FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS
I felt compelled to speak about this movie not to critique it, but to contrast it with scripture.
*MINOR SPOILERS for the movie below*
The fantastic four (or F4 from now on) are a family of heroes that are comprised of Reed and Susan Richards (husband and wife duo), Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm. The F4 are explorers and heroes who protect the world from all manner of threats. Susan is pregnant with her and Reed's first child but the planet is threatened by a being named Galactus. The latter is a god-like figure who consumes planets to satiate his hunger, and the F4 are clearly outmached by him. Galactus however gives the team an ultimatum; surrender their child (Franklin), or he will consume the planet. Franklin appears to possess latent god-like powers as well (what are the odds?). The F4 refuse Galactus' offer and plan to thwart the hungry god.
* END OF SPOILERS*
How then does this contrast with the Bible? Well, in the beginning there was the Father, spirit of God and the word of God (Jesus, the son of God before He became flesh) as per the book of Genesis, and they existed in harmony. After humanity's fall God promises that a saviour will come and rescue humanity from sin, death and hell (John 3). The contrast between what happens in the movie and the bible is clear; in the movie, the family are asked sacrifice their innocent son in order to save the entire world. However according to scripture, the innocent son IS willingly sacrificed to save the entire world. A world that He loved then and loves now. A world that has turned away from Him and clings to its own sins and selfishness. The question for you is simple;
What decision have you made for Jesus?
Remember, Jesus loves you.
