“No, no,” she laughed reaching out for the sweets he was holding out towards her, “I don’t think anyone would appreciate them quite as much as me, anyway.” She smiled wide, meeting his gaze. Another laugh left her lips and she rolled her eyes playfully. “Your life would be way less interesting without me.” She retorted. “And it’s not stress – it’s excitement.” She poked her tongue out before laughing lightly. “I could be a comedian.” She said with an afformative nod. “Maybe I overdid it.” Faye admitted, pressing her lips together momentarily. “But I couldn’t leave people in there… You wouldn’t either.”
“I don’t know, I’m sure someone would. What about your friend Lucy? She seems like a sweet kind of person?” Matt couldn’t help but laugh at the blonde as he finally handed over the sweets, partly because he feared the repercussions of what would happen if he didn’t. “Interesting isn’t the word I would use. Though I suppose I wouldn’t know what I would do with all that free time I would have.” He chose not to respond to her comment about it being excitement, knowing that they would just continue to go round in circles. “I get that Faye, but you also didn’t have to push yourself that far and put yourself at risk.”

“I just thought you should know that a girl might think you have ulterior motives if you offer something like that.” Faye replied, her lips curling into a small smirk. “Are you sure? Because I think I see a few grey hairs…” She said as se moved closer to him, a hand reaching up towards his hair as if she was inspecting. She fell back with a light laugh when he changed the subject to ask how she was. “Great. There’s nothing quite as invigorating as a little danger.” She said, a smile playing on her lips knowing the kind of reaction she would receive from him.
“Then they obviously don’t know me very well, I’ve never been one for innuendos or double meanings. I mean if that’s what you think, I’m sure I can take these sweets and go share them with someone else?” He teased smiling at the blonde and held out the sweets in her direction. “If you see any grey hairs then they are the result of being your friend and the stress you bring me.” Matt swatted her hand and playfully scowled at her as he tried to lean away and avoid her reach. “You are not at all funny. Do you realise how worried I was when I saw you lying there?”

“Netflix and chill usually involves more than just chilling, you know?” She informed them from her space on the bed with a small chuckle. The blonde wasn’t trying to imply anything, of course, her muscles still ached from over-exertion. One would hope that would show her not to push herself to her limits, but it probably wouldn’t.
“Alright, down girl.” Matt teased with a roll of his eyes, collapsing down onto the bed next to her. “I’m not ninety, I know what Netflix and chill means.” As he led there, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a packet of her favourite sweets. “How are you feeling?”

Faye could feel the warmth grow around her and it was the first time that the full force of the smoke really hit her lungs. A small cough left her mouth, not even having the energy for much more than that. She felt arms wrap around her form shortly after – he was warm, too. The blonde rested her head against his chest and closed her eyes. “I told you I’d be okay.” She said quietly with a half-smile, a cough shortly following the words.
As he held her to his chest her, he attempted to gently turn her face into his body to block her from inhaling any more smoke as he tried to drawn any additional heat into himself and disperse it to keep it away from the blonde. “You also don’t listen.” He pointed out to refrain from saying an I told you so about pushing herself too far. “I vote we never scare me like this again?”

Wading her way through the smoke, with three people following after her, she assured them that she knew which way she was going, though she was noticeably tired – which wasn’t an incredibly common occurrence before 11:30pm. She pulled her phone out of her pocket when she saw the door ahead of her. At least, she thought it was the door that Matt had been talking about. I’m at the door. Stand back – I’ll huff and puff and blow it down. Her lip curled if only slightly at her own joke. There’s four of us – and we’ll be out before you can count to three. And after waiting a few moments, knowing that they couldn’t afford to wait all that much longer, the blonde took in a deep breath and gathered all the air inside the building. “When the door goes down – run.” She told the others. The air was warm as it encircled her – far warmer than she was used to. She supposed that fire really did a number on the air particles. It didn’t stay surrounding her for long, however, and she sent it down the fiery corridor in one swift gust, the flames almost merging with the cyclone of air as it tore through the already weakened door. The moment the light from outside shined into the corridor, she heard the sound of feet running down the corridor. But, as much as she wanted to follow, just one step forward proved to the blonde just how light-headed she was and how much she might have pushed herself just a little too far. Her legs gave way under her and the next thing she felt was the hard impact of the floor hitting her shoulder.
Matt had been stood pacing outside the door of where they’d promised to meet, waiting for his phone to ping and tell him that Faye had finally text to say that she was there for him to reduce the heat and work on their plan. He was one step away from pulling out his hair in frustration but knew that he’d have to bide his time and concentrate on keeping control. As soon as he glanced at the text, he took a few steps back and held his hand up towards the door and attempted to draw the heat that was radiating from it into himself. Matt could feel the familiar itch to his skin as his power thrummed through his veins, holding it off for the blonde troublemaker to use her own power. As he watched three strangers run out, Matt could only watch in horror while her name fell from his lips as his best friend dropped to the floor in what felt like slow motion. Not caring if he risked getting stuck himself or what would happen if he entered the school, he ran straight in after her only caring about Faye’s safety. “Faye!” He slipped his arms under her as he cradled her to his chest. “C’mon, let’s get you out of here.”

