Writing on the Wall
askarandomcitizen:
The paper was folded, tucked neatly into a breast pocket for quick reference, and she nodded, optic flickering at the sight of the mask. It was an odd make, somehow familiar, and yet…not. Another blink. Ignore it hushed in her mind, shooing away the scent of ozone before it could linger further. "R-right.” A cough. She was nervous about those EMPs. Her arm going inert was the least of her concerns, the shielding on the rest of the cybernetics was not exactly the most solid. Especially her spine. Still, she reasoned, best not to focus. “You have the voice modulator in that thing?“
In turn she grabbed a series of metal plates, strapping them to her remaining human arm with practiced efficiency; a new layer of armour, just in case the metal one couldn’t move fast enough. Then, her fringe was pushed back as she scooped a helmet from the desk, sliding it on with a soft click. "Mhm, yeah. Slip in quiet, slip out loud and then quiet. We’ve got a few hours to cross town, so let’s get to it.”
He wasn’t so worried about, well. The rest of her. Her body should keep the spine insulated enough. As for her face, well he had been trying to fill in the gaps for her faceplate. It should hold up.
He grinned as he nodded. “Of course. Got to have all our gear ready.” He couldn’t help it. It was time to really leave a mark on this town. A very, veryt visual mark.

Terri blinked. Or. Winked. Honestly at this point it was hard to tell the difference, but she took the EMPs carefully, inspecting one up close with her human hand. The cybernetic fingers twitched at the thought; that shielding had been one of a few upgrades Heath had absolutely insisted on after seeing the state of her prior gear.
Several drunken rambles had been dedicated to the subject, and a decent share of sober ones, too.
The EMPs were carefully put on the back of her belt, out of reach for accidental jostling. “Yeah, i’d…rather not be unable to use this thing. Considering we know they’re going to step up their game this time around.” She moved back to the map, pulling off the part of the patchwork papers that marked their target, flipping it over to show potential points of entry.
“Which, uh, by the way, means we really need to be quiet until we’ve got a foothold. If we’re going to be interrupting the regularly scheduled broadcasts.” She held it up for him to see; one point was a low entry, with a slog upwards likely. Another involved them splitting up, her gaining access from up high, drawing attention to let him slip inside.
“You got your mask ready, speaking of?”
He couldn’t have his partner getting knocked out of commission by his own wares now, could he? Plus, with the state of her arm and the tearing it caused, there had been a lot of rambling on the subject. The very state of it was a personal insult to Heath.
Playing with his HUD, he marked the same target on his map. He grabbed his satchel and pulled out the new collapsible shield and the mask. He patted them both before sliding them back in. “And the usual gear to cover our escapes.” he grinned. This was the same but different. Hitting closer to the center of town though. And plus...
He grinned and pulled out the serape. “Even got the stage clothing ready.”

To say everything had been going to plan wasn’t strictly true.
The duo had managed to pull off some daring stunts in the prior months. The aim of the game had been similar each time; hit a broadcast centre, engage in hijack of the airwaves, push what they could on their end whilst gleaning all they could in the meantime. They’d suffered some injury, and setbacks aplenty. Their window of entry and exit had grown shorter, but their methods had refined.
Terri would often sneak in first, between the patrols and dodging the screens, neutralising what she could quietly, efficiently. When she didn’t, she would follow behind Heath’s entry, picking off those who weren’t attracted towards the noise and gunfire to keep his back covered. She would frequently rush the broadcast centre once the main threat was down, ensuring the room’s guard were out of the way and covering Heath-KILROY’s path.
KILROY. That name had begun to be whispered about the streets, much to the Loyalists’ chagrin. Someone who again and again had, in their minds, singlehandedly broken past the guards and beat back the growing ire. Terri found it highly amusing, and a fantastic cover were the worst to pass. They’d look for one when there were two. If anything did happen, that would leave one free to break out the other, or to keep to the fight.
Not that she dwelled on the worst more than she needed to.
Now, in their little base of operations, they were putting forwards their plans for the next stage. Gleaned data showed them how to take over the images as much as the airwaves, and they were already considering where next to hit. The issue at hand now was location; the outer centres had been hit, but going more central was much, much more risky.
“If we go in between the morning patrols and bunker down about this area” she began, pointing to their makeshift map (a result of many scouting missions, patched with overlaid papers to change parts corrected), “then we can hit them about four in the afternoon when they do the change of the guard in the plaza. Gives us a good five minutes of disorganisation before they can hit out harder….though…that leaves the Snipers still. Hm..”
It had started off more of a thought than a plan. A drunken suggestion, a way to get the blood pumping again. That’s the headspace Heath lived in. That’s what he was good at. Picking people up. Setting the fire. And god did this place need it.
He had learned a few more things watching Terri. How to be quieter. Move quicker. Not use as much energy with each hit. He had been self taught and while it had worked well in the past, in this city? He needed a bit of refinement.
And KILROY had given him that chance.
He got a chance to whip out his old charisma. To show this City that Wily and his forces weren’t invincible. That they didn’t have control. And if they didn’t have control, how could they keep them safe? Or be the City’s hope?
The cracks had begun, and he couldn’t help but grin.
He nodded at her plan. “Sounds good. As for the Snipers though....” he slid across the floor, the ramshackled wheels of his chair squeaking slightly. Grabbing a few cylinders, he pushed back toward Terri. “I finally have enough materials for the EMPs. And they should be strong enough to affect them even through their armor.”
He offered a few to Terri. “They shouldn’t effect the your arm with the new shielding, but you probably still would want to be out of the blast.”

