đ How does Han/Leia Appreciation Week work?
This year, the event will run from August 17th to August 23rd, and there are two prompts each day that creators can fulfill with: fanfic, fanart, gifsets, graphics, fanvids, headcanons, crafts, playlists, rec lists. Youâre encouraged to tag your posts with #hanleiaweek2026 so we can reblog them! After the week is over, weâll share a masterlist with links to the works.
You can show your appreciation in many ways; however, please keep in mind that it has to be a creation of yours of some sort (e.g. donât repost other peopleâs fanart, gifs, or unedited pictures; don't use AI). Rec lists should include a link to the original source both for fanfic and fanart (more on this after the cut).

đ Can I post my work to another site and share the link on Tumblr?
Yes! This is a good option for people who might want to create explicit art that could be taken down on Tumblr, write a long fic or multichapter, or make videos or playlists.
đ Does it have to be a new creation? Can I finish and post a WIP?
It has to be something that has never been posted anywhere else before, so finishing and sharing a WIP is okay! If it doesnât fit any of the prompts, you can share it on Free Day.
đ Is this event open to all ratings?
Yes! Just remember to add a note at the top if your work is rated Mature or Explicit, as well as if it has any major trigger warnings, and use a âRead moreâ cut if youâre posting the whole work on Tumblr so everyone can safely browse through the entries.
đ Are there any length or quality requirements?
Thereâs no min. or max. length for fanfic or quality level for art, but please note that AI-generated works wonât be accepted. For gifsets, thereâs a minimum of two gifs (that must be made by you!). For playlists, thereâs a minimum of five songs. For rec lists of fic or fanart, thereâs also a minimum of five recs. Some more questions you might have about rec lists:
- How do I share someone elseâs art without posting a picture? You might post a thumbnail that crops a preview of the piece; if the piece has a title, you might use that; you might describe it; or you might say something like âthis piece by [artist]â, and link to the source.
- What if I found a fanart on Google? Try to find the original source using reverse search image.
- What if I canât still find it, can I just say âcredit to the artistâ? In that case, please just donât share the piece.
- What if I know the artist but donât have a link to the original source? Naming the artist and linking back to where you found it is okay, in that case.
đ Can I write for canon/Legends and include other pairings?
All canons, time periods, headcanons and AUs are welcome, and youâre allowed to include side pairings, except for R*eylo. However, keep in mind that this is a Han/Leia appreciation week - at the risk of sounding repetitive, works should focus on appreciating Han and Leiaâs relationship!
đ Whatâs the time zone for the event?
Please donât worry too much about time zones: when we say âdayâ, we always mean âwhenever that day is for you in your part of the worldâ - i.e.: if itâs Monday for you, you can post your work for the Monday prompt.

Han Solo wasnât sure what to do. The Falcon was at a bit of a standstill, inside an asteroid, believe it or not. It was a long story. Luke was away doing⌠something, and had taken R2 with him. Meanwhile C-3PO, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia were all working on different parts of the ship. He sighed. Might as well join them⌠Absentmindedly, Han entered an area of the ship he assumed nobody was working on. However, he had to pick the one area she was working on. He debated turning around before she noticed, but heâd have to face her sometime, so why not now? He and Leia had had a few arguments recently, and now was as good a time as ever to get back on track. He preferred to get along with her, though he treasured any time spent with the Princess. He stepped forward and reached around her for a lever, but she shoved him backwards. He frowned. Apparently she wasnât as eager to make up as he was.
âHey, Your Worship! I was only trying to help.â
She returned the frown. âWould you stop calling me that?â
Han nodded, unsure how to respond to that. âSure, Leia.â
Leia just rolled her eyes, not looking away from the panel she was fiddling with. âYou make it so difficult sometimesâŚâ
Han had to laugh. âI do. I really do.â He paused. âYou could be a little nicer, though,â he muttered.
The Princess smiled slightly at this. Han grinned. âCome on, admit it. Sometimes you think Iâm alright.â
Leia flinched, having gotten distracted enough to pinch her finger in the panel door. âOccasionally, maybe. When you arenât acting like a scoundrelâŚâ
Han raised an eyebrow. Normally, he would have been insulted, but somehow every attempt Leia made at insulting him ended up sounding more like a compliment. âScoundrel? Scoundrel? I like the sound of thatâŚâ
He took her hand and rubbed it, trying to make the pain go away. She stared at him for a few moments in surprise before muttering, âStop thatâŚâ
âStop what?â
âStop that. My hands are dirtyâŚâ
Han could tell that was her attempt at stopping this from going any further. He knew why, Luke had once told him that Leia preferred things simple. And so far, their relationship had been anything but simple. And the possibility that it might be taken up a notch was even less simple. âMy hands are dirty too. What are you afraid of?â
Leia blinked. âAfraid?â
He smiled. âYouâre tremblingâŚâ He could feel her hand quivering in his, presumably from a mixture of fear and excitement over⌠whatever this was. Han felt the same way, though heâd never admit it.
She shook her head, and Han noticed a slight pink tint to her cheeks that hadnât been there before. âIâm not tremblingâŚâ
âI think you like me because Iâm a scoundrel. You need more scoundrels in your life.â Han said this kind of thing all the time, why was speaking to Leia so daunting?
Leia shook her head again, and the pink in her cheeks darkened. âI happen to like nice men,â she whispered, though as she said this, a smile crept across her face and she inched closer. Hanâs heart was pounding. He couldnât look away from her. âIâm ânice menâŚââ
Leiaâs smile got even wider, and she couldnât hide it⌠or didnât want to hide it anymore. âNo⌠youâre not⌠youâreâŚâ
Han couldnât tell which one of them made the move. Perhaps both of them did. But before he could react, their lips were pressed together in a kiss. Leia pulled away, gazing at Han with those big beautiful brown eyes. âOkay, hotshot,â she murmured, putting her arms around him and kissing him again.

