order to live, humans attacked her parents and her mom had been the main casualty of the attack. Losing his wife had harden and shut her dad’s perspective on the outside world, one in which he never wishes for his daughter to ever exhibit and in order to prevent Mavis falling into the hands of humans the same way, he told her these cold and frightening (and admittedly a bit exaggerated) stories in order to terrify Mavis into never wanting to venture out into the outside world.
For the first few decades of Mavis’s life, her dad had been successful in his protection of her. He was able to shut and hide their home away from all humans and only allowed other monsters to visit. And as more and more monsters came and went, her dad spawned the idea of turning their home into a hotel. A sort of safe heaven and paradise for all monsters who wishes to find a place where no humans could discover them, and thus, Hotel Transylvania was born!
At first, spending her life within a hotel was a life that Mavis enjoyed. She had many family and family friends surrounding her as they moved into the hotel to live with her and her dad alongside with familiarizing herself with all the guests who are constantly coming and going. Yet, as okay as Mavis was, decades and decades started to pass by and the more lonely Mavis felt. Yes, she had other monsters who loved and cared for her, but she hardly had many friends who were her age and any that she was able to make, they eventually left leaving Mavis all alone again. To say the least, she started to grow lonely in her eternal life within the hotel.
Her loneliness soon transferred into curiosity of the outside world. Don’t get Mavis wrong, she believed her dad when he told her that humans were dangerous, but as the years went by, she couldn’t help but wonder if anything has changed? So when Mavis was around 82 years old, she began to secretly learn as much as she could about humans and the outside world!
It had been difficult for her to do so at first as her dad had truly kept anything regarding the outside world from seeping into the hotel. The only thing from the outside world was an old postcard of Hawaii that belonged to her mom she found within her dad’s bedroom. Apparently Hawaii was the place where her parents met and after finding that out, Mavis kept that postcard near and dear. But Mavis was eventually able to steal a phone by tricking one of the zombie bellhops to swipe one for her. And after fiddling with it for a good while, she was able to learn how to use it, clicking on one of the many bubbly squares until one of them popped up with a white page that allowed her to search things up, and that is exactly what Mavis did. She searched, and was able to find out that humans didn’t hate monsters anymore! They celebrated them instead!
For the next couple of years, Mavis’s curiosity soon turned into fascination over the outside world and the desire of wanting to explore it soon conspired. She was 88 years old when she told her dad that she wanted to travel the world, much to his dismay, but her dad told her that it was still dangerous for her to do so. Mavis persisted though, and eventually, her dad promised her that once she turned 118 years old, he would allow her to leave the hotel and go out to see the world like every adult monster who comes in and out of the hotel does.
Thirty years later and Mavis is finally 118 years old. She had her bag packed, her mom’s “Haweewee” postcard packed away, and she was hyped up to finally getting the chance to explore! Even her dad seemed okay with her leaving, and once he gave her the okay, Mavis transformed into a bat and was out the hotel. There, she flew to the nearest human village she could find, which happened to be a small town not too far from the hotel. There, Mavis landed and attempted to greet the ‘humans’, only to find herself attacked by garlic and fire by them, terrifying her into flying back home. Filled with tears and heartbreak, she expressed to her dad how he was right, that humans and the outside world was dangerous! And that she never wanted to go out there again!
Mavis kept her word, choosing to focus herself in helping her dad with the hotel, while also distracting herself from the experience she had. But deep down, Mavis was still distraught by what happened, to the point where it showed within her work and her dad even noticing that his daughter wasn’t as bubbly and excitable as she typically is. Her dad must’ve not liked seeing her so down, as he soon came clean to the fact that what happened was by actual humans, but rather a ploy he came up with in by dressing up the zombies and making them pretend to act like humans in order to scare her. To say that Mavis had been angry by the news was an understatement, as she was furious! It had hurt Mavis that he had done this to her and in order to make things up to her, her dad decided to actually honor his word and give his daughter a second and genuine attempt at exploring the outside world. And he knew the perfect place Mavis could go to for that— Walt Grove.
Though her dad found Walt to be the perfect place Mavis could go to, she couldn’t just instantly leave for it without any preparations as there was one huge downside to the place and that was how it’s filled with magic. Vampires were attracted to magical blood. More so than regular human blood, and living within the hotel most of her life, Mavis didn’t know how to contain herself from craving it or being tempted by it, and so her dad had to train her to learn how to restrain. It took a few years before they felt like she was fully ready, but Mavis wasn’t about to let something like desiring magical blood keep her from exploring the outside world the way she wanted to. And so when they felt like she truly was ready, truly and utterly sure, Mavis finally headed out to Walt Grove where she would open and run her own Hotel Transylvania.