So I know with Jace’s Spellbook being spoiled, making a spellbook for your OC has become a thing and I love it. I figured I would do it for Heath.
He’s definitely an artificer through and through. And I know it’s supposed to be a spellbook, but his own Power Armor is such a huge part of him I couldn’t help but put it in.
Hope you guys like it!

♦ - HOARD - something that is precious to them
The room wasn’t even that dark when you took everything under consideration. Sure there were no windows and they were underground. But there were so many electronics, from the skeletal upgrades for his own suit, the new version of Terri’s arm and an upgrade for her faceplate. And that wasn’t even getting into the lights on her tech.
So when Heath pushed himself out of bed, he could see that Terri was still fast asleep. Sliding out of the room, he went deeper into the compound.
There was only a couple of rooms. A small workshop, a closet. A place to actually clean their clothes and themselves. The room they were currently bunked in. It was a safe house, not an actual place to live. Going into the workshop, he slowly closed the door behind him.
He reached under the desk and pressed on a panel until he heard a click. Dropping to his knees, he pulled up a small tile from the floor and grabbed out a small metal box and opened it.
He was greeted by a picture of him and the Doc. Both were smiling, Break sulking in the background. Another picture, him and Break standing on a building out in the city. Another, his parents. Another, his old friends, back before the City went to hell. And another, Kat making a face as he snapped the Polaroid.
He looked through the photos for a little while before he locked them back into their hiding place, and slipped back into bed.
☢ - BIOHAZARD - the most dangerous thing about them to others
Heath is fury. He is fire. He doesn’t focus on the past, because if he does, if he allows himself to focus on that old pain, the people he lost, the mass graves he was forced to hide in, he would lose himself to despair.
So he doesn’t think or focus on the negative. He thinks about what he can do, and how he can change things. He is constantly in motion, his mind leaping from moment to moment. He is utterly unpredictable due to this, which is a huge disadvantage to his enemies, because one day he might be trying to give food to those who cannot get any for themselves, the next he’s blowing up a radio tower. And due to his gear, he can usually cause some damage.
However, he has not had an ally in years. He was alone in his old City after the Doc vanished. No one stepped forward, so he fought by himself. And this unpredictability is not good for those he fights with now. He doesn’t voice his plans much. He doesn’t give much warning. Once he sets his mind to something, he does it.
And damn the consequences. Because if this City is going to change, he can’t really be tasked with worrying about what will happen to him.
((So I got BIOHAZARD and HOARD twice. I’ll be working on one of each and if you would like to send in another prompt, I’ll do that too!))

