For Never Was A Story of More Woe...

Scott understood, too. Stiles hadnāt wanted to lie.And it was possible Allison wanted to tell Scott herself. He remembered fearing his motherās reaction, dreading the day she realized her son could transform into a clawed, sharp-toothed thing. Heād avoided it. And in the end,it took someone shooting him in front of her for him to reveal himself. He hadnāt wanted her to find out that way. Maybe not even at all. Was that a possibility here? āIf you didnāt want me to knowāā But why would that be? Isaac had found out before he did. Did she think he would try to get in between them? He wouldnāt have. She was alive and that was more important than anything else. And he had enough to worry about between what was going on Topside, work, college and half of the people he cared about being stuck down here. Stiles knew, but heād been down here more often. Maybe that was it? She couldnāt go Topside? It didnāt matter why. Stiles shouldnāt have done it like this. Why make something difficult even harder? Why shove her into this situation? āāor if you needed more time, it shouldāve been your choice. At least, you wouldāve been ready.ā
Allison shook her head in response when he began to speak again,Ā āNo - I justā¦ā She shrugged,Ā āI canāt go topside really, itās.. dangerous.ā But it was more than that - she hadnāt wanted to hurt him again. Heād been through the motions of grief, heād moved on and he had his own life now, and that was what she had wanted - for them to move on and forget her. So she could do her job and keep them safe.Ā
āI wonāt be ready for any of this ever,ā Allison admitted,Ā āSeeing all of you angry and hurt, itās not what I wanted. If I could have avoided it at all, I would have.ā She looked down at her hands, lips thinning as she pressed them together. Perhaps she could have avoided it, but if sheād not gone with her uncle, she had a feeling he would have targeted her friends much harder than he would have - would have seen them as a greater threat if sheād still be involved with them.
Traveling Topside was risky for her. And he didnāt venture down here often. But this was resurrection, this was restoring someone they believed irretrievably lost. The solution wouldāve simple. ā I couldāve come here.ā He was here now simply because Stiles said it was important. It was. It was her. Allison stated she never would be ready. āMaybe not, but you wouldnāt have been forced into this situation.Iāve never wanted to force you into anything.ā Even when heād been convinced they would be together in the end, heād been willing to wait. It was different between them nowāfor multiple reasonsābut She hadnāt wanted to see them angry and hurt? Or to hurt them again? āā¦the only way to avoid that would be not telling us.ā How did he want to say this? āThe other day, I realized youād been gone longer than how long Iād known you. And I justāit wasnāt fair.Itāā Still hurt. This wasnāt coming out the way he wanted. āāwhat I mean is what Iām feeling right now itās better than believing that. Anything involving you being real and alive is.ā

āI wish I had the luxury of doing that, Iād love some good coffee right about now.āĀ
āIāll see if I can bring some next time. Itās too bad I canāt take peopleās coffee orders in the morning⦠That would be suspicious. Not exactly a lot of office buildings I could pretend to work at around hereā¦ā

ā You gave him that much money? Good for him, cheating out someone as nice as you for that much cash. ā
āI really needed a part for my motorcycle.Supply and demand. The kidās going to ace econ.ā
āDo you think applying for veterinary schools is worth it? Maybe I shouldnāt waste my time.ā Pavlov devices. Handicaps. He wouldn't voice those concerns up here--he shouldn't even know about what was affecting Cora.

