his compliment–though she couldn’t determine if it was genuine or not–brought a smile to tiny’s face. she chuckled and stared at the screen of her computer, her distaste for her name blatantly on her face. she hated having to write her real name on papers, and was ever so grateful some southside teachers got news to riverdale high that PETRA HUGHES wanted to be called TINY. she had yet to yell at a teacher for calling her by her real name.
looking over at him and raising a brow at his question, tiny nearly scoffed. she was sure gryphons and gargoyles had originated from the teens of baxter high, and she wanted nothing to do with that.
“ what’s wrong with baxter high? isn’t that where that stupid game came from? you know, the one that’s getting teenagers KILLED? ”
her glare quickly faded, as did the venom in her tone. she licked her lips and looked towards the board at the front of the class, noting the requirements of the project down at the top of the document, just so they wouldn’t forget their parameters.
“ failed-failed. i’m in tenth grade chemistry, dude. but if you can help me pass it, i’d be ever grateful. i don’t really want to spend another year here, regardless of my earlier statement. ”
the nickname possibility was always intriguing as a solution to harvey’s own faint hatred for his name, but ultimately he wasn’t sure he was a nickname person. and he thought people weren’t supposed to choose their own. “where’d the name tiny come from?” he asked, hoping that question was safer than asking about her real name. “did you pick it or did someone else pick it for you?”
“not to my knowledge?” harvey didn’t mean to say it like a question, even though it kind of was one. she just seemed to be strangely confident about that assertion. harvey wasn’t any kind of expert on greendale, though. he had no idea there were witches or that he himself was descended from a long line of witch hunters. it wasn’t a legacy he had any interest in. “baxter high isn’t any more sinister than this place.”
“it’s weird that chemistry is a requirement here after the intro class,” he said, like that might make her feel better, somehow. it wasn’t her fault that she struggled with the subject, is what he meant to say. “do you plan to leave riverdale after graduation?”
