it doesn't recall anything before. it doesn't know if there will be anything after. it simply is. there are no memories to go back on, no emotions it can process other than instinct.

an instinct it has yet to fully understand.

the pizzeria has been abandoned for a long time, longer than it has been in existence, it thinks. its fingers, a mottled gold, curl around the edge of a ball pit. the place of its birth, an artificial womb for something unnatural.

and it stares.

its eyes, piercing blue lock onto the shape moving outside of boarded up windows, merely a dark outline that hinted at the shape of a person. it tilts its head, the movement making a sound that was both wet and mechanical at the same time.

its ears twitch, pulling itself fully up to stand on the filthy tile floors.

Kris entered their footsteps still wandering in without much in the way of care. They turned to the door on the left heading deeper into the building which Kris assumed was a pizzeria of some kind. Pretty rundown from the looks of it, not that Kris cared. This was like a playground to them, so many fun things they could learn or do. Heck, they could even find something they could use to prank the other kids. They hadn't done a prank in a long time maybe it was time?

They soon found themelves within what looked like the remains of what appeared to be an arcade maybe? Some of the machines looked like they could still work. There was even a ball game. Kris picked up one of the discarded balls before throwing it into a hole. Kris was rather good at throwing so got it into the 100 point hole. Surprisingly a loud chime rang out in that moment make Kris jump somewhat. They hadn't expected the Ski Ball machine to still work.

"Ha...guess even I can get spooked..."

The teen has a small smile and they looked over some of the other machines for any others that might still be working.

Beyond anything else, Kris desired to escape from their own memories. They still remember the happier times and it hurts them to remember. That was why places that were left behind were preferable to reality. They could get lost in those old places forever. Anything was better than hearing their parents argue more, or getting caught in the middie of their father's desperate attempts to rekindle the marriage. Clinging on for dear life to everyone within the family despite the fact that their mother clearly pushed him away.

Kris didn't hate their father, but he was becoming more and more deluded as time went on. So desperate to reclaim what was lost to him. Kris was the same in a way, only they weren't so obvious about such wishes because people would look at you strange. Kris shuddered somewhat remembering the conspiracy board their dad had. Though, it had proved useful one time since they came here.

Not that Kris knew what this place was. Looked to be a cafe maybe? Or something else? Hard to tell, but once they went inside the place was a lot more interesting to behold. What secrets did this building house? What lay forgotten within its depths? Only time would tell.

Kris smirked somewhat already thinking up ways to help Susie.

child? child? they had to be a child. just like them. all of them. the sense of excitement and glee radiated like a beacon, a lighthouse in the dark that made them excited.

a new friend. new playmate. someone that could be like them.

a new face made itself know. from behind rustling purple curtains, decorated with stars and glitter, a snout pressed through the gaps with a low creakkkkkkk.

a fox was staring outwardly at them now. its eyes glowed a faint orange, one lid lazily hanging down over the false optic. it was still, frighteningly so- like a statue. but there was an awareness to the fox, a pirate judging by the faintly visible flipped up eyepatch.

slowly, slowly, its jaw moved. up. down. up. down.

"Y-YARRRGH! W-W-W-WELCOME TO PIRATE'S C-COVE! SW-SWASH BUCKLING ADVENTURES AWAIT!"

This was like a theme park! Though everything did look so worn down by time. Kris knew if their mother was here she would be so worried and wanting to clean everything. Kris certainly didn't care about it. They were having fun just seeing what lay around.

It was very much like old times only, there was no Noelle clinging onto Dess or Kris making scary faces or saying spooky things. All in good fun mind you, Kris wasn't mean about their scares because they always knew Noelle liked them. Dess had still gotten mad but that was expected! While Asriel meanwhile had been the kind dork he always was. Kris could imagine the other three with them now.

Once they saw the curtain along the snout there was even more excitement. Nothing could really scare Kris that much since they were someone who loved horror to death. They loved being the one who scared others, or played tricks, it was the best form for fun.

So long as no one got hurt.

"Wow...looks like fun..."

The pirate animatronic looked so cool. While also rundown but that added more charm if Kris was being honest. Once again their voice was rather hard to make out, rather raspy but still full of joy.

"I'm ready when you are...captain..."