Kara pointed out even little thing were harmful. āTrue.ā A word from a sociology class came to mind: micro-aggression. Though, he wondered if this counted as more than that.He kept his gaze on Kara. His outburst earlier had proved the teens were affecting his concentration. He didnāt intend to give them more fuel. Karaās disapproval had the welcome effect of one of the teens turning off their annoy supernaturals app. He counted three sources of the sound now. If she worked with the Underground, should Kara even be up here? He supposed either she was human or unregistered. He didnāt see a handicap or sense the electric hum some of the devices gave off.āI like learning. Not sure about studying. That partās more trying to memorize things. Iām trying to become a veterinarian. Eventually.ā If theyād even admit him to veterinary school.Or if he hadnāt been forced Underground by then. Kara chose her words with care. Scott was definitely paying attention now. Sheād helped Stiles remove his handicap.āA successful collaboration with unintended consequences. He shouldāve told me.ā Scott sighed. But they had more pressing issues to worry about now: Cora was acting strange āTopside of all placesāand the previously mysterious Pariah had turned himself over in place of his brother.āAny progress on the more urgent project? I understand if youād rather wait until everything is in place.ā They were Topside. If she couldnāt talk about it, heād understand.
Kara let out a soft sigh when Scott mentioned that he ā Stiles, obviously ā shouldāve told him.Ā āI agree,ā was her soft reply,Ā āBut ā it was not my place to tell his friends about his decision. It was only my place to make sure that everything went without error.ā Without any disaster. Without Stiles dying ā or worse. She did her part, but he did agree with the alpha that Stiles shouldāve at least told the people who cared the most about him what he planned to do. She was convinced that the only reason Lydia had known was because she had to know ā being part of it. Stiles probably would have kept it from her as well if she was not involved. She then hummed at the next question, a frown forming on her lips as she tried to think of the best way to phrase it without drawing attention to herself ā or what she was saying from ears that shouldnāt be listening.Ā āItās in the works,ā she finally said, voice soft but still casual to not sound overly suspicious.Ā āHe has a friend on an opposing project that I believe can help us.ā
āThank you."The news that Stiles was free of his handicap had been welcome and good even if the joy was short-lived.Cora's betrayal and the Sheriff held hostage had followed quickly.Kara said it hadn't been her place to tell Stiles' friends. "Iām not blaming you. If he wanted to tell me, he would have.ā It seemed a lot of that was going around. Allison about ādying.ā Stiles about removing his handicap. Sheriff Stilinski about Stuart. Stuart about turning himself in for Stiles. Some of it was connected to temporarily sparing him or others from pain or worry, but it lead to other problems. What if something had happened to Allison before Stiles tricked them into confronting each other? What if Lydia and Kara's project had gone wrong? Scott would've been even more blind-sided. And The Pariah's decision? It had complicated an already tangled problem. He risked exposing himself and what if they didn't accept him as Stiles? Who knew what was happening to him? And how would any of this affect the Sheriff? Kara's words were measured here, too. Scott arched a brow at the new piece of information. She could only mean Stuart's friend. Stiles didn't know anyone on the other side. "If you need more people to work on it...Let me know. "

@notyourwar Scott pulled his motorcycle into the McCall home driveway. A car with white plates was idling in front.Scott removed his helmet. He suspected someone would come knocking after Stuart was rescued. Suits. Government suits. They asked him, in an oh-so-official way for him to accompany them. Run? Fight? Heād look guilty. Go with them? He didnāt know where theyād be taking him. His first impulse was texting Stiles, but he couldnāt do that. Not with this phone anyway. He couldnāt text someone Underground with the one in his pocket. Sheriff? He didnāt want to make his precarious situation worse. It was obvious. And he wondered why he hadnāt thought of her first. He scrolled to āMomā in his contacts list and texted her: Canāt make dinner tonight. Somethingās come up. They hadnāt planned on having dinner together anywayāshe had night shift tonight. He hoped that would be enough of a hint. Breaking someone out of a government facility. Illegal. Associating with unregistered individuals and Le ChassĆ©. Illegal. But how would they know about any of that? They hopefully just wanted to ask questions. Did he still have rights? He was registered. He had a part-time,legal job, and he no longer worked under a known leader of a rebellion.(Okay, he did work for someone who had professionally,as in the veterinary profession side, worked with Deaton, but it was some distance. ) And he hadnāt taken part in the riot. It was thin, but heād known it would be when he decided on the collar. He didnāt have a plan. But the choice that made him look the least guilty was to act offended and go with them.

Scott attempted sitting up a little straighter in his chair. āShock collar? Iāve had worse. Iāll be fine.ā He knew that wasnāt what she meant, but she was already dreading peopleās reactions. Sheād put off telling him. But whoād want to relive the moment they almost died? Her knowing how he felt about this wasnāt important right now. āTell him.Iām sure your dad would rather feel whatever it is heāll feel than mourn you. Heās missed you.ā Knowing she was alive hurt a hell of a lot less than the alternative. āWe all have.ā She moved the chair and the metallic scrape of the chair legs moving somehow made this seem more real. Or maybe his senses not zeroed in on just her anymore made it more real. But what would convince him? He didnāt know. She confirmed Stiles hadnāt told her either. āIāll have to talk to him about that. If you werenāt ready to tell meā¦And Iām sorry about the-the-leaping thing.ā It hadnāt been his best moment.
Allison nodded minutely at his words, she knew that she would tell her dad - but she also knew that it was a matter of time before she was outed by the government in one way or another as alive for having escaped from the hunters. She wanted to do it before then - but everytime she saw him, she found herself hiding for the crippling fear of having him so angry at her, like Isaac.
A shrug lifted her shoulderās just slightly in response to Scottās apology,Ā āI think we were both a little surprised,ā She looked down at her hands, leaning back against the back of the chair.Ā āStiles just wanted to make sure you knew,ā Allison finally spoke after a long pause,Ā āI understand why he did it.ā