âŚCan you tell I really want to be Han in this scene? All joking aside, Iâm really proud of this one. It was simultaneously easy to write, because the scene already exists, and hard because I had to remember the dialogue (unless stuff is really iconic or cements itself into my brain somehow, I just remember it as a generic version of the line. Also, not gonna lie, I had to look this one up. I had the âHey, Your Worshipâ line as âEasy, Your Highnessâ in my head.) On top of that, how do you describe what theyâre doing here? Leia is just fiddling with a wall, Han reaches for some unknown thing, and then Leia hurts her hand but itâs not very obvious how. I hope I described it well enough. Finally, the âokay, hotshotâ comes from a deleted version of the scene where literally everything is the same except they kiss twice and she says that in between.

I was reading some threads and watching some videos calling out Han and Leia's romance being "creepy" and "predatory."
I feel like a lot of people don't understand these characters in context. Leia Organa is the definition of guarded. Sheâs a leader of the Rebellion, carrying the weight of an entire galaxy, and the grief of a destroyed planet on her shoulders. Sheâs smart, disciplined, constantly in control. Han Solo is a scoundrel with a very obvious crush. Heâs been flirting with Leia since ANH, teasing her not because heâs trying to manipulate her, but because he knows she feels something too and wonât admit it.
Their tension isnât manufactured or forced. Itâs built over the entire trilogy. Itâs layered with mutual respect, stubborn pride, and unresolved romantic/sexual tension. That kiss doesnât come out of nowhere. Itâs been simmering. And it finally boils over.
Han flirts, Leia deflects.
He steps closer; she doesnât move away.
He touches her hand; she doesnât pull back.
He leans in VERY slowly; she doesnât stop him.
And when he kisses her? She kisses him back and melts into it.
This is going to sound super weird, but if you go back and rewatch that kiss, watch Leia. Han leans in but Leia holds her lips out first and kisses him back.
AND LET'S NOT FORGET THAT EXTENDED CUT THAT WAS FUCKING DELETED WHERE LEIA SAYS "Okay, hotshot" AND FULL ON MAKES OUT WITH HIM.

People are overanalyzing that scene so much to the point where I have to overanalyze it now.

She tells him to stop calling her "your worship." He does. He says, "sure, Leia." He massages her hands and she tells him to stop after 10 seconds of him doing so. Now, let's be so for real. If Princess Leia Organa had really wanted him to stop, she would've yanked her hands from him and kicked his ass. In fact, are we forgetting what happened at the beginning of the scene? She literally pushed him away when he first came into the circuitry bay to help her.

Leia is now very close to Han and as she speaks, her voice becomes an excited whisper, a tone completely in opposition to her words.

He kisses her now, with slow, hot lips. He takes his time, as though he had forever, bending her body backward. She has never been kissed like this before, and it almost makes her faint. When he stops, she regains her breath and tries to work up some indignation, but finds it hard to talk.

Letâs be honest: weâre living in a post #MeToo world where people are (rightfully) more cautious about romantic media tropes. As someone who was unfortunately a victim of grooming and sexual harassment, I totally understand where people are coming from. But applying a modern TikTok lens to 1980s character-driven storytelling doesnât always work. In this case, it erases:
Leiaâs agency.
The mutual nature of the kiss.
The emotional arc leading up to that moment.
Heâs not forcing her. Heâs challenging her to be honest with herself. And when she is? The result is one of the most iconic, charged, and romantic scenes in cinematic history.
People resonate with this scene so much because it feels real. Itâs messy. Itâs two people whoâve been hurt, scared, and guarded their whole livesâfinally letting their walls crack for just one second.
As for my final thoughts, you donât have to ship Han and Leia or like Star Wars. You donât have to like every old-school movie kiss. But calling this scene creepy misses the emotional truth of whatâs happening, and frankly, does a disservice to both characters.