Faye: That it's smoky.
Faye: Don't be silly!
Faye: Of course - I always make it out okay!
Matt: It's not silly Faye. I should be. If I was in there I could at least help! I feel completely helpless right now and I hate it.
Matt: You've not been in a situation like this before
Faye: It very well might be, but that's a different issue.
Faye: I'll try and avoid them...
Faye: I don't know. For fun? It's like a real rescue mission then.
Matt: What do you mean?
Matt: I should be in there with you.
Matt: You know what, forget i asked. Whatever you'd like Faye, just make sure you get yourself out of there okay.
Faye: The exaggerated truth.
Faye: I speak fluent sarcasm, as I am sure you know, Matty. 🙄🙄
Faye: Well, when i put it out, it's pretty small... well, nonexistent really, so i think it's a fair definition.
Faye: I'll send you a text.... maybe we should have a code word?
Matt: Faye, now's not the time.
Matt: I had to make sure that you knew. Wasn't sure whether all that smoke happened to be going to your head.
Matt: Yeah but that's just the smaller fires Faye. Don't get trying to take on the bigger ones, okay?
Matt: Why would we need a code word?
Faye: Don't exaggerate. 😂
Faye: Are you implying I don't value life???
Faye: Nothing bad will happen to me. You'll have to put up with me for a lot longer than this... It's only a little fire.
Faye: Got it. I'll head there when I can, with whoever I can. Try the latter - it should weaken it enough...
Matt: Not exaggerating. Just speaking the truth.
Matt: Now what on earth would give you that idea? Here I was thinking I'd been discrete and not at all obvious.
Matt:That was sarcasm, just in case you weren't picking that up. We also need to work on your definition of a little fire.
Matt: You got it. Let me know when you're on your way. I don't want to start it and risk it getting blocked off.
Faye: I always do like the more adventurous avenues.
Faye: You sound like my parents ;)
Faye: I don't think so. There's a lot of people trapped in here, Matty.
Faye: Let me know.
Matt: I swear you want me to have a heart attack or turn my hair grey.
Matt: I sound like a sane person! One who values life.
Matt: Ffs. Do what you have to Faye, just please stay safe. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you.
Matt: The back isn't as bad, possible exit for you. I can reduce the heat if there's anyone that can help you get it open? I could try increasing it enough to get it to split but I don't know whether it's gonna work. I haven't got enough in me to try and do both possibilities.
Faye: Oh, yeah, why didn't I think of that??
Faye: You don't get anywhere from worrying too much. 😉
Faye: Shouting, distant screaming and crying... The fire, ofc.
Faye: The front? Is it that bad? How's the back of the building?
Matt: You never do.
Matt: It keeps you safe and level headed. Something you clearly need more of.
Matt: Can they get out?
Matt: Well let's just say even I'm uncomfortable by it. I'll check it out.
Faye: When is there ever going to be a controlled fire? You worry too much.
Faye: Maybe I should find myself a suit and cape? :)
Faye: Ummm... First floor, I think. There's shouting though, from one of the rooms.
Matt: It's called a bonfire Faye. There's ways we could have tried.
Matt: I worry enough to cover the both of us because you don't worry enough!
Matt: What can you hear? I'm at the entrance but I can't get in. The doors been blocked off.
Matt: Jesus! I can feel the heat from here. Faye, stay away from the front of the building. The school entrance.
Faye: You've got to learn somehow??
Faye: Because that means leaving people injured in a burning building!
Faye: I'll be out before you know it.
Matt: Yes, you learn in a safe environment where you can stop and get help if you need to! Not where you could potentially get yourself killed!
Matt: Then alert them where they are! Don't just stand in front of a fire thinking you're some kind of superhero!
Matt: I'm outside the school. What part are you in?
Faye: Probably nothing - you're being too cautious.
Faye: I've done more reckless things than this.
Faye: There are plenty of escape routes... I'll be fine.
Matt: Probably nothing? Are you serious?
Matt: Faye, you can not be this stupid! If there are plenty of escape routes, then why aren't you all using them?!
