@thejulieteffect A low hum resounded in his throat as he worked â one hand toying with the handle on his coffee mug before he was typing once more. If one could ignore the bruising against his skin, he almost looked like nothing had happened. Observant eyes darting across his screen quickly and taking in the information that The Shadow had given him about the Pavolvâs Device â allowing himself to distance himself from the fact that that is what was almost put inside of him. Scrolling through the mess of numbers, he took a small sip of his cooling coffee â intent on just letting the female get the rest he knew she still needed. When he had gotten up, quietly as to not wake her, he had tucked the sheets around her shoulders for her modesty and tucked on a fresh pair of clothes; feeling slightly more comfortable in his own flesh as his computer glowed brightly at him and echoed against his glasses.
Her slip from sleep was slow, but the silence in the room seemed to set her nerves alight the moment she realized that there was an absence of warmth with her that hadnât been there the last time sheâd woken up naked in this bed. Eyes focusing through a haze of sleep, her joints protested as she sat up, clutching the sheets to her chest as her eyes scanned the room in a sleep-drunk panic.
It was when her eyes settled on his back that Allison sucked in an audible breath, one that may have betrayed the pain sheâd been feeling and the relief that she felt to see Stuart at his computer. He hadnât left her again.Â
