I heard the fear in your voice and I got down on my knees and prayed for your bodies healing, we both agreed to this healing and hung up the phone. I spent the rest of the day quiet and thinking of you. I returned to NYC just in time for your treatments to start: there was the scary doctor visit where they told you, your cancer numbers were high, there was the surgery to put a port into your chest.... that’s where I saw you topless for the first time and I told you "nice tits" remember that? Then it was time for chemo. We always hustled for a private room during your treatments. I wondered to myself what are we doing in this place? We don’t belong here…..she’s too young for this, I’m too young for this. But there we were, right where the universe ordered us to be. I would read tarot cards for you and we'd talk about life. We would go to that awful flavorless micro biotic restaurant, because it was the only place that met your diet requirements. I cooked for you when you were too nauseated to cook for yourself. And I was there when you shaved your head (that shit was badass). I watched every moment as you walked through fire with gasoline drawlz on. You handle it with grace, strength, laughter, tears, nausea and fear. Thank you for wanting me there as you journeyed through such an intense-life-altering experience, you taught me to walk up to the things that scare me the most and to be there for my peoples when they truly need me.
