SHE WAITS, SEETHING, BLOOMING ——-
‘ nothing ever stops you leaving . ’
YOU WERE NOT BORN BIRD BONED, in a porcelain cage in a boiling home. That is not where you were intended to be. It merely took your courage to understand that the hands that handle you should be nothing less then tender. You were not meant to be a bird, you were crafted to be a storm, cold winds and falling flakes, an OMEN of dropping temperatures and the turn of seasons.
Something he knew before you did. Becoming your own person was a terrifying experience, trying to pick out your own ashes to piece something back together. Like looking back on your own funeral, you were falling snow and then withering flakes, you hardened to ice under the blistering sun, and now you are the aftermath. A WOMAN? A MOTHER? A VILLAIN? You belonged to someone else and now you belong to no one, you are your own. And it it frightening to discover who this version of yourself is supposed to be.
You did not expect to find it strong arms and a doting gaze. You were certain that the heart you held was too damaged to be desired but his hands were softer then any you had felt and his patience outweighed your worries by miles. You were never too much for him. Not even when you flinched from contact or your hands shook in the face of your actions, not when the mornings were early demands for breakfast from four little mouths or your nights were long with terrible dreams.
He was steadfast, a hand extended should you WISH to take it. And you did.
Like now, in the waning hours between midnight and the morning, your legs over his side, his arms around your waist. When your pillows were strewn with white hair and your fingers traced his temple. You were here because you wished to be, you were always in control.
You were Snowbird, as he was All for One. Figures and names by the daylight, and nothing less then fragile humans by night. Bodies intertwined in the streams of moonlight, the flutter of insecure hearts.
His voice was quiet, low and pronounced, words spoken for you alone as if the rest of the world beyond that room didn’t matter for these moments.
“ I don’t want to leave. But I know that I could. You don’t hold me here by force, I am here because I want to be. . . You feel like safety. And I think after everything, I am allowed to want to feel safe. . . ”

‘ don’t you know i’m no good for you ? ’
‘ nothing ever stops you leaving . ’
‘ i could lie , say i like it like that . ’
‘ don’t you know too much already ? ’
‘ i’ll only hurt you if you let me . ’
‘ call me friend , but keep me closer . ’
‘ nothing is better sometimes . ’
‘ let me let you go . ’
‘ i just wish you could feel what you say . ’
‘ i know you too well . ’
‘ if ‘ i love you ’ was a promise , would you break it if you’re honest ? ’
‘ i don’t wanna be you anymore . ’
‘ losing feeling is getting old . ’
‘ only you know the way that i break . ’
‘ if we were meant to be , we would’ve been by now . ’
‘ all i see is him right now . ’
‘ go ahead and watch my heart burn with the fire that you started in me , but i’ll never let you back to put it out . ’
‘ your love feels so fake . ’
‘ if i could get to sleep , i would have slept by now . ’
‘ when you call my name , do you think i’ll come running ? ’
‘ so good at giving me nothing . ’
‘ when you close your eyes , do you picture me ? ’
‘ you should see me in a crown . ’
‘ your silence is my favorite sound . ’
‘ i like the way they all scream . ’
‘ i think you’re pretty . ’
‘ i’m not your baby . ’
‘ where’s my mind ? ’
‘ what an expensive fate . ’
‘ my v is for vendetta . ’
‘ thought that i’d feel better , but now i got a bellyache . ’
‘ i wear my noose like a necklace . ’
‘ i wanna make ‘em scared . ’
‘ don’t be cautious , don’t be kind . ’
‘ i don’t belong to anyone . ’
‘ by the way , you’ve been uninvited . ’
‘ why so sad , bunny ? ’
‘ call me calloused , call me cold . ’
‘ you better love me . ’
‘ i would hate to see you go . ’
‘ i hate to be the one that told you so . ’
‘ you just crossed the line , you’ve run out of time . ’
‘ sorry , sorry , i’m sorry , sorry … sike . ’
‘ wake up and smell the coffee . ’
‘ is your cup half full or empty ? ’
‘ i love it when you’re awfully quiet . ’
‘ you don’t have to keep it quiet . ’
‘ i know it makes you nervous , but i promise you it’s worth it . ’
‘ i promise you it’s worth it to show ‘em everything you kept inside . ’
‘ too shy to say , but i hope you stay . ’
VERSE: VILLAIN ) –
In the wake of what was happening under her roof, Rei realised a few very important things. One, that this was not the life she had envisioned for herself or her children, and two, that she was powerless to stop any of it. That feeling of helplessness however was not going to stop her from protecting her children or herself. And in the shadows of her own home, she put forth a plan, years in the making, to change her future.
It’s easier to run a villainous organisation then it arguably should be when source of her agony isn’t always at home and when he is, she has developed a very robust vocabulary for lying. And as the years passed and the patience within her hardened to an icy point of silent resentment, she dedicated a part of her heart to detesting the society that would allow vile people to garner any sort of fame and silently support that deadly pursuit of success with no regard for the consequences.
When it all came to a point, she destroyed half the house in an explosion of ice and long withheld anger. A bitterness on her tongue turning a declaration of her intent to daggers. She would kill him if she had to, and she would never stand on any side of society that would cultivate an environment for people like him to flourish in. And into the night she vanished with all four of her children in tow.
She would raise her children to dismantle the world of heroism for it’s flaws. Living now as Snowbird, still soft, still gentle, but never again will she be hurt.