Kris did a pirate salute towards the machine with no fear.

they stir for the first time in a long time. they never rest completely, not for long. lest the yellow rabbit chase them deep into the dredges of what remains of them.

five of them. five of them. a patchwork family of metal parts and rotting flesh. but she watches over them. she gave them life, now keeps them safe and happy. as happy as they can be with the way they are.

but now someone is inside their tomb, and they become hyperaware. the pitter-patter of feet on broken glass and debris. the faint light down the hall.

they are afraid. they feel fear. adult. it must be an adult. a bad adult, for all adults that were not mother, not father, are bad now.

click-click-click-click.

servos move in sync with one another. the bear turns his head as the figure passes, pinpricks of light like a living, breathing predator in the dark watching. watching.

freddy gabriel is always the watcher. the observer. learning how the threat functions.

but it isn't an adult. not a child either. a thing in-between. teenager. a teen.

strobe lights flare in an array of colors. static screams from overhead speakers before morphing into an old rock song. the velvet curtain ripples, like their unanimous confusion.

how to proceed with a not-adult and not-child?

Kris looked around somewhat concerned for a moment at the sudden introduction of rock music but they made no sound still. They also made sure to hide their eyes too within their long hair because they didn't like their eyes that much. Since the light from the phone was no longer needed Kris put it away once more. The lights coming on felt like a whole new world opened up for them. Kris wondered if there were any arcade games around that they could play. Totally not wondering why now there was power within a place that had been silent for so long.

Because this was fun, it allowed Kris to forget the emotions that plagued them. In this moment there was a small laugh that came out. Though, when they did laugh they held their throat. Like it hurt them to make much sound. They could talk but it was often in a whisper to spare them from that pain that came from something painful.

The silent teen wandered through the halls without much care still smiling to themselves as they looked around for the arcade. As well seeing what they could find, the pure sense of exploration was plain to see upon their expression. This was their little secret.

It all reeked of childish glee, a muted one but still the type of aura of someone who still had that sense of wonder deep down. Even if there wasn't any working arcade machines Kris was looking around for old abandoned junk they could maybe use to play with if they needed to.

The building was abandoned, left to rot in silent isolation for who knows how long. The sound of slow footsteps could be heard wandering around without a care. Kris always felt kinship with places such as this. Because they were the same deep down, not that their adoptive parents didn't try to make them happy. They were loved, they were given a home, but Kris still felt like they didn't belong.

The only one who had paid attention to them went off to college. And their adoptive parents were dealing with divorce proceedings due to what happened to her. Kris just wanted to run away from it all, to avoid all the confusing mess that adults were creating. Why did everything have to be so complicated? Kris didn't know.

They had been here before, but had never found a way inside. Most days the teen came here they ended up drawing upon the windows with crayons or simply enjoying the silence. It reminded them of better times when their brother was around along with the two girls Kris liked to think of as sisters. The four of them had always gone to spooky places together for fun. Now, only Kris remained, all alone.

However, today the teen found what looked like a broken window they could slip through to enter the building. Kris always had been a rather short person so being able to shift their way in proved easy. Course, it was very dark so Kris would pull out their cellphone before then turning on the flashlight within. Not once saying a word.

Looks like the moment to fully explore this place was open to Kris. That was exciting! Who knew what they might find? Maybe a cursed buriel ground? Or evil company secrets? Maybe a testing lab? Kris's mind went wild with imagination rather unlike what other people would think entering an abandoned building such as this one.

"I suppose that would be alright, as long as we're allowed of course. I prefer not to break any rules if I can help it." Sei wasn't one to break the rules, though no one was prefect and he too had broken a few small ones here and there. Who hasn't though? Though the goat was mostly curious just what questions Kris had to ask him. It seemed important and he did hope he could offer the answers Kris wanted. So off he went to follow them.

"This could be a prank. You can consider it their way of giving a warm welcome." Catti was sure Kris had to of pranked everyone in the entire town at least once. "Try to show him some mercy Kris and don't go too hard on him. He's clearly soft like Noelle." It felt good talking to them like this again.

"Sure, no problem Susie!" Ral took a step back just as requested, staying perfectly still and at a reasonable distance. "I'm not sure what you mean. I haven't done anything to myself. Not that I'm aware of anyway. Do I have something on me?" He began looking over himself to see if something was off.

"Um, is now not a good time to talk?" Elnina asked gently as she walked over. She had been in charge of keeping an eye on Ralsei, or Ral since he's been going around saying to just call him that from now on. Though he managed to slip out of her sight for a second.

