The eye is the organ that lets you see by detecting light and turning it into signals your brain understands as images.
At the front, the clear curved layer is the cornea. Light enters through it and then passes the pupil, which is the black circle in the center. The colored part around the pupil is the iris, and it controls how much light goes in by making the pupil bigger or smaller.
The lens changes shape to help you focus on things that are near or far. The light then travels to the back of the eye where the retina is. The retina has special cells called rods and cones. Rods help you see in low light, and cones help you see colors and fine details.
The retina sends signals through the optic nerve to the brain, and the brain turns those signals into the pictures you see.
The eye also has parts that protect and support it, like the eyelids, eyelashes, tears, and the white outer layer called the sclera. All these parts work together so you can see clearly. Learn more