Though Mavis can be excitable, she prioritized in making sure no one discover that she was a vampire nor letting it out within the entire town that monsters were resigning within her hotel. Only those she felt were trustworthy enough knew, but even then it was to an extent especially when there apparently were monster hunters residing in Walt. Most who got to know her, found Mavis to either be a normal human and to the very few who somehow saw her using her powers, they would think she was “magical” like many. And if anyone became even more suspicious about her and the hotel, Mavis knew a witch who could aid in silencing them. Anything to keep the monster hunters from getting too close, but she will admit, it was hard at times, but she made a promise to protect them and a dracula never dishonor their word!
She had a lot of expectations when she first came to Walt, but one of them hadn’t been finding her Zing! See, even as a baby bat, Mavis knew the importance of finding ones Zing! Her parents were each other’s Zings and that is how they fell in love with one another, but never in Mavis’s immortal life did she think that a human would be hers! But enter Johnny, a sweet, chill, and accepting human who Mavis instantly Zinged with the moment her eyes connected with his. It was a thrilling moment for Mavis, but also a terrifying one as she realized that as open to the human world her dad was trying to be, she knew he wouldn’t be as open to having his daughter fall for a human! Would it even work? Mavis didn’t know, and as much as she wishes to be around Johnny as much as she can, she also decided to keep a certain distance from him. Enough where her lovesick brain wouldn’t distract her from other important things, but not so much where she doesn’t have a friendship with him. Johnny was her Zing after all, Mavis needed him in her life regardless of whether her dad would accept him or not.
Whenever she drinks blood from an animal, she never drinks too much in order to kill them. Just enough in order to sustain herself which if she drinks enough, she can go days and maybe even weeks without getting hungry again or feeling drained. She also hates drinking blood from an animal that is close to death but will do so if she has no other choice. That being said, the longer she goes without drinking blood, the weaker Mavis becomes.
As a vampire and the daughter of the most powerful vampire ever, Mavis has many powers that she could use when necessary. She can transform into a bat, can fly (both as herself and as a bat), has super strength, can walk on walks, can telekinesis, hypnosis, night vision, and so much more. And to add, what makes magical blood so enchanting to vampires is because drinking it grants the vampire the whatever magical ability the magical being holds. So if Mavis were to drink magical blood, that means she could become even more powerful than she already is.
Mavis instantly knows when a person is magical through their scent. Typically, she doesn’t let it be known that she knows, preferring for the other to tell her instead if they want to, but it’s really hard to hide the truth to her since she already has to resist temptation whenever she’s around a magical being. Yet the more powerful the magical blood is, the more tempting it is for her to want to drunk it and thus makes it harder for her to resist.
There’s a stigma and lie when it comes to vampires and garlic as Mavis won’t die if she consumes garlic. It would make her throat swell up and her face blotches, but it won’t kill her if she consumes it. However, she prefers not to and would say she is severely allergic to it whenever someone offers to give her something with garlic on it
Has a huge love for slurpees ever since the first time she got to try one of them and tries to have one of a different flavor at least once a week because she loves them that much. She loves slurpees so much, they even surpassed her former favorite thing, scream cheese but also Mavis still likes eating that too.
Is heavily into rock music and occasionally whenever the mood calls for it, Mavis would start blasting it throughout the hotel.
A hopeless romantic who lives for other people’s romance since she is not fully capable in having her’s. Mavis is by far one of the most supportive people anyone would know and is even a little naive and gullible when it comes to general dating and romance, as many times she would believe that those who are dating are with their Zing’s or that they should court them before officially asking them out.
She is really good at sewing as she learned how to after one of the werewolf pups chewed her cap into threads.
Has a feminine goth style to her. Mavis doesn’t dress in complete dark clothing like she use to back when she was younger, but for the most part, you can find her sporting one piece of dark clothing or something containing mesh/sheer or stripes on it.
In her downtime, she likes to take random pictures of things that catches her interests. And they aren’t even good pictures either, just quick snap pics for her to remember by and squeal over.
She loves walking up super early just to see the sunrise. Ever since her dad gave her that special sunscreen that allowed her to be out in the sun and seen in photos/mirrors, Mavis had found that she has taken a liking to sunrises as it turns out to be one of the most incredible things she has ever witnessed. Even now, she finds them so enthralling to her and doesn’t mind waking up solely to watch as the sun goes up.
Get’s excited and fascinated over the littlest and newest human related thing she does as even now, Mavis doesn’t know everything about the human world and is discovering as the days go by.
Mavis is fiercely protective of her loved ones and will do anything to keep them safe, even if she has to do so similarly to how her dad use to protect her or if she has to use her powers to do so.
Sometimes Mavis wishes she didn’t desired magical blood so much as she finds the concept of humans being magical very enchanting to her and would like to learn more if she could!