Kris led Sei and Catti to the old abandoned classroom where the first adventure had taken place. It was something Kris often wondered since despite being a Darkner Ralsei had been aware of this room within the Light World. The goat had asked Kris to bring the objects there back to the closet which led to bringing the Darkners of the Card Kingdom to Castle Town. Taking Sei to this place was meant to do two things. See if he recognised the room or reacted to its lack of objects in someway. Kris was checking Sei's reactions above all else.

It was hard to remember sometimes but Kris could be smart. Though, they did tend to play dumb because life was more fun that way. They had already spent way too long living within their own head up until now. They wanted to be like they used to be.

"I promise no pranks are coming...but Catti telling me to go easy? Didn't Noelle tell you? I never pull punches with my pranks even with her. She should have told you...of the many things...I've done..."

Yeah, Kris had often gone out of their way to scare Noelle a lot. Many of the stories of their youth were of Kris scaring the deer monster constantly with their antics. Dess often needed to give out punishments for Kris whenever it went too far at times.

"Yet, it wasn't to be mean...Noelle likes scary things..."

Yeah, better to get back to the point at hand. Kris opened the door to the empty room as they leaned against one of the walls all cool like. Kris was sure Catti wouldn't suspect anything was wrong since they didn't think she came into here very often. So the lack of objects strewn around all over the place shouldn't be strange to her.

"Ok...we can talk here now..."

"Heeeeeeee-huhhhh. . . Heeeeeeeeee-huhhhhh. . ." Jack grunted to himself in the empty school halls. Behind him, attached to a small thing of rope, appears to be a water cooler tank. . . Just, instead of water inside, it appears that all the water was frozen into one gigantic block of ice. While Water Coolers wouldn't be this hard to lug around for the little Snowman, the additional weight of it being frozen meant he had to basically drag it across the ground. The flared top of the tank had a light smattering of dirt, stuck leaves and grass blades.

The sound of footsteps instantly alerted Jackson, his beanie that he wears for casual wear nearly flying off of his head. Looking around for some place to hide the tank, he eventually landed on a locker that was slightly ajar, and sought to drag it. . . But when he spotted the tell-tale sign of a green-and-yellow sweater, Jack's body relaxed, metaphorical muscles untensing.

Though he and the Human never really interacted much, Jack knew that Kris was a troublemaker and mischief-haver by trade, so they'd probably be okay with his little prank he was about to pull.

"Heeeee-hahhh, Kris! You nearly made my heart melt outta my chest, ho!" He called out, before setting the Tank down. "But, since you're hee-here, ho, d'ya mind hee-helping, ho? I was gonna swap out the hee-cooler tank in the Teacher's Lounge, ho- Think about it; They try to get some water, but then. . . Hee-Nothing, ho!" The Snowman giggles to himself at the thought.

Kris smirks back, Jack's read of them was right. They weren't no snitch heck they did way more convoluted pranks in their younger days. Boy, did Kris miss those times so much. More than anything...

"Good effort...I like the vision...but needs slight adjustments...."

The drag marks across the floor made it perfectly clear who the culprit was. Anyone who saw them would find out Jack without any trouble. That was no good! A trickster should never be caught! That was how they got to do the best tricks! Only a master of chaos would know such dark truths of the world! One such as Kris!

Kris points to the marks on the floor showing Jack the error he made in his plan. But, Kris was willing to help, tricksters had to stick together. And Kris being here likely saved Jack from punishment.

"They'll find you out...you will need...clean up...but the marks are deep...they need something strong..."

Kris pulled out something from their pockets. A bathbomb Kris was a master of this object, knew how to make them, knew how to best use them, it was their goto when it came to pranks. They smiled evilly.

"However...if I...flush this within the toilets...the water will flood the floor erasing the evidence...and making more chaos..."

Still the cooler itself was still a problem...simply hiding it within the locker seemed too obvious. Kris then smiled to themselves.

"I know a better place to hide this too...I'll help...but...you'll owe me..."

Kris was being all spooky and scary in how their talked with their whispery voice. Then again, it seemed they always had trouble talking. But, despite this Kris was committed to the bit.

Susie didn’t give a damn about the classroom. She blew right past it, cutting straight for the supply closet like a battering ram with claws. Someone might’ve been yelling at her to stop, but the dragon wasn’t listening—nothing was slowing her down until she got her hands on Ralsei for whatever crap he’d pulled this time.

Yeah, the little folded airplane had landed in her lap. No way in hell she was gonna bother reading it. She had bigger priorities. Namely: goat boy face, meet fist.

Her landing out of the sprint wasn’t graceful—more of a bone-jarring drop to her knees before she shoved herself forward again, teeth bared. “RALSEI, YOU FUCK! WHERE ARE YOU?!”

