Lucy groaned when she realized that Co was nearby. Of course it had to be Co. At this point, Lucy wasnât even sure she remembered what made them get on such bad terms with each other, but she definitely knew she hated the other girlâs attitude. âThe student services office is expanding mental health resources after⌠recent events,â she said. âIâm just doing my part. Trying to help out in a shitty situation. What are you doing here?â There was an harshness to her voice that rarely appeared.Â
âThatâs a rather helpful idea --- surprising, from you.â She noted, eyes moving to scan the flyer ---- Everettâs disappointment was a hard time, it was nice to see someone doing something. âWell, Lucy, I happen to go to school here and Iâm just on my way back from a meeting with a professor. Surely youâve done the same?â
lost in her thoughts, it took a moment for briallen to register what co was saying, and another moment to register that she was probably saying it to her. she was sure she could be forgiven her distraction. she had a lot on her mind, after all ; everyone did. âstudent government?â her interest was quickly peaked. student government sounded like an important position, and she assumed they must have at least a marginal amount of influence at the university. then again, she could mostly only guess. having been homeschooled her whole life, this was her first experience at an actual school. âitâs nice to meet you. iâm briallen nerys. and iâd love to hear a bit more about the student government positions?âÂ
was it annoying to go unnoticed? yes, but co did her best not to show it even as she felt the urge to frown at the other. âyes, student government ---- we work to represent the school and help it grow in a way that benefits all of the students,â she explained, rattling off the explanation just as she had over a dozen times before. âthe pleasure is mine! oh, here we have a pamphlet for all of the open positions ---- you find our social handles right here and this is our website,â she said, holding out a brightly colored pamphlet and pointing out the aforementioned information. âof course we have so many positions open right now. weâre looking for year reps, program reps, volunteers to work with our event committees. basically everything, so we should get a little more specific. what do you think your strengths are?â
Thought she wasnât much of a conversationalist to begin with, ever since whatever that was that happened on Saturday, Imogen had adopted a policy of âjust keep movingâ. She walked quickly around campus with her headphones in, just trying to get through her day without having any eyes on her. If things were gonna so south for all the villains and their kids, it was best to seem as unassuming as possible. She wasnât one to fake who she was, but she could do that. Of course, it was hard to stay in her lane when she heard someone calling out to her. Pulling out her headphones, Imogen turned around and came face-to-face with a princess. âPaid, huh?â Imogen asked, raising an eyebrow. Jobs were hard to come by without a good resume, and she did need the money. However, she also had to focus on her studies. âHow much work are the positions, usually?â
good, she had gotten someoneâs attention beyond getting told to go away --- that definitely had to count for something. âwell yes, and the amount of work varies depending on which position, obviously.â picking up one of the job offering sheets, she held it out to the other for a second before leaning in slightly. she continued, âand you know, if youâre looking for a job that gives you the most for your effort --- iâd suggest double checking that your classes arenât still looking for note-takers. get paid for what youâre already doing, and the money isnât bad considering. i think theyâre offering a hundred dollars a week this semester, but youâd have to check with student services.â
Jay was not a student government type person. Or really a club type person. And he didnât see himself as student vice president or whatever Colby was trying to sell. But nevertheless he turned around and gave her the famous Jay grin. âDo I look like iâd be interested in school government. No matter how amazing it would look on my resume?â Jay gave a cheeky grin, âWell I was hoping i could find a cute girls phone number or at least their name?âÂ
Colby resisted the urge to roll her eyes, reminding herself that even the least serious people have things to drive them to action. And then he asked about getting a cute girlâs number and the rolled eyes arrived. âThat depends, what is your definition of cute girl --- are you capable of asking for someone number. Why havenât you considered researching which club has the most female attendees, and joining that one?â
honestly the stress of it all was starting to drive co mad, it had been bad enough before the disappearance but with a blink of the eye her family devolved back into arguments. hissing out a sigh, she shook her head as she straightened her back and stood straight up at the booth she had set up. âoh hello,â she called out, hoping to catch at least one personâs attention before continuing, âhave you looked into the positions that the student government is offering this year? many of them are paid and those that arenât, well they look absolutely wonderful on a resume.â it was a practiced question, almost as practiced as the smile that spread across her lips. âor maybe youâre more interested in the events and other services, either way make sure you know your representatives. iâm colby white, treasurer for the student government --- can i help you find something today?â
âIâm done!â Lucy said, exhausted, after tacking up what must have been her hundredth poster that day on one of Auradon Royal Universityâs many bulletin boards. The Student Services offices had extended their hours for drop-in mental health counseling hours after the whole television feed incident, and as a royal well-known for advocating mental health resources (among other things), Lucy felt it was her duty to around and help hang up posters to advertise the news. Personally, she knew that there was a lot that needed to be fixed about ARUâs mental health resources, but this was better than nothing. âYâall better go to this!â she shouted at no one in particular. âOr else my afternoon was wasted!â
heels clicked against the solid floor, sharply announcing coâs presence as they seemed to echo for a moment as she came to a stop just behind lucy. âyou hope we come to what, exactly dear?â there was an edge of condescension mixed in with her voice as she added, âif you wish to send a message, it helps to be concise sure, but details matter.â the smile that slid across her face was sweet, almost sickeningly so.