burningrepent:
this is one of the strangest, and oddest encounters he’s had in… probably ever. they’ve known each other for the majority of their lives and lived under the same roof for a decade; they shared a bathrooms and beds and hallways and living areas and, once upon a time, their hearts.
he looks at her and he feels both young and old at the same time.
she’s brilliant, a beacon —- and he’s fractured and rusting. he feels it as he turns with a shallow nod to the counter and places her order, the oxidized shell of his old skin, his old self, fraying away. it’s a process. sometimes he can shake it off; he can pace forward into the new daylight with a fresh heart and new mind, the past held in his fist and not at his throat, burning bright as the sun as the hero the world deserves. but other times he feels the regrowth sneaking back in, a black-tar anger pulling at his mouth and his eyes and his nostrils and blinding him from the path he seeks to follow.
he dunks his head in the water and dissolves it all away, those days.
once the tea is served to him, enji begins the process of fixing the cup, stepping aside to the smaller counter with the milk and the sugar and the cream and the honey. he reaches for one, but then stops himself. he can’t… remember how she likes it. it’s a thought that he wouldn’t have even blinked an eye at a time ago, but now, a heavy disappointment sits in his gut as he stares at the packs of sugar.
he turns and looks back at her for help, the cup held in one hand as the other silently hovers over the choices, not wanting to pick the wrong one and soil the whole thing.
❝ ah, rei, how do you—-… ❞ he trails off before his brow furrows, watching the way the sun hits the white sweep of her hair. it reminds him of a time in the winter when the rays bounced off the window just right, and illuminated her in a silver glow. there was a cup of tea on the dresser. the room smelled sweet— golden. ❝ i… it’s honey, isn’t it? ❞
ONCE UPON A TIME, you were fresh snow, and he was the shining sun. You twinkled beneath his light, your beauty brought to a glittering reality in your moments with him. You remember how warm his hands were when they curled around yours -- But winter couldn’t last forever, despite your delusions that things would never change. Soon the sun was blistering, the heat was unbearable. He scorched your snow to melting, and you spent your days wondering if he even realised you had withered.
A part of you unravels in your mind when you see him, a ghost over your shoulder, wondering why watercolor purples on the canvas of your skin and the silent plea of tears weren’t enough for him. . . When you reach for that image in your mind of unflinching posture, of scorching sun rays and the flicker of flame, you can map out every line on the scowl pinned to his features. It is enough to make fragile hands curl on your lap, the deafening blue of eyes so far from your reach.
You remember when they were robins egg, soft and yearning, the sky as morning washed over the land, the gaze of someone with big dreams. You remember when they turned overwhelming, the first grip too tight, the ignition of flames too hot to imagine, the gilded cage that surrounded you. The saturation was so frightening. . .
SEARCHING, you find them again, and for a moment you expect to see the same eyes that haunt the shell of your bones, but instead you find. . . navy. Like the sky darkens through the day you do not not recognise dusk in the tired look, the floundering of a man sinking, the isolating feeling watching a storm consume the coast. He is not a stranger, but the fear that once harrowed your guts into grime and knots instead feels. . . sad.
He looks sad too. And as a war wages behind your chest, squeezing your heart to bursting, you almost miss the question that follows, as a misery of memory wallows in his gaze.
It is a pain you didn’t expect to feel, the settle as you come to terms with the fact that he COULDN’T EVEN REMEMBER HOW YOU LIKE YOUR TEA --- You had spent almost every morning at the same table, the same cloudy white cups, the same tea. You’ve lost your skill in hiding your hurt as the years passed and you learned how to process the grieving of your own body and mind, how to replant the garden in your palms, how to feel in a healthy way. You know in that moment that the words sting your eyes and it passed through your face like a wake on the ocean. Maybe the flower was a mistake, a one off memory with no real intention, maybe your hopes were as naive as you had thought --
It’s honey, isn’t it?
Or maybe. . . you were right the first time. Relief mingles with the storm in your heart. HE REMEMBERED. Even if it took him a second, he searched, the effort in his attempt calming a worry that gnawed through your throat --- Despite the warnings from your children, the gentle advisory of your doctor, you saw what he was trying to convey in the familiar petals of a flower you once loved. And you saw it again here. Just as you were trying to better yourself, so was he.
The soft upturn of your lips follows the gentle breath between closed teeth, reaching steady hand to tuck loose strands of white behind your ear --
“ Yes, I always liked the flavor of honey more. And a little cream. Though, the cream is new preference.
I’m. . . glad. That you remembered. ”
Rei, who hasn’t sworn since her teenage years -- “ . . . fuck! ”
HRHHHG I DON'T. GO HERE. but i just wanted to say your art is so so beautiful !!! with the design of snowbird resembling a wedding gown and veil, idk if you did that on purpose, BUT IT'S GENIUS IMO you did a really really great job !!!!!
RTCYVGUHBJKN THANKS,,
Her design is somewhat inspired by a wedding ensemble but it’s not her only outfit as Snowbird. The persona of Snowbird wears her hair in a low bun with feather pins, a long floor length white dress that follows her figure, and a mask or something to cover the upper part of her face to conceal her identity. (Obviously for creative liberties I made the veil relatively see through in the drawing but normally you wouldn’t be able to see her eyes)
BUT THANK YOU ANYWAY, being a character designer comes in handy for lil things.
An unexpected partnership –
( Listen villain Rei, aka Snowbird, and AFO are a terrifying combo and they look great next to each other. And I blame @quirkthief for it. )