Soon it was time for lunch, Sei happily putting away his text book into his backpack and pulled out his lunch. "Ah, okay." He made his way over to Kris's desk. "Sorry if I came off as rude to you and Susie. I'm just an avid learner and prefer to focus on my studies. I'll make sure to apologize to Susie as well." He disliked being rude after all, even if he was perhaps slightly in the right for doing so and still keep himself in control and was polite. It has him curious what they want to know.

"I am ready to go wherever you wish to answer your questions. It sounds like you want to keep them private. I doubt I could talk Catti into going elsewhere, though she said she'll keep a respectable distance so she can't overhear and seems trustworthy." Sei felt like he was good at getting a vibe for people.

"Well, maybe a little eavesdropping." Catti joked earning a small laugh from Sei. It was rare someone got her sense of humor. The only person who might get it would be Kris, though given how they were insistent on this being private she doubt it was the best time to make the joke. "I'll keep you two with eye shot, though that's about it." All about finding a good balance.

Ral turned from his current task of assisting the Ruddin who bolted at the sight of Susie upon seeing her look rather angry. The prince walking over to meet his friend. "Hello Susie, you seem stressed. Would you like a cake? Maybe a massage? Also, you can just call me Ral. Less words after all." He did hope his friend was okay.

Kris nods, honestly they weren't sure what to make of all this. On the one hand they understood why Susie was so mad at this turn of events. But, Kris supposed they were just better at pretending. Nothing was out of the ordinary for them as they were used to hiding things. Heck they were still hiding stuff from Susie even now.

Hard to think after how much of their heart they already opened to her. But, this was something they couldn't tell anyone. No one would understand, no one would get it, they had to lie, they needed to do what they were doing. So with that fake smile they looked to Sei.

Remember Kris...you promised...

"Its ok...can go to...the old abandoned classroom..."

That place held memories, though it was also the best place to talk where not many people would get in the way. Sure, Catti was around but Kris didn't mind that. Kris was smart enough to avoid drawing attention, heck no one ever noticed when that "thing" controlled them. Why should it become obvious now?

Kris got out of their seat, picked up their bad before slowly walking towards the old classroom. Not in any rush, they were perfectly find taking their sweet time. Though, Kris was worried about Susie deep down they hoped she was ok. More than anything they did dearly want to know what Sei being here meant. So they would do so.

"I used to...play there sometimes..."

A simple thing to say and true to some extent.

The Raven didn't seem bothered by the others eyes, or there strange way of speaking. If anything it was more comforting then Kris might imagine. He'd been around the old shamans to much, and enjoyed the strange and bizarre! But for Rei? his perception on the world was a stark contrast to many. For when you realize fate has you in it's claws there is little point in fighting against the tide.

" Some curses aren't meant to be broken... i doubt that's comforting but, some of us are gifted to see what may or will be. That's the fate of all Ravens... dreams filled with visions and prophecy... that's what my gran use to tell me anyway "

He chuckled softly and placed his hands into his pockets and his eyes turned to Kris. He could see them struggling to speak, and the markings on there throat. He wondered if there was some actual truth to what they said. What would the old Shaman say? probably to keep his beak out of things he couldn't understand. Regardless he wouldn't force Kris to speak more then he was willing to.

Instead he offered Kris a bottle of water from his backpack hoping that would help a little at least.

" Sure...why not, been meaning to see more of the town anyway. Might as well start with the creepy spots hehe... "

Kris nods before wandering off not waiting for the other to follow. Though, it did seem like they were still wanting the bird monster to follow them. As they went Kris would look around making sure no one was looking towards the two as they were going. But, then again Kris was sure no one would care not many tended to notice anyway.

Rei was new so likely didn't know the more secret ways to get through the town more quickly Kris seemed to want to share some of those pathways since they were purposefully going ways that made sure others didn't know he and Rei were going towards the church.

"Tricksters have to know...how to avoid detection..."

Kris tried to sound sinister, but they were out of practice a little since they hadn't done that too much since falling out of touch with Noelle. It was common for Kris to act spooky and strange for their own amusement. Those who knew them that well anyway.

"There's a bench there...has a lot of importance..."

After making their way through back streets and wooded trees they came to the graveyard. A very small one but still one regardless. It didn't look spooky in the slightest Kris had clearly been playing up the spooks somewhat for Rei. But the letdown was clearly a trick.

"Sorry...hehe...turns out its not spooky afterall..."