( ARIANA GRANDE || TWENTY-ONE || CIS FEMALE || SHE/HER ) COLBY âCOâ WHITE is the child of SNOW WHITE & PRINCE CHARMING. theyâre currently a SENIOR & PUBLIC RELATIONS MAJOR at auradon royal university, where theyâre described by friends as CHARISMATIC. however, others sometimes complain that theyâre DISTANT. maybe thatâs why theyâre called the PHILOPHOBE around campus. ( DREW || TWENTY-ONE || HE/HIM || EST )Â
backstory:
the oldest of the white children, colby grew up feeling skeptical of her parentsâ happily ever after â sure, she knew logically that they were soulmates and that they loved each other but as she grew older, she came to wonder if maybe at some point love wasnât enough. they did a good job of hiding their arguments but the issue was obvious, at least to co.
you see, snow white had never supported the isle. well aware of what it felt like to be trapped, to be afraid, she didnât want that for anyone even the villains. meanwhile, all her husband could ever see was the fear, the fear that it would all happen again and theyâd have no control. it was always a point of contention for the pair, and on coâs fathers side they were very vocal about their disapproval for anyone who argued against the isle. nonetheless, the pair smiled through the pain, determined to build their own happily ever after.
but hereâs where the problem lay: colby, even as a young child hungered for knowledge with little regard for the source. book after book devoured before being returned to the shelves, small hands left burnt after they reached out into the ever alluring flame in the fireplace. and though she never said, snow white was reminded of her step-mother â a talented, intelligent woman with a mind for manipulation and magic. of course, snow white didnât need to say it because others were happy to say it for her.Â
the first time that someone drew the connection aloud was at a royal gathering that the whiteâs were hosting â co can remember the way the room fell silent as soon as the words left her grandmotherâs lips, can remember the book that fell to the floor with a thud as she froze. and she has vowed to never feel as powerless as she did in that moment, wanting nothing more than to feel in control of her own image.
in doing so, she shoved her helplessness onto her family who watched as she changed, growing colder and less willing to share the passions that drove her. watched as she turned down opportunities to bond with her peers as she hunched over books, watched as she landed herself in trouble when found studying forbidden materials. they watched as she became everything they had never thought that she was, growing distant from her more and more each moment. havenât you heard? hurt people hurt people.Â
thatâs not to say that she abandoned everything in her ravenous search for knowledge, as that would be untrue. she threw herself into tennis, becoming well-known among the upper echelons for a prowess that very few could match â quick reflexes and good strategy, she dismissed, once again refusing the compliments from the same people that had accepted what she viewed as a cruel comparison. Â
since the barrier was broken:
the amount of hypocrisy in her family is enough to make her lose it, honestly. thereâs something about listening to the same people that condemned the villains now talk about how nice it is that theyâre getting a second chance. and itâs not a good something, either â a conclusion that snow white has apparently drawn for herself if the obvious tension and whispered arguments are anything to go by, anyway.
co is glad that the barrier is down, though she certainly thinks that should have been possible WITHOUT the whole debacle that happened. thatâs a thought she tends to keep to herself unless provoked however.Â
hereâs the thing; life is going well for co. and co refuses to let the arrival of some isle kids change that in any way. sheâs earned the role of tennis player and student government treasurer after years of hard work â- you can have that back over her dead body or at graduation. take your pick.Â
colby didnât know everett beyond the typical royal posturing, or at least thatâs what she might insist. they didnât have much in common and the age gap just pushed them further apart. the truth, well its complicated â he was one of the few royal kids who didnât bring up the comparison again and despite their differences, co had a soft spot for the younger royal that only a few were ever aware of.Â
personality:
at the best of times, co is prickly. she has a hard time letting people in, and the increased arguing that occurs each time she goes home isnât helping the situation.Â
if you ask the right questions, she can be a wealth of knowledge and actually quite helpful â the wrong question will get you an unimpressed look and the potential for an academic tirade of sorts. sheâs extremely tightly wound, most of the time.Â
willing to do things that are morally grey, though she doesnât seek to do them for âfunâ but if you can convince her that itâs somehow educational, youâll have someone whoâs willing to complete the task â regardless of the cost.Â
connections:
*note: all connections are open to all genders*
compulsory friends ( 0 / 1 ): they have nothing in common aside from their parents decided that they should have play dates as children, and while theyâve definitely grown apart over the years; even colby must admit that thereâs a bond there â something that canât be erased. she saves her fondest smiles for them, even on her darkest days, she has time for their troubles. but maybe she shouldnât.
family friends ( 0 / 2 ): their parents were friends and now theyâre expected to â maybe they get along or maybe not but theyâre all smiles when their parents are looking regardless.Â
ex-bff ( 0 / 1 ): they used to be attached at the hips and co canât put her finger on when it started to change but she can tell you exactly how it ended. nine simple words:Â âthey were right you are like the evil queenâ. and then it all burned, because sometimes the world ends in fire.Â
ex-love ( 0 / 1 ): and sometimes, the world ends in ice. maybe what they had, had never been love but it had been good. and then suddenly it was like they were edge of a cliff and co shut them out, left them in the cold rather than have to say goodbye, she couldnât bring herself to end it so she ghosted.Â