History repeating
We’re not repeating history.
We blew up a broadcast station. No one died.
I’m going to make them feel their sins crawling on their back.
The Tempest
askarandomcitizen:
The beaming grin had already been wiped from her face by the oncoming static, but after that speech Terri wore a more grim look. A glance over to Heath, and then her eyes locked firmly to the ground.
“She’s trying to bait us with that. Typical tactics, truth be told, to put that spin on it all. To be expected on some level, right?” was said quietly, the determination persisting. A breath, and a gulp, and a burning resolute came to her remaining eye.
The optic flickered wildly.
“Considering the Loyalists are here, we should have…I should have…” Another shake. “It’s fine. Doesn’t change much. Just means we adapt, cause a bigger scene the next time, prove her wrong, right?” The ghost of a smile returned, forced, but there.
Heath cracked his knuckles. “Oh yeah. We expected this.” Just not her. “Just means that we need to make sure our next move is bigger and more calculated.” God he wanted to punch her in her stupid face.
He had hated the Huntress. She was the sum of everything that was wrong with Wily and the system. But he never knew just the extent of what she had done to Terri. What she had done to her own flesh and blood. And Heath wanted to make her pay for every transgression.
“Like I said, we just make sure we light them up.”
That was short lived
We knew they would retaliate. They always do. We were prepared for them to try and paint us the bad guy. Part of this world will believe it. Part will see through their lies.
I just wasn’t expecting her.
The Tempest
loyalisthounds:
askarandomcitizen:
Of course he’d know the knock. Dumb question, she thought to herself, supressing a shake of her head. By the time he walked in, she’d pulled off the overjacket, unbuckling the underarmour and barely pulling on a baggy, worn brown jumper overtop before Heath came bounding in.
The laugh took a weight off her shoulders she didn’t even know she carried, and a smile, a genuine, beaming bright grin returned in full to her. “I know, right?!” Escaped her loudly before she breathed, raising a hand, eye closing. Steady.
“Can’t believe they never noticed us getting access. And their alarm systems are really sloppy for broadcast stations, makes me wonder why no one else tried before…"Her tone was held back, more restrained, but still very jubilant. A quick shake of her head. “But hey, it worked great for us! I can’t believe you just managed to slip out like that-”
A burst of static interrupted her words, tearing through her audio circuitry. A wince, and a hand shot up to the cybernetics.
The Mantra had been stopped once today. It would not be stopped again. But, for now, it was dimmed down, kept as a quiet background thrumb as a new voice echoed out through the streets.
Or, perhaps new was the wrong word.
"Citizens of this fair City.” The voice spoke with weight, gravitas, and the undeniable bite of restrained violence. The intonation was of a leader, a monarch. “Today, we have all suffered an attack. One of both physical harm and on the very principles we stand upon.”
On the screens, their face bluured into vision. An older woman, blonde hair slowly turning silver, sharp green eyes boring into any onlooker’s. As though she could see them directly through those screens.
Of course, she could. She and all the others who monitored those feeds.
She took a moment to adjust a clean-pressed uniform, the dark green and gold hallmarks of Loyalist wear clear to see, W’s emblazoned on the breast and sleeves. Then, she continued, canter unbroken. “As you well know, there was a hijack of the public networks earlier this day, followed by a terrorist attack on a civilian business near the centre of the City.”
Another pause, those eyes scanning across the screen. As though she saw each and every soul’s reaction.
“An act of cowardice quickly contained and controlled thanks to our ranks. I would like to extend thanks to those who leapt into the field of combat to maintain the peace. A sentiment, I am certain, you all share.” A nod. As though she made the decision for them. Across the City, thousands nodded shortly after.
“Nethertheless, I am sure you have questions. Rest assured, we will soon have the answers. I can reveal at this time that this…KILROY…is a coward, hiding under the cover of the dark.”
The footage shifted to that captured of the fleeing Terri, the light barely catching the edge of her form. Whether or not they had modified it was debatable for some, but not for others; the small woman now cut an intimidating figure, crimson splashed against her as though she’d slaughtered her way out.
“We have obtained key information that will lead to their arrest in short, due order. In the meantime, we ask that you comply with Officers on the streets, and assist them wherever you can.”
The footage died, returning to her scrying eyes. The look of an expectant mother, a brief curl of a smile that to many would look like empathy, but in reality was much more sinister.
“Know that they are nothing more than a common criminal, one who would cause distrust amongst our own, one who would wish to spread the seed of doubt into our minds with feverish hyperbole and outdated ideology.” A scathing tone came over her words, eyes briefly closing. “But, for now, rest assured. We keep you safe. Even now, from outliers such as this fugitive, we are your hope that we can grow from this disaster and improve, strengthen our ties.”
A smile returned again, softer this time, but somehow all too…toothy.
“In the meanwhile, Sniper patrols will be increasing. As a means to ensure your safety, a temporary curfew will be instated starting from 22:00 and ending at 06:00. Any found on the streets between these hours will be asked to halt, and will be detained. Any who run will be shot.” The chin raised, hands forming a neat lattice, as though there was nothing horrific of those words. And the smile persisted.
“For now, I encourage you all to return to your homes, and only open to our force’s request. The last thing we wish is for further casualties this day.” One more nod, and she straightened back out.
“Your Huntress, fair City, is on the case. And, as you know, I have yet to return to you without the quarry. Remember. We keep you safe, we are your hope…and we very, very much have control.”
One more smile, and the feed faded back to the everpresent mantra, again thudding through the metal and concrete of the architecture of the City.
With the cameras off, Eliza let the smile fade into a sinister scowl as she rose, marching out of the broadcast room. “Get me the footage, and track their movement. I want this KILROY dead, confirmed, body in custody.” “Yes ma'am.”
Heath could hear the voice echo throughout the tunnels. With each passing word, his face darkened.
That voice.
He hadn’t heard it in what felt like years, but he recognized it all too easily. Eliza. The Huntress as she liked to fancy herself. A mad woman at the head of a mad regime. And worst of all, Terri’s mother.
Heath didn’t need to look up to know it would be affecting her. His fists clenched and he could feel his heartrate skyrocket. Rage coursed through him now more than ever.
“Well. Guess I was too subtle this time,” he said after the echoing stopped, his hands still clenched into fists. “We’ll have to make them know KILROY was here.”
