"Hey, I heard you needed a consult?" Harper asked. "A child you think might have a magical disease? Can you give me the run down?"
"Harp... I'm so sorry," she looked to her best friend with concern. "You realize none of this is your fault nor your responsibility, right? They are grown adults. They should be settling this between themselves instead of bringing you into their problems like this."
"Not entirely sure they know how to do that," Harper said with a sigh. She ran her hands through her hair. "Sorry I made you feel like you did something for a minute. We should go do something. Maybe peruse a bookstore. There's this new bookstore with a cafe included that I saw pop up in Muggle London, I heard they have pretty good tea."
"Is there... is there anything I can do?" Lucy asked, trying to assess the situation. She was just looking out for her best friend. "I didn't say something wrong, did I, Harp?"
"No, no, it's not you. It's my Mum and Dad. There fighting again. My Dad put me in the middle of it, like always, I need to stop trying to fix it. I'm sorry, I should just put my phone away."
"Are you sure about that?" she reached out to take Harper's hand into hers. "Do you want to talk to me? What's going on?"
"My Mum is just... I don't know. She's being how she always is around this time," Harper said. "Her and my Dad get at it sometimes because of how she gets and I try to fix things. I don't know why, it always goes bad for me. I don't know why I'm even surprised, really."
"I'm good, I'm good," Harper said to the other. "I just was not expecting that. I'm more baffled than anything. I'll be good in a minute."
"That's important. I mean let's be so real here, I think if you really had an issue it'd be for good reason. So I think it's just a testament to those around you choosing the right people and all of that. "It can be. But it's also so wonderful to be certain as to where we stand with you," Lucy pointed out when her best friend complained about being someone who was incredibly easy to read. "I personally prefer knowing how you're feeling but then again it's my job to look out and care for you so I suppose it just makes it easier," she considered with a little laugh.
"Yeah, but I also feel like I try to see the best in people when maybe I shouldn't, so it can steer everything in the wrong direction," Harper mentioned.
"You're right about that," Arya laughed in return. "But we should definitely make the most of this evening and these extravagant dresses. Yours certainly has more wow-factor and deserves to be shown off on that dance floor."
“Honestly, I’ll probably take up most of the dance floor with the size of this dress,” she replied with a laugh. “I hope people enjoy pink tulle.”
"That was a great costume, even if I was very unfamiliar with the original source material," Gabe chuckled softly. "But yeah, that makes sense. Although what do you do with the dress after Halloween? Is it a rental? Do you donate it? I can't help but wonder," he added with another snort.
“One of these days, we’re going to have a Barbie movie marathon. I would say just the Princess and the Pauper, but I insist on getting you to watch at least the 12 Dancing Princesses also. That one is so good,” Harper replied. “I bought this, but I suppose I could donate it. I’m sure there’s someone who might wear it to one of the balls around here, maybe a Hogwarts student for the New Years Ball at the castle."
"Can I convince you to join me out on the dance floor?" Arya asked with a smile, holding out a hand to the blonde. "They're actually playing some great music. We should make the most of it."
@hcrperleeclcrk
"Oh baby, it won't take much convincing," Harper replied with a small laugh. "Though if we're playing our parts, it might take more convincing to you to dance than me," she joked.
"You look beautiful, Harp. And very sparkly," he complimented, chuckling a little to himself as he watched light reflect off of the details of Harper's gown. "Is it easy to navigate in that dress?"
@hcrperleeclcrk
"Thank you," Harper said, very chipper. "I've dealt with worse I feel like. There was that year Lucy and I went as the Princess and the Pauper and those dresses were also pretty big, so I'm kinda used to it. This just had like, a lot more tulle."
"And you were so right to do that. I do love her," Gabriel admitted, watching the dog zoom around before returning to them and continuing that cycle in an excited manner. "I almost wish we had a dog running around the apartment but neither of us are home enough for that to be fair to the dog," he considered with a sad little frown. "I love that we can spend the afternoon with her though," he said, cooing as he reached down to scratch underneath the dog's chin. "What's her name?"
Harper let out a small laugh in agreement. "Yeah, maybe one of us should get a job that you can bring a dog daily, that way we can get one," she replied. "Her name's Petunia."
"Definitely. There's so many paths we could go down and so many lives we could live. It can make you nostalgic for something you may never have but it also puts into perspective what you do. I'm so grateful to have the life I do. It's not perfect but for what I need? It's the closest I'll ever come to perfection," Arya replied warmly. When Harper asked if she thought they'd met in other lifetimes, she smiled at that. "I like to think so. I find it hard to imagine I wouldn't be pulled to you in every universe. What do you think?"
"I'd like to say so," Harper replied with a nod. "Like we're fated or something." Harper intertwined their fingers. "I don't think life is supposed to be perfect, how else would we grow as people?"
"On occasion," she admitted, nodding a little at Harper's question. "But I try not to dwell on it too much. I mean... there's a universe where I never left Iran. Where my birthmother survived and was able to raise me there. Where I was never adopted and brought to the UK. I'm sure it would've still been wonderful but... I love the life I have today. I love my moms. I love my friends. I love you. And I feel very lucky that things played out in my life the way that they did."
"Like sometimes I wonder how different life would be if Jane survived and we never moved out of Glasgow, or if I never got the bad end of the stick with my kidneys and ended up in Quidditch instead of being a healer. She would've been 19 today," she replied. Harper didn't talk much about her little sister, Harper loved Jane, but her parents locked that part away when they moved, and a part of Harper did too. "It's so weird how life could go in so many different ways, y'know? But I am glad I met you, and our lives crossed paths. I don't know what life would've been like if I never fell in love with you, and I don't think I'd want to imagine it. Although, do you think like if other lifetimes we may have crossed paths somehow?"
"How sweet," Gabe cooed softly, having crouched down to greet the dog that had barreled excitedly towards him. He gave the canine a good scratch behind the ears, looking up to the other, "Very friendly too," he chuckled. "Are they yours?"
"Yes, I'm soft-launching to you that I'm bringing home a dog," Harper said, sarcastically with a small laugh. She could never keep a straight face when she was being sarcastic. "It's a co-workers, she's pulling a 24 hour today and her dog-sitter bailed, so I said I'd take this little one for a walk and play with her for a bit. I figured we'd come see you, because I knew you'd love her."
"Yeah of course," Lucy nodded in agreement at the suggestion. They often baked up a storm together so what was adding a few more? "That's a great idea, Harp," she acknowledged. "I can't say I know her very well. But I'm glad you like her. And I'm sure Gabe does too. I know how much he values your opinion," she mentioned. "That's true. I guess he doesn't have a single type to boil it down to."
"I feel like it's very hard for me to hate anyone Gabe is involved with, or any of my friends' significant others really. As long as they're happy, I approve. I feel like the only way I wouldn't like them is if they were like a horrible person, like putting them in danger, or hurting them in anyway. Like I'll even let someone who's not necessarily nice all the time be okay, if they were okay with my friend, because I know you never know what people go through and have went through in their lives. I'm just glad he has someone who cares like that for him again, and I'm protective of him, but he's a big boy and even if I didn't like them, it doesn't matter because it's his life. I would just feel bad if that ever happened, which doesn't seem like it will with Natalya, because you know I can't hide how I feel about someone. It's a curse, people can read me like a book."

"We should bring some brownies to Gabe and the other bartenders when they're done," Harper suggested. "Maybe put a few in there for Natalya. I gotta admit she's pretty cool. Plus, she seems pretty edgy, which is funny because she feels like the complete opposite to Gabe's ex."