āKaraās looking for people. You canāt go alone. Magic gives you an edge but youāre out of practiceā we donāt need both of you captured. And Iād go with you right now butāā He wouldnāt be much help in a fight. āIām not sure how helpful that would be either. Besides, you have a connection right? You know heās alive.ā Scott was assuming here but his other reasons seemed inadequate.
āWhoās going to stop me?ā Stiles countered, though he knew that he wasnāt entirely serious. It would be reckless to go alone, especially for him. He wasnāt even sure yet if whoever had Stuart had figured out that he wasnāt Stiles. If he went alone and got caught, he could get his brother into even more trouble, and that was the last thing he wanted.
āIā¦I donāt know,ā Stiles said softly, shaking his head and giving an honest shrug of his shoulders.Ā āI donāt know how it works. I donāt know if itās based on proximity, and thatās why I never felt it before, or if it got triggered when we finally met in person.ā Still, Scott was probably right. Stiles was pretty sure that he would have felt something if Stuart had been killed, given the strong connection that the two had.
āIf I canāt stop you, Iāll go with you, but you're not going alone.ā Scott didnāt think he could stop him by force. Stiles' magic skills were rusty, but they'd proven countless times amazing feats were possible when motivated. Stiles had plenty of that. And Scott agreed they should do something. "I don't know if it's like a pack thing, but Liam was in the freaking woods and I knew we needed to do something. Derek's known when I've been in danger. Here, it's obvious,but...if you feel that he's alive. Trust that. And everyone knows how important he is down here...we'll have more people."
āYou heard Deaton. Beacon Hills. Thereās a lot we didnāt know. Maybe there was a baby-snatching thing 22 years ago, but someone covered it up. Or made your parents forget, but it doesnāt think about medical and government records. ā Beacon HIlls used to have a powerful, magical, tree. Now it had a reawakened, powerful, giant stump, a secret Argent vault under the local high school; had at least two packs, McCall and Satomi Itoās, and who knew what else? āIām just sayingā¦that if he did know the only way youāll find out why he didnāt tell you is to ask.ā He sat on his bed. āI get the impulse, though. I didnāt want to tell Allison about her mom trying to kill me. She didnāt need to know that. And our life was easier before we knew so much. ā It probably hadnāt been safer, though. āNot that Iām saying it was rightā¦It wasnāt, butā¦ā Stiles insisted this person claiming to be his brother and the kind of lying the Pariah had done to hide his identity wasnāt the same. Scott studied Stiles.āI know youāre certain, but isnāt that something we should be wary of?ā Scott knew Stiles would be honest with him if the situation was reversed. He was just tying to do the same.Stiles described a strange connection he felt with the stranger.āIāve heard way weirder.ā Scott frowned deeper at Stilesā reasoning that no one would see them.āI justā¦sure the Underground is a haven, but that doesnāt mean everyone down there is on our side.Youāre not the only one who has the ability to be up here and down there.ā
Well, heās failing two classes, heās a little socially awkward, and if you look closely his jaw line is a little uneven.
Why Can't We Be Friends?|| Nate
He didnāt need to join a club to support it.He was behind the idea, but he didnāt have the time. The amount of familiar faces was expected-- it wasnāt a large school. The number of registered college students was even smaller. Scott waved at a couple before heading to the table of food. A tall, unfamiliar person, attempted small-talk with him. He wondered if he was new transfer student or maybe just someone who lived near campus. The flyer hadn't specified students only. Scott smiled. "Yeah. It is. I'm a surprised they're starting a new group on campus, though. " The previous attempt had been during Scott's sophomore year shortly after the Alpha Beta Act 21 had been passed. It hadn't lasted long. He wished this one all the best.He wasn't opposed to helping out if they were to ask. But he probably wouldn't be able to make weekly meetings once they decided whether they'd have those. And he wished the reason he was able to make this get-together wasn't so worrying. The Adelaide had p newsrobably already spread via text and phone call and gossip across campus.
Staring down at his mostly full coffee mug, long forgotten and cold, the aging Sheriff wondered how he could have possible gotten to where he was now. Noah had never been an arrogant man, but he had once been so sure in his job. Now, however, he was stuck in the knowledge that he was completely useless to the cause. At least thatās how it felt locked up in his own home with teenage supernatural kids as his body guards. A knock at the door did nothing to stir the older man out of his reverie and it was only when he felt someone jostle the table from the other side that he looked up to see his visitor.Ā
Scott checked in with Hayden and the other officers before heading in. Sheriff Stilinski sat alone at his kitchen table. Scott set his motorcycle helmet on it. āHey. Stiles says hi. And that law professor has some ideas about your caseā¦But how are you?I could make you a new cup of coffee.ā He nodded towards the cold coffee mug.
